Pipo M8 Pro 4.2.2 RileyROM 1.7 with SDK 2.0

Now that I have an M8Pro to test, I've discovered some things with the 1.6 version that wasn't quite up to my own standards. I didn't quite care much for the Chinese Superuser.apk app that Pipo had in the system...I just left it in because I was curious about how it worked. Also, I left one or two Chinese apps in on the debloat process. So I decided to put together a new version based on the same firmware, but to make a few changes.

Also, I have learned how to implement VPN support...so I added this to the ROM.

So, I decided to create this ROM, using the same base firmware I used for the 1.6 version.

This new ROM has all the usual RileyROM features:

Rooted with Open Source Superuser.apk (created by Koush...the same guy who created original CWM Recovery)
Debloated
2,4,6,8,10 or 12gb user app space
Init.d Support
Busybox Support
Working CWM Recovery by Fun
Boot Graphics by Tattman65
Reboot App by Petrus
Flash Tool by 900SuperSport
VPN support by adding tun.ko driver

On the wifi version I added newtorklocation.apk which was missing in the factory firmware. I took it from the 3G version for the M8 Pro.

This ROM is now complete for both Wifi Only and 3G versions.

I have noticed problems with RileyROM 1.6a with SDK 2.0 what about 1.7 ?

this my first post (excuse me for my bad english, i'm french from reunion island)
i want to thank you for very good job to make our pipo m8pro tablet perfect
since sdk2.0 firmware i have really seen good improvements and very good reactivity, tablets is really better but i have 2 problems since rileyrom 1.6a
1. display setting "has stopped" appears when french language is set. i can't go in display settings when french is selected. in english it works. Strange isn't it ?
2. sd card not automount at boot. in settings storage fonction to mount is not available. i must to remove and put again sd card for it works good. After it is good but at each boot i must do this.

Has anyone have these problems too ?
Do you thing these problems are present in RileyROM 1.7 with SDK 2.0 ?

Thanks to help me to resolve theses problems and after i will be very happy to have a good tablet with good and perfect firmware.

sd card problrm

hi i just like to inform you that i have same problem every time i restart my tablet it not recognized my sd card
and fonction to mount is not available did it solve in 1.7 version?

I'm working today. I will play around with my tablet and see if I can fix that. I haven't noticed that problem.

I have this ROM currently flashed on my M8Pro Wifi version and it works perfectly. I haven't encountered any problems with SD mounting, or anything.

Yes, I feel it is OK to flash.

How do we use the CWM based menu? Is there a manual?

And if I flash the rom next time, how do I first backup my data before I flash the rom without loosing the apps annd other settings?

Just go to this site to learn how to use CWM:

You can backup using CWM, or you can use Titanium Backup (which I prefer). Just make sure you are backing up to your external SD card, because the internal memory is erased each time you flash a new ROM.

Finally Pipo M8 Pro 4.2.2 RileyROM 1.7 with SDK 2.0 work like a charm for me

I'm happy to say after flashing (16a to 1.7) my tablet works very good.

Display setting when french language is selected = no problem
SD is mounted correctly at each boot

All is perfect at this time

I go to use more this new update and if i have a problem i will post it here.

just a question: there are, basically, three versions of FW - only wifi, wifi+3g and this one, for both models.

No no no - there are only 2 versions. One for WiFi-only tablets, and one for 3G tablets. The reference of "now complete for both wifi and 3g" - is that one of them came much later than the other one, and there were files missing in Pipo's official ROM release (that has now been corrected in the RileyROM version).

If you go to the Download page linked to in the first post here - you'll see there are only 2 ROMs for download.

PLEASE! Download and read the First Time User Guide (link) before doing anything more than downloading the ROM. It will guide you through the steps, an explain most relevant questions you might have. If its not covered within there - we'll be right here

EDIT: If you have a wifi+3G tablet, and do not intend to use the 3G function - you can flash the wifi-only ROM if you want. Besides the 3g-support, they are basicly the same - and without the 3g module enabled, the tablet will use a little less battery. But be warned: If you want to use the 3G function later, you will have to reflash (using a 3G ROM).

SD card mounting

I may be a bit confused. The new ROM is loaded ...1.7.

In settings; storage I am seeing 'Mount SD card' listed under 'Nand flash'.

If this is the internal SD card, why is it asking me to mount it?

I would think it is mounted ...or the tab would not work?? Am I right in this?

I already have the ex SD card mounted ...it shows OK...even though I am having trouble getting Documents to Go to 'see' it.

Any and all help appreciated.
