It's so quiet in here. I guess it's time to move on to other ROMs as it seems to be the end of the road for this box, which is sad really. The last update (112k4) has nearly broken my device! It constantly loses signal, it's so annoying that I've almost given up using it.

Now I'm curious, which of the available ROMs do you guys suggest that best suit my needs? What I need is stability, 1080p24 video output and preferably built-in support for Xbox and PS3 controllers for retro gaming.

I also considered OpenELEC but ultimately decided to stay with Android for a number of reasons, retro gaming being one of them.

Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated

1G or 2G... As for ROMs above 110k4 on 1G goes... I'd say skip 'em!
As a 1G user I've only ever had problems with anything over 110k4 (e.g. 111k4 ~ 114k4) were all sh-- from my perspective.
Which is why I'm sticking to either 109k4, or 110k4.. Not much of a difference to be frank. Probably much like how 114k4 was an afterthought to 113k4. Which only managed to fix the poor spelling on 112k4, and in turn omitted a working Kodi release. 114k4 is such sh-- that they never even fixed the string of permissions changes (SuperSU), needed just to run it.
Worse still, if your aware of the AnTuTu Video Tester 3.0 then a number of things that used to play more or less fine under 109k4/110k4 (WebM / WMV2 / RMVB), no longer play under 11k4 ~ 114k4 In fact the Real Media Codec makes the whole test go screwy! Jumping from 0 to 300% the whole time of that "Clip" I almost thought that it would crash the Box to be honest!

So yeah I'm kinda ticked by the lack of support too...

As for 1080p @ 24Hz I'm gonna guess that this is more of an Kodi / SPMC / XBMC thing, where you might be best off trying to use SPMC... Which as luck would have it on the Play Store!

I just stumbled upon an MXIII update to kitkat-442-202k4 on G+ and I'm having trouble figuring out what it contains. I only managed to find just a youtube overview video and an s82 firmware thread but no changelog or other details, and I'm currently at work so I can't test it yet.

Does anyone else have any idea?

Its an n200 Firmware meant for both the MXIII Plus, and S82 Plus... Both of these being Amlogic S812 SoCs, and only related to the elder MXIII, and S82 IN NAME ONLY!

DO NOT EXPECT SUCH FIRMWARES TO EVER WORK ON A MXIII (1G or 2G / 16G with a S802 SoC)!!

On the other hand we finally have an Update.Zip for 114k4 which was supposedly meant to ONLY be for the "Plus" Models. However in Amlogic's / Beelink's fit of going AiO the gave this Update ZIP a K200 Fingerprint. And this Firmware is the One you're likely looking for....

As its for the k200 MXII, S82/S89 ~S802 SoCs~ It also replaces the fruity MBXLaucher, with the newer (And IMHO, the better looking LightHomeLaucnher). It however omits all the eShare stuff.
It also will change the Device Name to "S812", and the Boot Animation from the Google TV -- MBOX to the Beelink One.

But, for me its just as buggy as every firmware post 111k4 (amcodec), so I'm not using it. But, I had tested this on a 1G MXIII, and I can say that everything is there! Wi-Fi, Ethernet etc...
So the Brick risk should be minimal if you use common sense.

I wouldn't really know, I guess it should since its also a k200 Device is it not?!
When I said "Use some common sense here...", I meant that you should have Nandroid Backup in place long before hand. In the event that things turn south.
Since this Firmware has everything needed on it to work with the M82 (1G/8G MXIII), my feelings on this leed me to think that it should work on any other k200... M82 / S82 / S89 - S802 SoC Devices.

But, like I said I was unable to find any of the eShare stuff inside that *.zip File. The new Light Home Launcher is working under that ROM, and is the ONLY other Launcher besides Launcher3 in that ROM. Though you can still sideload the old MBOX Launcher if you'd like.

The only reason why I'm not actually using this instead of 109k4. Is down to the fact that Live TV (via a SAT2IPTV), stutters, and eventually cause XBMC/Kodi to freeze solid on broadcast 720p. But, this has been a problem with every Firmware (..For me!), ever since 111k4, that includes 113k4. So its safe to say that mileage may vary.

Don't think I'll be trying this yet. (if it isn't broke don't try and fix it !) from experience.

Right, one question: what firmware version are you running? i wonder if the 112k4 really has the fixes mentioned in the changelog and doesn't break any fix from the old firmwares

For me the "breakage" begun with FW 111k4, which was also the first in the current line of AiO Firmwares that we're seeing now. The "breakage" is on XBMC (or Kodi), with Live TV (Simple IPTV), I'm using a SAT2IP Tuner. And if I switch into a 720p HD Broadcast stream. I'll experience horrible audio lag... And eventually a hard lock (freeze), on my MXIII. This is also true of Firmwares 112k4, 113k4, and 114k4.
So even though I could install this, and I have! Its not of much use for me, as only 109k4 / 110k4 are the only versions that actually work well on my 1G/8G MXIII.

I am running the 112k4, so far so good no problems yet.

Doen't 112k4 have the misspelt (and, formally hidden*), "Dobly Settings"... I seem to recall that as having been One of the "Fixes" in 113k4

                              * I say "formally hidden", 'cause like the case with Widevine DRM... Which is disabled as default... For reasons best known to Oman!
The ro.platform.support.dolby=true is also missing on 109k4 ~ 111k4 (Possibly earlier?!)

In the case of the former, locate the media.amplayer.widevineenable=false Line, in your build.prop (i.e. /system/build.prop), and flip the statement from false... To true, to re-enable the Widevine DRM.
To activate the "Dobly Settings" - pre 112k4, just add the like ro.platform.support.dolby=true to your build.prop. likely as not just under the ro.platform.support.dts=true. To re-enable that.

Thank you. I'll make a backup of my setup and upgrade to 112k4 then.

So i believe noone has got the 114k4 changelog, not even from Oman? Guess i'll try to PM him asking that???
