    Pipo M9 Max 4.2.2 RileyROM 1.8 [Feedback]

I may be able to get to that tonight.

I'm a Captain in a fire station, and have time at night to work on ROMs...as long as there aren't any emergencies. I'll just need to download the ROM and use my laptop to make the changes. I just have the original work files at home...not on my laptop.

I'm pretty sure I can just open the system.img and boot.img files from the ROM to make the fixes.

Darn it, Randy! Fire Station Captain AND Android expert?! You make me feel dumber by the minute... Anyhoo, wish you a quiet tour of duty tonight.

Can anyone give feedback on netflix ? Is it ok or are we still referred to the xposed workaround?

Yup, i know that. The problem is the other parameter files are in txt format. I just copied the parameter file in your previous rom. Almost a day of testing no problems so far.

So you tried renaming the txt file and it didn't work? Something must have changed in my text editor. I'll have to check. It has always worked...in fact, the other ones were edited the exact same way.

Btw. I just uploaded the fix for the boot screens. Just download again.

Hence my need to get feedback from someone who has experienced such issues in the past.
Also, I believe there should be a boot animation. Have you figured that one out?
Mine still flickers with this rom, but so have all the roms I have tried, mines a 3g version 2

This one has much better hardware decoding, it can now play my 1080p mp4 rips flawlessly, rendering Web Pages is much quicker too, I do a lot of ****ing and with this rom it now loads pages with 200 search results instantly,I needed to reset the tablet once when it froze rotating the tablet from landscape to portrait mode, but it seems to have been a one off, and aside from the flickering issue at low brightness this rom is excellent, with a solid improvement in performance, with no increase in battery consumption that I've noticed either .

That's sad news indeed. I was really hoping that the flickering would disappear. Why does it happen to only some unlucky few? Hardware instead of kernel issue, maybe?
Did it flicker in stock ROM?

Randy, thanks for the boot animation fix, man.

Thank you for your work and some questions

                      Hello,

first let me thank you for your work with the PiPO M9 tablet. I haven't flashed your custom firmware yet, but I'm very glad to see that the community is working for this piece of hardware. I used to have a GalaxyTab and followed the CM 10.1 custom roms for a while - now the wife inherited that thing and I bought the PiPO tablet mainly for reading magazines and stuff while commuting to and from the job.
But I'm always glad when I can play around with updates and patches and what not - work and two children isn't time consuming enough

Enough with the chit-chat, let's talk business. I have a few questions, and I didn't find the answers in the other threads (or I don't remember; getting old...)

                      1. Flashing a PiPO Tablet ROM IMG from PiPo or from Randy will always reset the whole tablet and erase network settings, apps, sd-card (can be removed - I know that)...?
If this is true, what do you recommend to restore the old settings? I tried Titanium Backup and other tools, but never felt to comfortable with it.

                      2. I'm on the latest July stock rom right now and bought the tablet with the May stock rom. I have had and still have problems with the WLAN. Sometimes it takes forever to discover the WLAN networks, sometimes it disconnects and I have to turn WLAN on and off to make it work again. Also the reception is not very good, but that maybe a hardware thing. Does anybody else experience the same problems?

                      3. The May stock rom (don't know the exact date now, I can look it up at home and add it later) had some issues with Google Chrome, sometimes it freezes for some seconds and the whole browser becomes very unresponsive. Has anybody else witnessed this? As far as I can tell from playing some minutes with the new July Stock rom, it seems to be better - but further testing is needed.

                      4. As I have read you corrected the boot animation problem and I can download the RileyROM 1.8 and flash it with the provided flashtool. The RileyROM contains a CWM, but this cannot be used to flash additional updates right now. But the CWM works normal and one can do backups with it and erase the cache partition, dalvik cache etc.?

                      (5. maybe OT) I would like to know how you are seeing the chances that this tablet or this hardware platform (RK3188) is picked up for big custom rom projects like Cyanogen or Slim Bean? Is it a matter of compiling the kernels of this projects for the RK3188 or what has to be done to enable such development?

Thank you very much in advance for some answers and I'm looking forward to flash the new RileyROM 1.8 update sometime this weekend.

                      Have a nice weekend!
                      Vibsi

OH yes. Hardware decoding working much beter. I tried it on 720p mkv in MX Player with H/W+ enabled and now it's very good. What video player you are using?

Thanks for pointing that out, tested, much better as you said & HW+ working for the first time for me

Unfortunately, standby on idle seems to drain a bit more power than previous versions...

Randy, the good news is I've flashed the latest ROM, wiped the data cache/dalvik cache and the screen flickering if brightness is set low seems to be gone!!
The bad news is there is still no boot animation after the badge. Either the fix didn't work or I downloaded the old 1.8 version. Then gain, I downloaded it like four hours ago and it was the only one available.
I'm just so thrilled that the flickering is gone that I'll just try to get used to the boot screen issue...

Thanks for the update...I don't know what's going on with those boot screens.

Everybody...if you want to, you can use a root explorer and go to system/media and delete the bootanimation.zip. Then you will just get the generic Android boot logo.

                                Hi Randy,

First, let me thank you for this ROM, great job and it seems you've days longer than 24h

I just installed it and I have a question regarding the app space choice. Your changelog specify "2,4,6,8,10 or 12gb user app space choices" but I don't know when/where I can put my choice....maybe I missed something.

Another interesting thing is, at the end of the installation, the tablet reboot directly into recovery mode to CWM...is this normal? (I tried 2 flash just to be sure that I did not make any errors).

                                Thanks for your inputs
