Well wifi worked without installing gapps. The hard buttons were hit or miss. The power and home button worked fine. The back button pulls up the menu, while the menu does nothing.

But it might have to do with how I installed the cyanbook zip.

I booted into recovery, did a wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache partition, wipe dalvik cache and wipe battery stats. Then install zip from sd card.
This is how I always flash ROMs, and I continued it with the tablet.

Hmm..I wiped AFTER I installed, not before (although I ran the WIPEROM.zip file)....I may have to try again when I have more time to play.

Going to play with it a bit to see what else is good to go

        Thanks William

I should have been more specific. Wifi was working. Portable hotspot was what I was having trouble with.

Yeah portable hotspot isn't working for me either.

Oh and I guess this thread on androidtablets says that you have to be running Gingerbread for this RomKit to work.

I am thinking I may just throw in the towel. I do appreciate all your help drywall420 and elektrik...

Finally gave in and emailed William. Thanks BTW bud! He gave me some instructions and was trying to direct me to a recovery img, but I could not get to it, so instead, I followed his instructions and used the CWM 6.0.1.2_a10 copy that I had. I am now into Recovery of CWM 6.0.1.2 and it is all thanks to his help. Here are the instructions...(rewritten and more in-depth)

******First of all, you must have adb...You will typically find this in C:\Program Files\Android\android-sdk\platform-tools\

Copy the recovery.img and install-recovery.sh (I included reboot-recovery.sh for adb purposes that may not be necessary to these steps, so it is up to you to include it) to sdcard (on 701i 10, this is your internal, not extsd)

Bring up your command-line in windows or terminal if Linux.

            Code:
            cd C:\WHEREVER\YOURADB\ISLOCATED
            adb root
            adb shell
            cd \sdcard
            sh install-recovery.sh
If done correctly it will say:

            Code:
            sh install-recovery.sh
            done
At this point you can manually enter recovery, but if you copied that reboot-recovery.sh file over DON'T close your command-line yet, right from where we left off type this:

            Code:
            sh reboot-recovery.sh
In theory, it should reboot into recovery mode...

So, this was fun and a new learning experience for me, but I am not in CWM 6.0.1.2, my back button functions as Up, Home is Down, Power is Select, and Menu is Back...hooray...onto flashing a custom ROM now! Woot!
One thing I'm confused about-you mention install-recovery.sh but don't mention where you got it from. I don't see that file in *any* of the images (unless you already had a copy or found it from somewhere..? Maybe I'm looking in all the wrong places, as the song goes!)

Finally got my hard buttons working properly.
              I edited system/ usr/ keylayout/sun4i-keyboard.kl
Changed menu button to 114 and the back button to 115

Sent from my Polaroid 701c tablet running Cm10

How silly of me, I have added a link to the post.
