Thanks RISCy for the excellent write up for installing an external antenna.
Also wanted to make a complement for this box. Out of all my Android boxes, this is the only one that will play my BlueRay rip with VC1 encoding, decent, if not perfectly. Now, if they will fix the rebooting problem, they may have a winner. Rockchip has a very bad habit of dropping support before all the bugs are fixed, example, lack of GOOD hardware drivers.

prahjister Thanks for the tip, I will try it later.

scooter2014 Agreed ref. the Eth issue. Box works pretty good otherwise. Of course, there is always room for improvement.

Good to see your opinion of this box is evolving somewhat. I know you were very disappointed OBE. The thing I found pleasantly surprising compared to some other budget boxes, was the lack of drops and skips.
I have not seen other 3229 device users report the reboot issue, so it would seem more of an R-Box issue than RK's. But I know what you mean generally.

Where do I get this box's firmware from?
            kind regards

Hello cyber7, You can get it here.
It should be noted, this driver assistant version is required to flash via PC.
              SD update also available.

Hi RISCy Dude and thank you for the reply!

Can i quickly pick your brain?
                * I saw mention that there is a 4.4.4 release available. Is this true?
                * Have you sorted out your reboot problem?
                * Did you try other RK3229 Firmware on this device (I.E.: Ugoos/NexBOX...)

Cheers and I am still waiting for my delivery (I am from the most southern tip in Africa... Cape Town to be exact )
                kind regards

Hello cyber7, Yes, you can pick my brain at any speed, but those might be some slim pickings for you.

1.) I have not seen 4.4.4 for this box, 5.1.1 is current state. User Prahjister might know more about this.
2.) Not yet, as stated, reboots only happen when streaming from Kodi over Eth.***
3.) Not yet. User Scooter2014 has cooked up a hybrid F/W for it that offers unified storage, though as yet untested, as far as I know. He is awaiting arrival of his R-Box too. I will try to give it a run tomorrow.
So does being at the Southern-most tip result in long or short delivery times?
I hope both you and Scooter2014 get your boxes soon. We can use all the critical eyes we can get on this box.
                  Cheers.
*** Other users have observed reboots from other streaming apps when on Eth.

Yep. It is still called Snail-Mail im my country for a reason
I can't wait to pull this thing apart. After all my work on the NexBOX Z68, which initially was a total dudd (and was semi-sorted after I gave the developers a bit of hell), I ended up with a machine that never fails. Others tried to improve my build, but just stuffed it up with devices not working and more...
*** Regarding the reboots: Has anyone from GeekBuyer ever made any attempt to answer why this happens? Is this only on ETH?
--- Is this not (as far as I can recall) the same problem as what happened in Android 4.2.2 where a different MAC address was assigned to the device on every reboot?
--- I know there is also another problem where a wired connection keeps going up and down in a specific environment...

                      (EDIT)
Just a last thing. Is there not some kind of bloat-ware installed on this that is causing interruptions/disruptions in the tcp/network packets? (This is why I can't wait to get my hands on mine!)
                      kind regards

Box #1 did the recent firmware updates OTA and is now up-to-date running 20160618. Yes, xxxxxx18 not xxxxxx17 (see image). Anybody know where I can download a copy of update.zip containing the x18 firmware? I'm asking because I "updated" Box #2 via the SDcard method using the firmware from Geekbuying, and now it appears "stuck" there (won't update to x18 via OTA).
Maybe I should have left well-enough alone...

JW_Tech Try clearing the Wireless update apps cache, I had to do this after the OTA failed. Also, if on Eth make sure the WirelessUpdate app's settings does not have "WiFi only selected", it is by default.
If the factory Kodi is uninstalled the OTA will fail from recovery. It may not have been caused by the factory Kodi being removed, not sure, reinstalling update " 17" seemed to make the OTA "18" take.

When the OTA failed to run from recovery, it said the OTA.zip was good, but upon examining the system, recovery displayed the following...

cyber7 MAC seems stable. Have shutdown an rebooted about 10 times, about 5 of those removed power for 1 minute. Also switched back and forth from WiFi to Eth, MAC has remained the same.
I am almost as anxious for you and scooter2014 to get your boxes as you guys are. I don't own the i68, but have casually observed your efforts on that box and believe you will be an asset for this box as well.
In the meantime, I would be happy to capture some logs around the time of the reboots, if you guys think it would be helpful. I am using CatLog at the moment, if you guys have a preference, I will use it.
