The best solution is to revert back to one your language works with. There's very little difference between the ROM's, anyway.

Has this occurred with previous versions of my ROM? 1.7? 1.6?

It started with the original shipped Rom oance succeeded to get factory restore and then until flashed your ROM 1.8 nothing could be done.... As switched from Eglish to other language "Power OFF" - "Power ON " UI goes down. Never tryed 1.6 , 1.7 .... Please links for download and try. Thanks a lot, Michael.

BUT (I'm Dutch so I'm not happy unless I can complain about something) it came with this cover: http://www.banggood.com/Ultra-thin-T...-p-949825.html and the smartcover function is driving me crazy (even more than I already was). The P9 turns on when I close the lid (but never when I open it) and when I flip it to the back the slightest movement makes the P9 turn on or off. Is there a (hidden) setting somewhere to turn the smartcover function off or do I have to physically mutilate the cover by cutting out the magnets (DIE STUPID COVER! DIE!)?

You might try adjusting the numbers in /etc/asound.conf.

There are 3 or so files all with same sets of options in them, so I was wondering if there is a specific file needed to do the job, and perhaps the three in the etc folder are generic ones or for other optional chipsets... as all 3 files look to be essentially the same options, perhaps refered to by alternate audio drivers?

You might run a dmesg log and see if the driver is listed. That may narrow things down.

Here we go again with multiple versions. We went through this with the M9 Max and the M8 Pro. Don't expect the new firmware to work on the already released versions until we do some testing....otherwise there could be a rash of bricking a perfectly good tablet.
