First observations. Post initial OTA.
-Brutal! ....Storage is not unified.
-Kodi is packed full of the no-nos and naughtyos. Box could use a clean slate. Need to clean some bloat and do clean install of Kodi or derivative.
-As mentioned, the box has root. Though it will take someone like Finless to confirm it is correctly rooted. Any hints on how to confirm such a thing?
-I get random crashes when I attempt to open ES Explorer, if a card is in the slot or USB storage is attached. When this happens, display reads "boot", but it is not booting, goes back to normal after crash. -Un-mounting the card or USB storage gets ES to run. ES has the black background issue, can't see text unless the file/folder is selected.
-Latest F/W shows user debug/test keys. Kernal version is 3.10.0
-CPU-Z and Kodi show screen resolution@1280x720 and 160 dpi. Neither Kodi nor CPU-Z can get a temp reading.
-Dolby Digital in Kodi has the audio dropouts. Seemed OK in the others.
-You may notice from the OP board pics, only 2 screws secure the PCB, and neither is on the port sides, so if you are a frequent plug/un-plug type, you will want to use caution.
-Case has 4 screws hiding beneath the rubber feet, remove them and run a thumbnail along the seams to separate case.
-Box has no flow thru ventilation, board is mounted inverted, so I'll be modding this one.


As stated in the OP, potential exists here, but some firmware refinement will be required to realize it.
Comes with a learning remote, so that's kind of cool. 2GB seems to be there. There is no mic, ..like I care. Did not want one myself.
Would I buy it again? Probably. More time will tell.

For the price it's fair, like the majority of these cheap and not so cheery box's
Early days, as there is not to many RK3229 to pull kernels and other creative stuff.
