Disregard that last one. If you are willing to try to flash it, please go for it. Its a brick as is now, so only way to go is up.

So no hope then. Well that just sucks!! Send it on back, and I'll break the news to my bud. Hopefully www.dx.com will make the situation right, but i have my doubts.

thanks for giving it a go Finless.

Spawn12336, I can solder a cable to the missing OTG port and flash a ROM.
However I do not want to do that unless you give me the OK.

I can remove the cable after I am done.

Another idea is maybe my local electronics store has micro board mount USB ports. I can try to solder one on there permanently.

You OK with me trying that?

    I got the stick!

    This is a FAKE MK809.

If you look at this website the board does not match.

Also I analyzed this board and it is IMPOSSIBLE to flash it via USB.

    Why you ask?

Because they did not put the OTG port on the board and this is the ONLY place there are data lines.
The rear USB port has data but they did not put the resisters on it to support a data connection.

    See this pictures.

I have to believe since they put on the reset switch that it is flashable by USB. Otherwise why spend the money to add the switch? So I have a feeling the rear USB port is the OTG as well.

But I guess I will find out when he ships it to me

I have seen on your picture the soldering spots are there for the otg port.
Why not try to solder a USB connection cable there?

    OTG port missing

I have an MK809ii from **** and the pcb has the same numbers as yours and neomode.
My MK809ii has the mediatech wifi/bt chips as does yours.
The big difference is your tv stick has an unpopulated spot where both neomode's and my board have a usb otg connection.
This is the connection that I have to use when flashing a new rom to the stick and may be the reason why you are having trouble.
You could try using CWM recovery to flash your stick or solder a usb port where yours is missing.
Or maby Finless can get the stick to flash from another port..

    Best of luck.

If you want to send me that stick I bet I can unbrick it. Put $5 in the box for return shipping.

Sadly, I've done all that. I think the time has come to give up on this stick. I have 2 MK809II on the way. Most likely to donate one to my buddy in payment for this one.

It only boots to the dead android if I press the reset switch and power it up. If I just power it, I get the 2 penguins... forever.

Oooops..... I hope you did not fry your chips shorting the wrong pins!

If it still boots to the dead android guy you might be OK.
