Shut downs and what may cause them.

I got my X7 a few weeks ago. Put in a 32g sd card and a Mele F10-Pro. 'Have used several roms, but settled on Bob's 720 with 4gb. For video, I have several players: Dice, Mobo, VPlayer, & BSPlayer - picked these because some of my videos have subtitles. Shutdowns have never occurred randomly. I am usually "doing something" - using a program or changing settings - and when using the "wrong" player for a video. Depending on the video format (avi-mkv-mpg, etc.), I've wirelessly streamed videos sized up to 5GB with no stuttering or shutdowns (using 5ghz band and a Netgear R6250 router). My usual "go to" player is Dice Player, but no one player does everything well. Very glad that Finless is doing some roms - think they are great, and quite satisfied with the Minix X7 - just my 2cents of input.

its proberbly gonna be a 'fix' for the minix x7 crappy playback problems, such a promising device and it had the SAME problem as all other rockshit devices.

If it wasn't for finless and lewy these rockchip devices would be mediocre, i would never pay $100 for one when things like the K-R42 etc are as good if not better.

Not sure what all the fuss was about minix x7

No 4.3 right now.... too much stuff to work on there.

Video playback (frame skipping) will be fixed. In fact it is and I have tested that already.

pjanderson will provide unlocked kernels for overclocking.
Stuff like that. Not that major but good stuff for sure!

I just gave pj my 1.6 ROM to test with his kernels. I will be gone for the next 5 days so this gives him time to test and make the kernels.

Bottom line it will be late next week but so far things are looking pretty decent.

But I have had some lockups usually if I try to do too much shortly after a reboot. If I wait about 30 seconds after boot for the system to calm down, I have not seen any hangs.

This is mostly based off of 005 release but not 100%.

that's great! I've noticed that your ROM works good with overclocked T428 kernels but there are some bugs. It's nice to konw that there's someone working with overclocked kernels for the x7 cuz I've read that the x7 works really good when is overclocked. thanks for your and pjanderson's work!

Using Finless 1.5 my shutdowns are all but gone AFTER initial setup. I find that when all setup is complete, this means doing all backup and restore tasks, turning off auto updates and notifications for apps that my box never shutsdown any more but I rarely reboot, use sleep instead (but I often come back to my box and it's woken itself up, very random). I've also stopped using external SD for storage but I think I may have a defective reader.

If I try to do things too fast after a reboot, I get hangs. e.g. the mouse hangs and the system is locked. Sometimes waiting it will then reboot. Probably a watch dog timer.

However if after a boot I wait about 30 seconds or so before doing anything, I don't seem to have problems.
If LOTS of apps are loaded that use notifications, then the 30 second wait gets longer.

Bottom line it seems you have to wait until the system settles down. The X7 seems to take longer to boot and initialize than any other 3188 device I have.

i agree with waiting for it to boot up, thats the only time ive had hang ups is trying to do everything as soon as it boots, which always results in a complete system freeze.
