2nd Alternative

OK, here's the bootup screen from what looks like Option 2. Yes, it's the RikoMagic rom, and it looks sweet and feels fast.



The Tronsmart remote doesn't work with this one, but that should be an easy fix by substituting the relevant config file from stock. (My Logitech 400r keyboard works fine, as does my Minix A1 remote).

So we are starting to see some interesting choices... I will check out the RikoMagic tonight!

Could someone running stock please copy and post me one file? Now that I'm on the RikoMagic rom, I can't easily obtain the stock remote config file.

Some debugs from three different 1080p test videos running in XBMC (TVMC). No drops, minor or no frame skips, playback smooth.

Initial verdict:

IMHO, either one of the two new roms is a better deal than Tronsmart stock. I've seen enough of both to believe that. The CXa99 is a user-friendly install, with Phoenix card. It works out-of-the box, with the usual DPI change and other tweaks. The RKM rom looks sweet and runs fast: but a) it has to be flashed via Phoenix Suite; b) the good-looking and functional launcher goes ka-blooey at 240 dpi. If you leave things at 160, it all works but video playback in XBMC and MX Player is not quite as smooth. Drop the launcher, change the dpi to 240 and the RKM seems to have an edge. But c) the Tronsmart launcher doesn't work. I haven't yet swapped in the stock remote config (life goes on....) but think this will be the fix.

Update: after sleeping for a bit, the RKM rom doesn't wake up with the remote power button.

Nice to have choices. One more new rom to test. TWRP is your friend in these swaps.

NOTE: Some roms - notably the RKM - from Pan Baidu have Chinese lettering in the rom's label. This prevents Phoenix Suite from recognizing them as "flashable". Delete that lettering, and it all works.

Yes, the new roms have a fluid ease not present before. Some optimization has been going on. Libstagefright was off for those shots.

BINGO! Tronsmart remote works perfectly on RKM rom now - including Power OFF/ON.

Hi all, I tested, 2 ROM on Dracometa.


- With RKM-A80-4.4-6335-20141205 :

video 720p in USB, there were artifacts, during playback, I stopped testing for this ROM.

- With sunchip-CX-A99-A80-6335 :

there is +/-, the same result as the ROM "draco_aw80_finless_rom_1_0".

The big problem Dracometa, is (video playback + DTS 5.1), in stereo, playback video, is perfect.

Tronsmart must resolve the problem, with a new firmware.

But the best solution will be from stop porting ROM, phone / tablet, in the box tv android.

hope, that there will be a ROM (Android TV) for dracometa.

hi all,

i ve tested with sunchip-CX-A99-A80-6335

watched from network.

the video playback a little bit smoother than stock firmware in kodi, but the biggest problem in 1080p playback with dts and dd still there, no dropping and skipping but in every 5 sec there is a pause in the video playback. i understand that is certainly a software problem.
same movie in mxplayer, smooth and perfect with dts.

h265 2160p 30 frame on 1080p tv, video playback is way better then stock rom in kodi, still stutter.- mx player perfect
h265 2160p 60 frame on 1080p tv not watchable in kodi and mx player.

h265 2160p 30 and 60 frame in tvmc, crash.

h265 1080p xmen first class, in kodi unwatchable, mxplayer not smooth but its watchable.

youtube app in kodi plays max 720p very smooth.

We can all agree: Tronsmart has scope to produce the best rom yet. Indeed, we're counting on it. But for now and for me, the CX a99 rom is my daily.

PS: think both these roms have the same "wake-up" issue after sleeping a few minutes. Stock rom does this too sometimes.

From this crop, CX offers the best base. As you can see from feedback, issues (including wake from sleep) remain with both, but CX is still better material than stock. Whether you want to work on it - or wait for Tronsmart's second offering - is your call, Maestro.

Note: There's been another release of a CX rom on Pan Baidu today ..(December 6). I'm trying it now.
