OLD - Minix Neo X5 Finless Custom ROM 1.2b

Hi, I am new to this (using x5 and 1.2b) ..... and trying to get the xbox controller(wired) to work. I thought it was plug and play but i don't get any response in the 'compatible' games (controller is blinking).
I can't find xpad.ko in my system files....

+1 for this question. my controller also doesn't work. or i'm trying wrong games?


EDIT: today i reinstalled 1.2b, did some nasty changes myself, and all crashed down! :-D.

so, after all, works well, as always, but i have one question for Bob.
is it possible to change cursor to old/standard arrow after installation or it is impossible w/o changing flash file and reflashing?

I flashed version 1.2b 720 noairpin , so i want to use 1608mhz freq on my X5 device , with original kernel cpu goes only to 1500 , despite in all programs says 1608 , but this state is never used even when choose performance governor it stays on 1500 , so I think with this kernel and rom i can use 1608 freq , but its the same like original 011 minix kernel no unlocked freqs , is there any setting that must change to unlock this freq and can use it with Finless 1.2b rom ?

p.s: tryed antutu cpu master and setcpu and they both goes max 1500mhz when set on 1608 , also is it possible to tweak interactive governor , or ondemand , cause now they are pretty conservative in my opinion... 10x in advance for your answers/time )

UPDATE 4/6/2013!

OK so it was shown to me the Joy Center APP was not working.
Stock ROM was missing USB Host permissions and thus my ROM was too.
This is now fixed.

And YES libstagefright patch is in 1.2b

This is now called 1.2b download. If you have 1.2 or 1.2a you should download 1.2b and reflash. However to not erase your APPs and stuff, just flash system.img and you should be fine.

Hi all.... I am back again with my latest Neo X5 ROM. This one is based off the latest Minix X5 ROM just released March 27.

Commentary:

So you know and I still want to comment on this. I have MANY TV sticks! My Neo X5 is my "go to box" when I want to use a Android TV device for ME. I just love the thing. Does it over perform all the rest? Well yes and no, yes because the ONLY REASON is not hardware. It's the ROM's they make! QUALITY! The RK3066 can only be tweaked so much so don't expect some kind of HUGE overall performance over other RK3066 devices. But you want stability and all the goodies that JUST WORK??? This is the unit right now in my opinion.

Oh... special thanks to Minix for being the diamond in the rough when it comes to Rockchip TV player ROMs coming out of China! I know the Dev house you are using Minix. It all over in comments in the code. Much the same house as many other TV stick players! But you must be:
1) Giving them MUCH clearer requirements for what you want!
2) Paying more!
3) Listening to customers!

Props!

I cant wait to see your new RK3188 devices... And, I am not blowing snow up your (you know what). I am very serious about what I say and I don't hold back my words!

So what's in my new ROM? Well here is a bit from the README.

BUT BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING with my ROM kit... READ THE README for all details and instructions! ESPECIALLY for this ROM as you now have ROM flash choices to make!
I also give a lot more tips and instructions in my README than in this post. JUST READ IT PLEASE

Features in this 1.2 ROM and notes:

PAY ATTENTION PLEASE! You have some choices to make!
Everything in my older 1.0 ROM is here but I added some features for you all.

1) I enabled the lock screen. I did not do this in my 1.0 ROM but I had actually made the code change
and just did not include it in my 1.0 ROM. It is now included and you have full control of it in settings!
Why Minix left the menu choice in settings yet did not enable it, is a BUG in my opinion.
MANY people say they want this to keep their kids from using the device without parental guidance.
MINIX.... If you read this DO NOT REMOVE IT! Just make it work next time. I hate making decompiled .smali code changes

2) Airpin. I am not a Airpin/Airplay person but it is in this ROM.
Props to Minix for adding it for those that want it. However for those that do not, sorry... PAIN and performance hit! If your NOT into Airplay, etc then removing this does help performance based on WHAT YOU NEED your X5 to do.

HOWEVER, I give you the option to not have it pre-installed or running as a service.
NOTE: I have NOT pulled out the APK or changed how Minix implemented the pre-install!!!!!
Thus I am not changing any copyright agreement or distribution change. It works the same!

BUT to use my ON/OFF capability you must follow the instructions when flashing the ROM!
I have given you several boot.img files to choose from. What you choose will decide if Airpin gets installed or not!
See below under flashing instructions!


3) How about a TRUE 1080 kernel? Well I give you that now too!
YES it is the EXACT SAME kernel as provided with this minix release and all I have done is patched it to 1080 resolution! NOTHING ELSE... It's just a 1080 enabled kernel.
So please do not think I have sources etc. So PLEASE don't ask for other kernel changes!
I also want you to understand that even though I give you a TRUE 1080 kernel, do not expect the same performance. The hardware now was to draw a LOT more pixels and thus Antutu or other benchmarks will show a lower score. So this is a option for you to try. Depending on what you use your device for, you may love it, or hate it!

Commentary:
There is a reason NONE of these TV players based on RK3066 do not support 1080 fully by the kernel!
The hardware really cannot handle it without extreme over clocking and thus USER MODIFIED cooling of the processor. So, for those that want to mod their devices and add a heatsink with fan, etc and overclock to the max... The 1080 kernel may just float your boat

OK so on with the stuff I add to all my ROMs like the 1.0 ROM.

1) Gameloft fix. This fixes Gameloft games from crashing to the desktop.
Many of them do not run and crash to the desktop. This is due to a license check based on the device.
Special thanks to Christian Troy for inventing this fix. I modded it for this ROM.

2) Rockchip released a updated libstagefright.so to try and fix HW decoding issues in XBMC.
I have added this.

3) Build.prop edit to open up the Google Play store to APPs that normally say "not compatible".
I am spoofing a Samsung device that will show almost any APP as compatible.
Your device will show up in google play as NOT a Minix device! Understand this please.
I also left the original buiild.prop in the ROM called build.orig.
If you want to go back, just use ES or a root file explorer and rename build.prop to build.old
Then rename build.orig to build.prop.
Go into settings, apps, all and go into the Google Play app. Clear the cache and data.
Reboot! You should be back to showing up as a Minis Nexo X5.

4) System is now real EXT4.

5) Full init.d support! If you do not know what that is... ignore it. For geeks that want to use it. It is there!

6) I added Xbox360 keylayout to fix some games and camera spin with xbox 360 controller. Per this post here:

7) I debloated the ROM for CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN.
This includes removing some of the live wallpapers, china apps, etc.
I also removed some basic Google Apps like Chrome etc. Here is why.
As system APPs when they get updated it leaves the old APP in system and puts the update in /data
That leaves JUNK around forever. So why have Google Apps as system APPs when you can install them
and update them all the time? Makes no sense. So I cleaned this stuff out too.
Here is what was removed and all of these can be installed from Google Play or side loaded:
Chrome.apk
Gmail
PinyinIME.apk
Galaxy4.apk
HoloSpiralWallpaper.apk
MagicSmokeWallpapers.apk
PhaseBeam.apk
VideoEditor.apk
tuzi.apk
In my ROM kit is a APP folder. Feel free to copy whatever you want back into /system/app if you want them back!

8) Two boot.img and kernel.img setups. One set to support 720P boot and another for 1080P boot.
See instructions below under flashing to use them. This flash kit is setup by default to use 720P WITH NO Airpin installed!
If you want 1080P or 1080 with Airpin again see the instructions below.
NOTE: The boot animation on 1080P kernel will not be full screen. This is normal!
I don't want to make 2 large system.img files to support both resolutions.

9) All APPs in /system have been updated including Play Store and Framework.
So on first boot and login to Google Play, Nothing should need to be updated.

10) I added a reboot APP that will allow optional reboot options like reboot to bootloader (flash mode), CWM, etc.
HOWEVER... in this ROM Minix added in Setting>developer options>Fastboot.
This does the same thing as the reboot APP "reboot to bootloader". It basically puts you into ROM flash mode!
I just feel the reboot APP I added is faster and works. Also the minix basic "reboot" they added DOES NOT WORK FOR ME!
This reboot APP I added does. If you don't want the Reboot APP I added, just remove it from /system/app

11) Of course this is fully rooted and Superuser. I also updated Busybox to a version I prefer.
This is to support init.d
You can however update busybox to the latest and greatest from Google Play if you wish.

12) Remote Control using RK Remote APP is now fully supported!
In the ROM kit is a RKRemoteControl.apk.
You install this on your phone or tablet and now it can remotely control your TV player!
Just put the APK on sdcard or something and install it on your Android phone, tablet, etc.

downloaded, verified download, rebooted and TRIED to install. About 15% through, it said untrusted zip and cwm screen popped up top and asked 'install untrusted zip?' Of course I hit yes.. why isn't it trusted? Its straight from the carrier. Anyway it immediately said installation aborted. I repeated this process again and got the same results. I only flashed this rom because of overclock and buyed antutu cpu master. And still overclocking does not work, maximum is 1512Mhz. I will be very thankfull if bob can reveal way to overclock at least 1700Mhz. I have installed cooler for RK3066 circuit and if I broke device with my overclocking thats my problem.

I got my second neo x5 and i was pleasantly surprised it came with a new improved remote!!!
the old remote was really bad.

so i immediately flashed it with my favorite rom 12b , but the remote dont work anymore

My bet is the new X5 came with a updated ROM. My 1.2b was made from an older ROM which probably does not support that remote. Try flashing the stock ROM back and see if it works again. Chances are I will need to make a updated ROM.

I have had the same problem. Indeed when I flash back to the stock rom the remote works again. So Bob if you can find some time.....
