I read somewhere the the RK3229 has an extremely cheap integrated audio implementation. Audio dropouts are commonly seen when running Kodi on the platform, which I hadn't realized before I bought mine.

Try ZDMC or one of the other Kodi variants. I was getting dropouts in the installed Kodi playing files with DTS. Seem to play fine on the others.
I do not get reboots when streaming over WiFi, but cannot get through a single run when on Eth.
I wIll try scooter2014's effort when I get back to the R-Box. Messing with another device at the moment.

Would someone please run AIDA64 on their box(es) and tell me what comes up under the "Display" tab? My two boxes indicate a resolution of 1280 x 720(?)
When I use the UI and go to "Settings...Display", I get a page of resolutions with the best one being 1920 x 1080 (which I have selected, cuz that's my TV's resolution). The little manual that came with the box shows a much longer list with higher selections that don't appear with my boxes. Plus, KODI and all the diagnostic apps I've run indicate a resolution of 1280 x 720
I've asked the Seller about this, and the reply was, "..the type of home tv has a big influence on the tv box...". Anybody wanna comment on this, and/or offer any explanation?

You will find the display 1280 x 720 = 720p and is upscaled to 1080,
Firmware due to limitations the I don't fully understand yet is set at 720, other may care to add to this.
The type of TV can reflect what resolution the output can be set
older tv's can have issues with these newer boxes.

Apparently ZDMC and possibly SBMC have or can have the audio patches applied, so I can take a look a that.

roustabout The version of ZDMC I have used is for the Zidoo RK3368 box. So your assertion may be correct.

Hello All,
newbie here. Just recieved the r-box 3229. the box crashes everytime I use kodi with or without ethernet. I am so glad that I found this website. I've been looking all around freaktab and not finding what I need. I found a firmware update and want to update via SD card.
These are my steps:
1) Downloaded the firmware update for SD card (look at link)
2) unzipped it
3) copy and pasted the files on a new SD card
4) Pressed reset and pwr button at the same time
5) got a screen that loaded a few options (look at pic),
Here are my questions:
A) which one to pick?
B) am I on the right screen?
C) did I load the firmware on the SD card correctly, if no, what file should be on the card?
I clicked on that wireless update app and it said download/update available, but couldn't figure out what to click to make it work.
Thanks in advance for any advice that will get this box going..

Unfortunately, none of the above. To apply the update from SD card on most android devices, you need to leave it zipped and called "update.zip"
If the device is able, it ought to read the SD card at start time and apply the update by itself or offer to apply it in that menu. When I needed to apply the update, I tried that a few times without luck and ultimately needed to use the PC tools to reflash.
My own fault, though, as I'd been trying to get Xposed to install and the system was left able to boot android, sort of, but in an incomplete state once it was there - most of the UI was not visible and the mouse wasn't working.
Once I understood that even though I could not see the device in device manager, I could see it when it was connected in the flashing tool, I was good to go.
I'm not sure what an intact device with an sdcard with the file "update.zip" available should do, but none of the choices in the photo will do what you need.

Spyhunter, just as Roustabout said, just copy that "zip" file to a SD card (do not unzip it), and insert the card into your box. When I updated my box a couple of times using that method, with my box powered up, I just inserted the SD card and the box saw it within a minute or two and asked me if I wanted to upgrade it.
After you update it, you box will reboot and then ask you if you want to delete that zip file, say yes and delete it.MK818B, T428, ATV 1220, CS918S, TV01, S89H, R89, ADT-1, MK808B Plus, MINIX X8-H Plus, Tronsmart Orion R68

Another OTA update, Kodi fixes and other bits they mention, these update will only apply if your unit is Stock, only a 20mb update,
R-box still reset's using ethernet to stream Kodi and Netflix Ok on Wifi. (STILL)
In saying that 3 updates in a fairly short period of time does show product support for a $30 media player.
Cheers

Confession time...
I'm embarrassed by an oversight I'm about to share with the group, but I'm glad I didn't send my two boxes back immediately: my myriad problems appear to have been caused by a network problem in my house I hadn't detected. With the network now working properly, the boxes now stream beautifully. KODI and browser are now as responsive as my Tronsmart Vega S95 Telos and Ugoos UT3S (4/32). I'm running KODI 16.1 (a clean install after deleting the Ver that came with the boxes). I've since watched many hours of KODI video with no hiccups (NO crashes or freezes using wifi). Haven't tried them using ethernet after the OTA updates (I'm current after the update dated June 18) but I plan to do so and I'll report in. I'm still puzzled why my boxes still indicate 1280 x 720p in KODI and all the diagnostic a I've run, when EVERY OTHER box I've tested (12ish) shows 1920 x 1080 in Settings and all apps. But frankly, at THIS point I don't care because "The proof of the pudding is in the eating" (and the picture is great!!!). The audio seems better too - I'm not getting that "flutter" I usually hear.
Point is, I'm KEEPING them. (DAMN! I might even deign to write a positive review on Amazon!)
