So, I am not able to try this update.zip file.....
as you wrote, it isn't an update.zip, it's a zip which contains the "boot.img" and also the AndroidTool2.3 (to flash via OTG), so you need an update.zip which Finless will build (for you)...

To get r89 to connect try it the other way around:
      - Connect the OTG cable to computer and R89
      - Press the Button in the AV connector
      - Plug in the PSU

Make sure to have the drivers updated.
Thanks, tried that method also, still AndroidTool did not see my box....

I previously flashed a RK3188 based tablet with my PC (Windows 7 64 bit) and found that the same drivers worked on the RK3288 without having to use the switch in the AV connector.

Suggest that you power the TV Box and then plug the OTG it into the PC so that the PC driver could be initialized. Make sure that you have the box setup as per oman's instruction. Play around with the SWITCH button on the Tool. I cannot remember the exact sequence that worked but I eventually got the Tool and the box to talk to each other.

wow when I started your test video, it was loud.
Dolby digital surround sound from my receiver via HDMI. VICTORY is yours.

I tested your test video with built-in video players and they all played with Dolby digital surround. I tried the latest Kodi nightly and all I got was static. I tried with SPMC and it had audio, but not surround sound. Will reboot, retest with SPMC (version of XBMC) then create logs and email them to you.

I have sound with the test video and XBMC when I select HDMI Bitstream! The rest of Android is silent, though

With "default", I get the android touch sounds, but no Sound in the test video. Gonna test some more and report back.

                          Wohooo!

(And a thanks to Bob for the update.zip)

Every sound clip i tested locally and from Nas (stock videoplayer and XBMC, Youtube) is working after update. Indication on AVR when DD is used, no DTS indication.

                            Thanks Oman and Bob!

You are saying that you get Dolby Digital when playing a video from XBMC? If so, what version of XBMC are you using? I get Dolby Digital from all the local players when playing from internal sources or from my NAS, but can not get Dolby Digital when playing inside XBMC. I tried the latest version of SPMC and the latest nightly Kodi 14 beta 3.
