I tried a few firmwares that always got to 25% installed, then the (!) droid popped up. I tried for a few days to get my computer to recognize the stick via usb so I could flash it, but it never gets detected. I was finally able to get finless 1.4 on there via the sdcard, only to see that the wifi and bluetooth no longer work (yeah, bluetooth worked before, which already leads me to think this wasn't a MK809).

Now, I've opened the case and I find the stick in the attached images. There is a momentary switch on the side, which I assume is the recovery mode switch as if I reboot the stick while holding that, instead of the in4dealz splash screen, I get the 2 penguins, then the droid install animation immediately followed by the (!) droid.

I've tried shorting pins 6&7 to get it to flash recovery, and on the odd attempt I get nothing but a black screen which I assume is correct from what I've read, but still the computer never recognizes it on the USB. No bing, no bong, no changes in Device Manage, nothing.

So I need to suss out exactly what stick this is and get the firmware on there to start from square one again. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

I have a clone MK809II. I need to flash the firmware because the dongle don't boot.
The otg port is not present.

Can you have a idea for flash the dongle.

    Thanks

My otg port on the PBC.

    Same problem

    Hello Finless

You definitly rule for helping Spawn.

Can you please tell with pins did you shorten??
i have the same clone but with the usb OTG port present, but i havent been able to put it in flash mode to restore it.

You want to know why i want to restore it, its weird, both usb ports are not working, i have RC11 airmouse that stopped working, and i kept using the stick with an app in my smartphone through wifi, but by mistake i turned off the wifi so i can not access the stick no more, but it boots correctly when i plugg it to the tv and power, but i have no way to use the stick.

    Can you please help me??
    tnx ..

I just soldered data wires to the pads and I am now flashing the stock ROM from the MK809 web site.

I do not think I have good enough equipment to solder on a micro USB port. But what I will do is leave 2 data wires soldered on so if ever you need to unbrick you can connect to those wires with a cut off USB cord. You will also need the regular USB cord to power the unit.

Now to see if the ROM will work on this or not! But it is unbricked now.

    Thanks Neomode,
I appreciate it, I will try to sell it first, but PM your address and price, just in case. How do we warn other buyers if not blaming DX? I still think they should not sell fakes. They should check their products like I did when I was selling. And not lie about performance. Got my Tronsmart MK908 yesterday from Geek and installed finless 1.4. Works fine, but found it needs more power than my TV can supply from USB.

    Bad Pads

    Hi Neomode,
Thank you for your kind offer. I don't think you can fix it. But look at picture. I am afraid I ruined the pads with my old eyes and solder. See photo. And it IS working! I still think that DX.com is to blame as I cannot find any way to complain (Email or working site) about dx.com (Dealextreme) false product. Maybe U have an address?

I don't think it's the website exactly that is the issue. I have ordered lots of things from them in the past and this was the first issue I have ever had. They deal through various suppliers, so it is the suppliers that are the issue. That being said, I received my 2 MK809II's today in the mail, and flashed them immediately with Finless 1.7a, both are working perfectly.

My wish now is that the XBMC dev's get hardware acceleration fixed and supported so my movies/tv on my NAS aren't choppy and unwatchable. Until then, it's MediaHouse Pro for me.

    Thanks again Bob.

Thanks Bob. Great offer. I do not think you should take care of all our problems and it might be too expensive to mail to/from Denmark. I will try sell it in Denmark. At least it can be used for Netflix and other APPS. Or maybe, in September, I will use your nice offer when I am in San Antonio, TX. Then I can send NO monopoly money, but real $. Please Email your address just in case. How do we warn other people about this product??
