Odp: NEW - MK908 Finless ROM 1.6

Or any recommendations on a streaming apk that works well. Looking to stream icefilms and similar.
Thanks,

HI,
I am a newbie and I am trying to install this rom on my mk908, I am having trouble getting the flash program to find the device.. I have the USB connected on the USB port on the PC and the OTG on the device. I can see the device in windows (win 7 x64) but when I run the program it does not find the device..
I assume the USD storage option is the same as USB Device and check mark connect to PC..
Debugging is off but I am not having luck

My observations
First of all I am new here and I would like to thank Finless for all his efforts in making tweaked and optimized ROM's for everybody's use. I have MK908 V3 and this 1.6 ROM is my first custom ROM installed on my device and here are some things I observed:
1) Performance wise, the kernel is greatly optimized. I get 17,000+ score on Antutu (tested both 720p and 1080p kernels via 1080p and 720p screen resolutions)
2) I encountered stability issues but in my opinion this is primarily due to hardware, not software. (I encountered freezing and restarting. I performed several tests and I think these are caused by excessive heating from the chips inside the device and not just some random freeze and restart scenarios. I tested running my device using a watt meter (Omni MMA-D02P) and at idle with minimal background apps running, the device barely consumes 2 watts of power (this includes consumption of standard optical mouse hooked to my device). I ran Antutu and I observed the device could suck as much as 7.5 watts maximum when performing tests that included CPU benchmarking, around 5 watts when performing GPU test and around 4-5 watts for RAM tests and lower than 3 watts for some other tests. I have also tested the power consumption for games (PvZ 2, Zombie Tsunami..) and the device could suck up to 10 watts. I am not also sure about the RAM and GPU frequencies set in this kernel for this release though since CPU is set to 1.6 GHz (max) I could conclude that GPU and RAM freq were also overclocked - no problem also with CPU scaling as CPU-Z properly reports 316-1600 MHz range for scaling. The device just freezes when power reaches 10 watts or more for like more than 10 secs (the device is very hot at this point!).
3) These restarts that I encountered I THINK is due to some thermal protections implemented by the manufacturer thus I also tested the device by putting it in front of an electric fan (by the way I live in Philippines and it's hot in here even at night so we all have fans but no air conditioners) while stressing out the device by playing intensive games and viola, no freezing and restarts that happened. I am planning to do a mod to improve the cooling solution for this device since the stock passive cooler is so inadequate!
4) I will still test other parameters like video playback at high resolutions. I still can't test at the moment coz my NAS is down for a week already, the PSU is broken even after replacing a new one and decent PSU's are expensive in my place.
So to conclude things, Finless has again hit the spot with this new release even though the ROM is optimized for V1. I'm still hoping though that we could close down some issues for our V3 devices and some people out there could help us solve it. I know we could not force them to opt for V3 development since these guys don't even earn that much (or at all?) for making things like these but we salute you guys for everything.

The heat is also normally because of 10W and a really small headsink... perhaps have a look at http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.p...Pic-intensive)RK3288 Devices

AW: NEW - MK908 Finless ROM 1.6
Yeah, so the 2amp power supply is undersized anyways. Probably we need to find a better one that can put out 3amp...
Probably something like this:

Thanks for finless bob for this awesome rom everything is working except low wifi reception but thats a hardware antenna issues so i watched bob's you tube video of antenna mod and i did the same guess what it works i am getting full wifi speed . here is pic of orange antenna hanging out , this thing was glued to the case inside which make wifi reception poor cause of heat .

Flashed yesterday to my v1 908 (purchased in July) and setup XBMC to my liking. Streamed several 720HD movies on XBMC for something like 3 hours. Noticed no stutter except just before a buffer (of which there was only 2 right at the beginning of the movie). Device heat was moderate but nothing like when it was new and running the original stock rom/kernel. Had absolutely no problems with power or wifi. This the best rom yet for my device. Packing it up to take on business trip this week and hopeful that the hotel use will be good. This is really how this stick should perform IMO. Shame it takes the Roms/kernels awhile to catch up with the device. My G-box is the same way.
Thanks Bob. Best of the best!!

I also had that in my mind too, the stock PSU is really underpowered but I was also wondering why would the device not freeze up if adequate cooling was applied to the chips? Maybe the stock PSU is adequate but the cooling system is not. As I've learned from middle school physics, semicons work best on cooler environments thus their efficiency is inversely proportion to it's temperature. It makes sense since when the chip goes hotter (becomes inefficient) it needs more power to keep up with the load yet the stock PSU just can't keep up with the power demand. Guess I'll just mod the cooling for now. Will update soon.

i have not flashed bobs rom yet; im using the latest official rom
i did a heatsink mod with a heatsink taken from a pc motherboard southbridge and used a 1 or 2 bucks dealextreme thermal paste adhesive
i had freezes with a 2.1amp tablet asus charger
using a 6amp psu no freeze at all yet. the device does get hot specially playing plants vs zombies2 and angry birds starwars2 . im happy

Have you also tried installing a DC brushless fan on your cooling mod? I'd like to know if it works too coz I guess this beast really needs active cooling. Passive just can't keep much of the heat away from chip, in my opinion.
