    Very cool

    Just got a chance to test some video on the MK908 II for the first time tonight. The video is super smooth. I'd say as smooth as or possibly smoother than the X7. Ive just tested mkv and m2t files on the stock 720 kernel. Very solid and stable so far. Nice work tronsmart. I'll have a video review in the next few days with lots of video samples.

    I'm stoked,
    Rivers

      These are the reasons i hate the fact that people rave on about the 'latest' minix x7 etc etc. although it has potential people shouldnt buy it in droves as it STILL has playback issues.

      The price difference in this device and the x7 is almost HALF!!.

      Also the raspberry PI (different topic) only £35, blows the minix and others out of the water in terms of playback!

      i think they have more works to do before they sell these devices, without finless & lewy and others these devices are way below par!

        This freakin ROM rocks in my opinion! In fact once done I plan to see how it works on the X7 as I think it has that ROM beat right now.

        Bob
        Finless, do you think this ROM will work with the original MK908? Or can you adapt it to make it work?

          Guys did you try to play with value in system/etc/performance_info.xml
          Adding maybe line
          <app package="xbmc"=mode"3"/>
          or
          <app package="video"=mode"3"/>
          or
          <app package="movies"=mode"3"/>
          or
          <app package="adainair"=mode"3"/>
          This looks like possibilities for hardware OC

            Pretty sure that stuff only effects XBMC and since your rooted it's not hard to add.
            I am not a XBMC guy myself... I can barley keep up with other stuff let alone XBMC.

              I tried to google for info about the performance_info.xml file but the only relevant bit I found was the following:
              The number in xml means what the frequency of CPU should be use with this apk. "4" is full speed.

                If you check performance_info.xml you will see lines with bench, benchmark etc all with mode 4 then we can OC wat we want just use name of app and put 4 because browser, clock and other useless are set to 0 .
                Enough to you can undertand.
                Good luck.

                  I understand all this. I was actually looking for info about the following topics:
                  • If an app is not listed in this file, is "4" the default (i.e. is this file actually used for throttling the cpu with certain apps which don't need processing power)
                  • If the kernel supports e.g. the following speeds: 1200/1608/1800/1920 and I have set the max CPU speed to 1608 with e.g. no-frills CPU control, what effect does value "4" have

                    If the kernel is locked then these wont go above the locked limit even if they are set to be higher.

                      AnTuTu and other bench tools testing all your HW this means and GPU also default clock for Mali 400 in our sticks is 50 ( i am read in one init file) then i am thinks we need to force HW into OC without any trouble.
                      Guys this is mobile or tablet OS then this OS is optimized for battery devices then you can understand why are their underclocked, also this worth for resolution and video procesing configuration files.
                      I suggest you check Media_profiles.xml ( system/etc) if you want's better video procesing, mod this file, i can play 16Mbps mkv video now, before this mod no way or eror's like "Sorry can't play this video" after couple of seconds with Rockchip player other players i do not use for now.
                      :-)
                      Adios amigos

                        OC'd custom kernels usually put a higher bottom limit to GPU frequencies. The kernel I'm using (my own build) has the following speeds available for GPU: 400/600/800MHz.

                          working on porting this to the mk908 V3 now using the V3 stock-kernel should be just some copy and paste and a few changes to the loader and it should be good
                          Edit: done boots up testing in the morning
                          Edit2: their is a newer version of the loader Available 1.24 I recommend using it as it seems a bit less flaky ill post it when I test this latest hackjob

                            ill be blunt bob quit forcing everybody to use Downscale 720p BY default the changes you make in the build prop severally break the scaling to the point where depending on the display you may not even be-able to see to change it back Video.use.overlay= and the default Display density should be left where they are else its near impossible to get it to scale correctly because of the output mode mismatch

Tronsmart just released an updated ROM for the MK908 (I don't know if it supports V3) and I bet you a million it has these tweaks in it! So stay tuned. I will be doing a ROM for that. But please.... don't ask me about what to buy. I don't like answering that question!

                                Finless, you mentioned a new ROM for the original MK908 but I can't find it. The lastest one I see is from August 10. Has it not been posted yet?? I'm on the Tronsmart MK908 updates page.
