    De-bloating my 1.4 ROMs for all tablets I have done so far!

    OK I am getting requests and also have played with my own ROMs for the Arnova 10G2. Some apps HAVE TO GO! They are BS, run in the background even when you do not want them to, are BAD bad bad at handling memory, etc....

    Speaking only for the Arnova, things like Gallery, Calibration (left over from resistive screens), crappy mail app, and others just HAVE to go! Doing this myself, I have increased boot time and running performance by removing these apps no one really wants because there are better ones in the Market.

    The Reason for offering this in a ROM:
    Now something I must state after doing some testing. It is IN FACT better to not have these in the ROM to begin with! Why do I say that? Because even though you are root and can remove them, NAND memory is not a hard disk! You cannot really defrag it. Even if you could and get a defrag program, they are not made for handling NAND memory and could make things worse! NAND works on block boundries and if a file is just a less than 4096, it leaves a hole. leaves a unused block, or leaves blocks with lots of unused areas! So best way is to start CLEAN and not delete stuff leaving you with a defragmented setup! It is in fact better to build a system without the crap! I will do that for you all next.


    So with that said, if you want what I may call Finless 1.4.5 ROM, make your requests here on what you want removed for my next ROM release for your Tab!!!!

    I will do this myself for the Arnova 10G2 since that is what I have, but since I cannot see whats in other tabs I make ROM's for, it's up to you all to tell me!

        FYI I will tell you 2 right now that will make your life better for the Arnova.

        Delete Awizard and wizard.odex. That right there is BS left over from resistive screen!
        Then delete tscalibration and the odex as well.

        You do NOT need this wizard or tscalibration for capacitive models!

        Now hit the reset and watch how much faster it boots with no calibration screens and annoying force close BS!

          De-Clutter Phone Related Apps

          Bob For me it is about removing anything relating to what Gingerbread is really designed to run on A mobile phone, although Gingerbread adding some support for tablets all the other crap is just left in when a tablet producer makes a firmware.

          So remove anything that related to what the tablet cannot do. ie drivers for bluetooth tab with no bluetooth, I think you know what I am saying Bob

          I personally love bare bone systems, and that is why I hate the firmware on my Sony Android phone,
          Damn Facebook etc. You cant remove it unless you root your phone(which I dont want to do because of imminent ICS upgrade).

            If we keep the 1.4 screens the same I can easily add a .5 at the end

              Yes maybe... but lets see what users say. All I will say is having a clean boot ROM is better than just deleting stuff and leaving your system fragmented.

              But yea... I maybe asking you to do new boot screens

              What should I call it? 1.4.5 or 1.4d (d=debloated)?

                  Personally, if the \system partition is writable, I would prefer to have the choice to delete/uninstall after flashing. Since, by and large the users can't add and remove apps from the image file the way you can from a zipped ROM, I would prefer not to have to build everything back into the unit.

                  Plus, I have seen occasional gotchas from removing apps that appear to do one thing, but also have additional functionality. For instance, deleting the wretched HTC Sense 1.0 email app from a Droid Incredible breaks activesync and thus Exchange. functionality. So, yes, the AOSP email app sucks, but I want it in the ROM.

                  I would like a boot splaahscreen that is a lot cleaner and doesn't look so much like a billboard. You can put your credits in the build.prop. I don't need to see it all over my screen. It does make sense to pull BT and HDMI-out support out because the hardware doesn't support it, but otherwise I would like to see a "complete" ROM.

                    No offense to you Harold but do some studies on NAND memory... One of the things I did in 1.3 ROM that Kasty has still not done, is blocking. Spend some time and learn.... Again no offense to you but honestly... Your not getting the point of having a clean setup with no fragmentation vs user choice and fragmenting NAND thus loosing performance! It's better to start out unfragmented and "add" than start out and remove and have NAND fragmentation!

                    Sorry thats the way it is going to be. Daman does nice screens IMHO. The team here deserves the credit. What you may call a billboard others like! YOU CANNOT PLEASE ALL THE PEOPLE! However, if you learn to take a ROM apart, you can remove any of that. Until then I am sorry to say, don't bitch about a ROM that gives you what it does and ask for things that really does not matter! I mean come on? If that is your only complaint..... Figure it out and remove it if it is that important to you!

                    Sorry Harold, I am not trying to be mean to you but your post does not repond to what I am asking..... Well at least what I was expecting to ask or get answers from.

                      It's your ROM. I get that. I'm just a flashaholic who practices law in between ROMs.

                      If I can figure out how to unpack and repack a boot image file, or find the time to learn how how to do that, I will do my own splash screens and animation, if possible.

                      Meanwhile, nobody does it better on the Arnova 10 G2 than you right now.

                        So back to the topic at hand folks..... Again let me know what you want removed to make a better ROM next go around! Trust me... the boot screen is not going to make any improvement

                          How can we do that?

                          Is there a way to make a rom with just needed apps, and give some extra apps in a folder?
                          If the user wants he can install them.
                          Like you proceed with original apps and media files of Arnova?

                            Get a file browser that has root.
                            Go into /system/app
                            Delete the following
                            Awizard.apk
                            wizard.odex
                            tscalibration.apk
                            tscalibration.odex

                            Then do a reboot.

                            Trust me this are annoying. You do a reset using the rest hole and every time this pops up for calibration. 1/2 the time if fails and you have to force close.

                              There is no risk to delete this files?

                              PS: if you wantto make some tests about your rom, I'm ok
