It's not that easy. You can easily change the build.prop to identify your device as Mi Box, but it won't work. We need a proper fix from the manufacturer.

Sure! But Mecool needs to sort things out with Google and release a fix. I sent them an email with a question, but they ignored me. I want to believe that they are working on a fix and will release it shortly, but it's a pure speculation.

I'm from Brazil, unfortunately. The dollar price is kinda high down here right now. And one of our tech regulator agency is now paying more attention to imported electronic without their "legal verification".

From what I've been reading the Mi Box S does not support Netflix other than in 480p SD quality. Can anyone confirm otherwise?

All the Mibox's support 4K Netflix.

correct. Xiaomi MiBox 3 (and S) are both true google certified DRM . therefore, they can run Netflix UHD, Amazon Video etc.
Right now , its the MeCool that is missing DRM keys.
BTW: there is also MiBox 4 (which is targeting Chinese markets ,so they probably have DRM ceritification but they don't really need it)

Would you guys say that the Mibox is the best possible purchase for a guy who would prefer an android box to anything else and mainly wants to have HD Netflix without any issues?

Mibox, Amazon Fire 4K, Roku, Jetstream, Nvidia Shield, AppleTV, basically only American company devices can all stream 4K Netflix with the exception of Xiaomi, they are also a phone company with huge revenues and can pay Netflix for the high license costs.
And for other devices, 4K tv from most manufacturers as they can afford to pay Netflix $5m a year.

Another solution is to get a powerful Windows tv box for around $100 and then use a Kodi addon to add your favorite sites to open fullscreen like Netflix and in that way play in HD.
You can then also install an Android emulator and run normal Android apps apart from HD Netflix.
