I'm leaning toward the RK3288 platform, myself. Although these new Octa-core MTK's are very nice.
Very good news, I'm ready to place the order for the cube talk 9x (MT8392 octa-core), to replace my m6pro...

      Pipo P1

Am I the only one not liking the 4:3 aspect ratio? I got used to the M9Pro's 16:10 and from pictures 4:3 tablets just look weird to me.

What are your thoughts/experience? and what do you prefer?

Btw I am ordering the P1 for a friend so I'll get my hands on it and give you information if you need any.

4:3 is the best for browsing and reading, there are the main activities of my tablets. So 4:3 is the only format I look for.
        Furthermore, a tablet with 9.7" 4:3 has a bigger display surface than a 10.1" 16:10.

Here is a review of Pipo P1

unfortunately all is not good.. sometimes sluggish gui (that may well be only software optimisation needed) and battery time just about ~4,5 h (on a 10000-battery!!). And it also appears to becom very hot when playin demanding games. over 50 degrees C! That is hot!
Maybe a future Riley-rom can root out some of that sluggishness

Also a link about the Cube Talk9x

To review: The CUBE Talk9X has a Retina-class 9.7 inch IGZO screen, an octa-core MediaTek 8392 CPU with peak frequency of 2GHz (allegedly), 2GBs of RAM, 16GBs of internal storage, a 2MP front and 8…

In my opinion P1 is quite disappointing...
I do not want to be a beta tester for a year (and even more)....

                9v charging

the photo here shows a 9v DC charging plug. So perhaps the P1 can do 5v via USB or 9v via wall charger? Do we have confirmation that the 5v USB charging really exists?

About the GPS, he still says it takes about 3 minutes to get a fix (I'd be more interested to hear how it went after having a fix for 30 minutes, ntpsync, then how long it takes to reaquire) so likely that's still not great. On the other hand the screenshot shows a SNR of 43%, I've never seen my M9 Pro get over the high 30s.

We'll have to wait and see how much of the power drain is the chip and how much is the ROM, but it's a pretty good bet that with time Pipo will improve the voltage levels and optimizations quite a bit. So I'd hold off judgement on that for another 6 to 9 months. Early buyers get sliced by the cutting edge and all that.

Nope, the 10.1" at 16:10 screen has a surface of 45,848sqin.
                  9.7" at 4:3 is slightly smaller (45,163sqin).
                  There is no appreciable difference.

but the resolution is different...(almost 1 million of pixel more for 9.7" retina).
I know it's not matter of "surface" itself.

                      rk3288 rullezz

I am thrilled to see the device in my hand, I am toying with different rk3188 for a year now, some android, some linux, and I am eagerly waiting for the new iteration !

Devices (pipo p1 and cs918ii) shall be delivered within 2 weeks, I'll post my findings.

Unfortunately a troll infested this thread - can we have a technical discussion somewhere else ?

                      good luck to everybody !

                        Which troll?

I've some doubt about the "rulezz" of rk3288...
You can begin giving us some technical info, because "rulez" is not technical at all

Finally a good result for rk3288. it is comparable to pipo m6pro with a video playback

I still have some concern relevant to real life duration: chinese tablets generally are good on video playback, but for browsing battery duration is a lot less....

In my opinion the most important lack of pipo p1 are:
                            - lack of IGZO display, with less weight and less power requirements than standard retina display
                            - still big dimension and heavy tablet
                            - sold with unacceptable instability issues

The most beautiful thing of pipo p1 is the lightning fast boot time! Really impressing.

1 - on previous page of this thread, user chanverlao wrote:

But the official ROM of P1 is very bad like most ROMs of PIPO other tablet's devices, especially at multitasking.

                                2 - here:
                                http://mikecanex.wordpress.com/2014/06/27/pipo-p1-first-review/ the reviewer wrote:
Some unresponsiveness to touch and stuttering with multitasking.
… but reports zooming to full-screen can sometimes stutter (perhaps just with large games?).

3 - and in the end of the article the worst (for me):

Fever aspects are not too good, after playing the game for half an hour thetemperature reached nearly 50 degrees, focused on the back of the upper right side in landscape situations, but also around nearly forty degrees, will feel some hot.

                                and : "Battery life sucks"

I will go for another tablet (cube talk 9x) not as potentially powerful as Pipo but: stable (except chrome browser, but I never used it on tablets) better slimmer bezel, IGZO display and with an "ethernal" battery AND a 21Mbit with 3G in download (never seen on a chinese tablet!!!).
Probably P1 will come to a good stability with next rom releases, but I'm going to buy a tablet now and I don't want to struggle with problems for MONTHS as it was with my Pipo m6pro.

And what about deep sleep with Pipo P1 3G? Is it working "out of the box"?
