Id like to see a picture, The original Tronsmart packaging only has 2 small references to "Tronsmart" which are added stickers to the packaging nothing else, Its not on the stick. If you peeled the 2 off it would be generic, It maybe that the manufacturer is another company all together.

Hmm... I'm not sure if I have the real thing or a fake, but mine doesn't say Tronsmart anywhere. Again, I bought mine from Taobao in China. Maybe they don't sell it under the Tronsmart name within China? Anyway, it came with 4.2.2 out of the box, and Finless ROM 1.5 is working fine on it now (except for no tun.ko module for vpn).

I have yet to see any RK product do a OTA update!
However I can tell you that Tronsmart did change the OTA update URL in their ROMs from the default rockchip address..
As far as other sticks getting the update or not, this is easily modified.

Build.prop has this:

ro.product.ota.host=www.netxeon.net:2300

This is the tronsmart OTA location. However if you have a clone and add this to build.prop and allow the OTA update, you could brick if the ROM is not for your device...

Anyway tronsmart has not pushed any OTA update yet.

I can not seem to get your rom to flash.
I just got my mk908 it came today with the default 4.2 rom (ordered from geekbuying)

after much trial an error:

- I was able to get the original 4.2 tronsmart rom to flash back to the device....
- I was able to get your finless 1.4 to flash.

both of those worked, but i continue to recieve the error with 1.5 (i even tried to use the .bin from 1.4 finless, and the rest of the img from 1.5 - but that was a no go)

Tried also downloading and extracting 1.5 two times (still both failed...)

Thanks Bob again for some rock solid info, I agree I wouldn't advice adding it to a non legit unit, Although id rather remove it altogether from a Tronsmart unit until they produce a worthy ROM!!!

Attempting an OTA update when using a different ROM! That can only spell "issues" at best.

FNC, I think your having USB communication issues. Try a different cable and a different USB port on your PC.

ll try another port... Ive tried with 2 cables already... 1.4 worked just fine though (using those cables and port)

4 cables and 2 ports later.. I got it to load... i had to tell it to load it about 4 or 5 times, it errored each time, then finally started loaded... thank you!

I just wish xbmc was a little more mature on android... o well... maybe someday.

so any luck bob with the rk3188 stutter fix? is it because these things are outputting at 50hz? is that where the hdmi timing issue is coming from? are there full android sources yet as well as kernel?

Full android sources has always been available, yes?

Kernel source is out, but some drivers are not completely open source if I'm not mistaken.

i was a partner with amlogic for a hot minute. they had a seperate set of sources from the AOSP that was customized with all their hooks for stagefright and binary blobs,whatnot. I assume rockchip has the same and has sources for their stuff. or like you said, at least closed binary blobs to be added to aosp sources. has anyone ever gotten rockchip's actual android sources? like for the proprietary stuff?

Custom splash screen request

Hey bob great work. Could you make a 720p custom splash screen for me? I think you did it for another person on another thread, it was the google tv logo and it just read "google tv powered by finless" I wanted a crisp simple splash screen that still credits you.
