    Hahahaha

After the trouble I went through to unpack these things...I think I deserve a 6 pack!!!!!!! About 12 bucks.

    I hope you enjoy it!!!!!!!!

BTW, please post any differences you find in the two ROM's so users can decide which one is best for them.

        Does 1.8 have multiuser?

Hey Randy, I tried to load your 1.6 version last week and failed - not sure why, probably something I did wrong Anyway, I did manage to go back to stock ROM and then went for the Kasty ROM which is in the same large one file .img format that the stock ROM comes in. This one works fine, but advertised a tun.ko which did not work I got it running with tun.ko loader in the end, then my standard pptp vpn started working anyway (thanks Chinese govn't!) So, my question now is......will it be easy to switch to your 1.8 version and will OpenVPN work on it? I really want to try the multiuser out and your ROM's seem to be the only way to get it right now (without using the PIPO launcher that is!) - but then if the stock ROM is better maybe I should try that first?? Just musing right now, so no need for you to answer, 1.8 seems pretty new.

Trouble with new 1.8 SMS ROM

          Hi Randy,
I've downloaded the 1.8 SMS version and tried three times to flash my tablet, but it refuses to boot after finished flashing, it just goes back to flash mode. Disconnecting the USB cable directly after finished flashing doesn't make any difference.
I went back to the 1.8 OTA and it launches as it should directly after flashing, so my tablet is ok.

Any ideas why it doesn't work?

          Cheers,
          Lars

              Hi Randy,

I have right problems with this OTA ROM.
I can not use the keyboard from the Google Play Store.
I can't edit the file build.prop. I can change it but I can not save. I use ES File Explorer with root rights.

              Can you help me.

The problem with two different versions in one post is that I don't know which one your talking about unless you tell me "SMS" or "OTA" version.

I'm gathering that nobody has successfully booted the "SMS" ROM. Sorry about that, I will have to go back and see what I did. One thing to try, if you want to help me troubleshoot is to take the kernel from the "OTA" ROM and copy it to the "SMS" ROM and see if it boots. If not, try doing the same thing with the boot.img from the "OTA" ROM with the "SMS" ROM.

This will tell me if it's the kernel or the boot.img that's bad. Then, I can fix it. I had the same problem with my latest M7 ROM and it ended up being the kernel. I did that ROM on my home PC yesterday, and I'm at work with my laptop tonight, so I'm afraid I can't do much tonight with it, but your help will give me a starting point to work from. This "SMS" firmware was the one I had all kinds of trouble unpacking.

If you are just wanting a stable ROM to use, just use the OTA for now (realizing you need to reboot several times to get wifi going well).

                      Thanks for the support, ya'll!!!!!!

Sorry I've been silent all day...rough day at the Firehouse. I'm the acting Chief today, and lots of activity to keep me busy...not much time to even check messages.

                        1.8sms OK

Hi All, I have now loaded 1.8sms and it is working fine for me. Same problems with internet not working on first boot/second boot, now working on third boot, but am currently unable to get the pptp vpn working (which could be a China Govn't issue) will report back later on OpenVPN and others as I am now loading all my apps back on having failed to get Titanium backup to work I need to go back to RTFM on that I think as I thought I had a backup, but after loading the new ROM there was nothing there! Still have all my music on the external SD card (which I forgot to take out) just no backup? Hey Ho, we are all learning - at least I am doing this with a new tablet and am expecting it all to go wrong each time.

                            Yes, I can do a 16gb parameter...no problem.

So...the SMS version is working for some folks....Great!!!!!!

Sounds like there might be some polishing to do on Pipo's end. This happens whenever they try to add too much all at once. Be looking for another update, then.

Sure is fun testing this stuff, though.

Always realize, new firmware doesn't always mean better firmware...just a new set of challenges until all of the bugs are worked out.

I've noticed an improvement in the new stock launcher...better functionality and more customization settings, but still not quite ready for my daily use. (At least on my M7 Pro ROM that also came out in the last few days).

If you look in the system folder you will see Pipo has split out their bloatware into two additional folders outside of the /app folder. That makes it much easier for me to find the stuff to remove. I'm pretty much leaving everything in the /app folder except the Chinese keyboard and the RKupdate app.

Keep testing, and posting your results here...I have a feeling Pipo is watching. (I apologize for the sort of anti-Pipo rant I had the other day...turns out, the packing issue was more of a switch back to old school design, not a real problem once I figured out which tool to use). I hope Pipo realizes they are selling more tablets because of my ROM's and shouldn't try to prevent me from making them. I kinda think the tablets are much better off this way. One thing they did do, after I started doing it...is to make the default parameter set to 2gb instead of just 1gb user app space.

                              Titanium Backup freezes

Bad News I am afraid guys. Running 1.8sms I have tried to do a Titanium backup two times now. It froze at 5% first time, 15% second time and only a reset with a small sharp stick will get the tablet up and running. I have also failed to get pptp vpn working although Open VPN did work when tried, so there is some good news amongst the bad.

                                stock works OK

Hi again all - I have now flashed the latest stock sms ROM (20131011_sms_M9pro_update) from Pipo and it works fine - internet off wifi first time, pptp vpn OK first time. I guess I now need to try Randy's ODA version to see if that is any better - I have asked Pipo if they can add multiuser - their reply was - and I quote 'about multiuser - our tablet don't have this function' So I will persevere with RileyRom as I really like having 6Gb for apps and I really want multiuser - the vpn is also a must as I live in China and need to get over/under/through the Great Firewall from time to time (like MOST of the time!) - more later once I have downloaded Randys stuff
