Pipo M6 4.2.2 RileyROM 1.8 [MAX not PRO]

This ROM is based on the Pipo firmware test release dated 9/13/2013.

This is for the original Pipo Max M6 tablet...not for the M6 Pro...these ROM's are not interchangeable, so be certain of which model you have before flashing.

Also, there is only one version for either 3G or WIFI models. It works for both.

Full Root with SuperSU
Debloat
Google Play Store fixes, to all for more compatible apps
Reduced System.img file size with ext4 file system
2, 4, 6 or 8gb user app space parameter files
Your choice of stock recovery or CWM (Stock Recovery is the default)
Multi-user support (I finally got this to work correctly) You will see a new option called Users in settings.
Some Internet/Wifi tweaks to improve speed and streaming
Some video performance adjustments
A few general performance enhancements
The Petrus Reboot app
Disabled OTA updates
Boot animation from Tattman65
tun.ko, cifs.ko installed

UPDATE: v1.8a is now available. This version is based on the same firmware as the 1.8. The difference is that after testing many of the tweaks in 1.8, I've made a few changes. Some reported the VPN drivers I added weren't working...so I added ones that work. Plus, I expanded the size of the file system to allow users to change things without getting errors. v1.8 works, but v1.8a is just a better ROM.

I've just ordered a brand new m6 and hope to have it by end of the week. ive downloaded this ROM and read the instructions etc to set drivers first, then flash the rom.

i was a bit confused in the read me doc where it says all that stuff about CWM back up etc. i dont know what it is! do i need to do all that? can i delete that and just use whatever your stock one is?

will this ROM root my tablet automatically or do i need to root it before flashing it with this rom?

does this rom still allow you to go between standard HD set up and retina HD set up ?

i'm kind of looking forward to trying this out! all the firmware flashes i've previously done have been onto an sd card, power on and done!

how come there are so many chinese version firmware updates and few english? is it purely because they are a chinese company?

just one stupid question, i forgot the tool for flashing the tablet
everything on my computer is deleted and when i just tried to look it up in the first roms the files werenot available anymore.

The flash tool is included within the zip file you download. Just unzip the ROM kit to your desktop and go to the root folder of the kit. The ROM files are in a folder called RileyROM.

Unless the FTP server is down...every ROM I've ever done is always available to download from the links in all of the threads.

No, i believe multi window will be slow in m6 because of the retina screen. I don't see it coming to this tablet.

Multi-user not working

Hi, and thanks for this release.

It is the first custom ROM I'm installing on this M6 Max 3G, hoping it will improve the occasional freezing.

So far, so good, I just cannot create new users: the initial profile setup process enter into a loop.

I read somewhere that it might be necessary to manually create the new user files in /system/data/users by copying the User /0, so I might try that. I'll compare how it is on my other tab (Visture v97HD, same as Cube U9GTV) where it works.

Anybody had success with this new feature?

Do you still have the box it came in? That's the first place to look. The M series stands for MAX, so the word MAX shows up even though you or might not might not have a Pro version (I know...kind of confusing).

Otherwise, a peek at the About section in settings may provide some clues. If my memory serves...I think the M6 Pro ROM will show as such in the listing.

The main difference is the inclusion of GPS in the M6 Pro...so look for an app with GPS functions/testing within the firmware...then see if it works... There are also come components (wifi, screen, bluetooth) that are different enough to require a different firmware.

If you flash one of my custom ROM's, and you have trouble with the touch screen, or bluetooth, or wifi...then chances are you need to flash the other ROM (don't worry, it isn't bricked...you just need the correct ROM).

I don't know of any external markings depicting one or the other (I don't actually have an M6).

Couldn't figure it out -.-
The box it came it says Max-M6 (it is the 3G model).
In the settings>about it tells me Model Number M6.

I have your Rom in version 1.5 on it i think.
Any further ideas?

If my 1.5 ROM is running fine...then you have the original M6.

If you had tried flashing this ROM on the M6 Pro, some things just wouldn't work.

Flashed 1.8 today and so far I'm very happy with it, its nice and smooth ( let's say smoother :-). ) I dont use HD mode of course its still laggy :-( which is shame this tablet does have some nice hardware all we need is aproporiate software to ''make it happened''.

P.S. i did try to change build.props for tablet UI but was not able to save it even though file has row permission its said /system/ dosent had enough space . any ideas why?

I'm not sure why...there should be plenty of room in the system...that's kind of strange...especially since what you are replacing is the same size as what's already there.

You might need to copy the build.prop somewhere else to edit...then try to copy it back.

hi riley i think i was bootlooped or bricked when trying to combine 1.8 rom with 1.6 kernel i tried the given example on the notepad for failed flash but still flashtoll did not detect the unit. any help can be much appreciated.

I'm not sure why...there should be plenty of room in the system...that's kind of strange...especially since what you are replacing is the same size as what's already there.

You might need to copy the build.prop somewhere else to edit...then try to copy it back.

I have the same issue with system partition - in root explorer I see 0kb free space but with df I managed to see 5mb I freed to avoid issues.
It doesn't seem to be a permissions issue as I can write to system and change things...
tried to remount with "mount -rw -o remount -t ext4 /system" and it didn't change it as well.
also - I can create files up to the free space size I see with the df command.
and in the future I would advise you to install apks as google chrome and flash to the data partition...
Also I noticed you changed the parameter files ( I compared only the 8gb version of this version and 1.7 as this is the one I use) , the newer has a double line... you might wanna check that...
Most Important, I would like to thank you for taking the time to create ROMS for us!!! latest rom gets 18k antutu score in HD mode and is faster than previous versions I tried(since 1.6 ...).
