The system partiton is a tight squeeze.

I just shifted from KASTY ROM to RILEYS ROM v1.8 so far so good no wifi problems ,gps no problems with my mods except that the family Launcher was intact,Google Ears was there too which in my country is worthless, Explorer is there too (which I quickly change over to RootExplorer v3.1.2 paid version).
Change the Superuser to chainfire SuperSU and install the busybox in the xbin folder which SuperSU liked.

Instaled Wifi Tx power app and delete the line TxPower=100 from build.prop. Iset the Wifi power through WiFiTx Power app to 18db to safe the power consumption from the standard 32db for all my Android devices without any trouble/dropped signals.

But What I want to ask RILEY is why is your system partition so small? Immediately after flashing I wanted to install some of my favourite updates and apps in there and I couldnt because the system was full 0Mb was available so I had to take remove AppInjector,Calculator,PiPo Family Launcher (which I dont need, I put in Apex Launcher in my system/app),RKInstaller, RkExplorer (cause it doesnt give root access), Video Editor.

After this is done I could put in YouTube,RootExplorer,ApexLauncher, Updated Maps 7.30,DSP Manager,After market CONTACTS to replace the google Contacts,Updated Calendar Sync from 4.3,Gmail, SuperSU 1.65,Updated Talk(Hangout).

Again my question is what makes your ROM system partition so small (at least it is smaller than stock or KASTY ROM), why do you have to do that since we already have an option to increase the data partion to 4,6,8,10 or whatever. I do belief that we dont need such a big system partition but at least a 10% margin immediately after flashing should be sufficient for any mods.
I found this out from the app SYstemCleanup when it says 0Mb available in system partition and I thought that my flashing did not flush or format properly.
And also I replaced the RILEYS boot animation (which look gross) and the size!! 24Mb for bootanimation to the PiPo stock animation which is a manageable 6.9Mb.
Now it has a 32Mb unutilised space instead of 0Mb!

      1.8OTA seems OK as well

hi again All, I have been busy downloading and flashing and have more info to share. and I just got notice of the latest post from cracktech which is interesting to say the least! So, 1.8ota loaded. 1: pptp vpn working fine straight out the box. 2: Titanium Backup NOT! I got three warnings about usb debugging, SU not right and unknown apps not allowed - all of which was rubbish as I had checked all the correct boxes. Inspiration led me to try chainfires superSU - and immediately Titanium backup works perfectly well and a lot faster than before. 3: Boot was faster as well, so I suspect there is something very wrong with 1.8sms. 4: OpenVPN - working fine 5: Keyboard - this is manic and I cannot find a setting to calm it down - it is adding letters and numbers to everything I type making it incredibly difficult to set names and passwords - this has happened with ALL RileyROMS but does not happen with stock or Kasty?? I would rather use Riley as you have a configurable amount of memory, user accounts is set up and it seems most things are working. I will persevere with the keyboard once I have installed the Hackers one which has five rows of keys so you always get the numbers!

No Launcher or any other basic APP installed after OTA1.8

        Hi,

just installed OTA v1.8. The flashing and reboot worked without problems. Selected and connected to my wifi without error...
But except for the GPS-Position APP nothing ist installed, not even a launcher. So when pressing the home-button, I only see a black screen with "com.android.provision.DefaultActivity" in the upper left corner. All buttons are at the baseline - working - but with no launcher I don't know what to do. Long pressing the home-button, normaly would bring up a selection of launcher, doesn't do anything.
Rebooted for about 7 times. Did a complete shutdown an cold start - no actions
        Any hint?

        Thanks
        Mark

          Keyboard??

Well Randy, I am not sure what you have done to the keyboard settings, but I am now unable to install a different keyboard. I NEED both Chinese and English input (I am working in China) and I would also like to be able to use a third party keyboard (I have used Hackers, and Google Pinyin on this tablet before) Without an effective input method I am going to have to revert back to the Kasty ROM which lacks the multiuser function (which I have tried to add to build.prop but esfile explorer won't let me save the edited file!) It looks like I am back to square one with this ?? I only hope this time around that TB works for me as it is getting to be a bit of a chore setting the tablet up each time!

How does one replace the RILEYS boot animation with Pipo's ?

PIPO - IF YOU ARE WATCHING, PLEASE READ!

Had RileyROM been non-existent, then I would have never purchased your tablet. Please do not take any offense to this, but I have been a long fan of the rooted Android community and I am used to debloated software. Your tablet is amazing, but even better with this, as everyone agrees. Thank you for creating a great product at such an affordable price and thank you Randy for taking the time to listen to all of us and better your ROM. Pipo, please do not make the work harder for Randy. He has a good point, had it not been for him, you would not sell as many tablets. I have some gift ideas for this holiday season...

                Hi Cracktech,
I read many of your postings on Arctablet site. Please explain in detail how to delete the line TxPower=100 from build.prop. Being fairly new to this, I would like to become more familiar with all your mods, and how to do them. Thanx in advance.

                  edit build.prop?

Good question. I have been trying to edit this pesky file as well. ESfile explorer lets me do the typing then refuses to save the file?

I look forward to test your ROM. I'm new and I'm pretty lost. Now I have the Pipo Pro M9 with root access and installed ClockworkMod Recovery

Can you install the ROM from ClockworkMod Recovery ?

Thank you very much for your great work.

                    Regards

If not, try doing the same thing with the boot.img from the "OTA" ROM with the "SMS" ROM.
Unfortunately, it did not help. There must to be something else.

                        delete provision.apk ?

OK Guys, I now need to delete the provision.apk from /system, but esfile explorer won't do it - it tells me it is a read only file - does anyone out there have any ideas how to get rid of it please?

                          delete provision.apk

so root file manager was the app to get! BUT it deleted it and then it came back again?

Did you go into settings of ESFile Explorer and turn on Root Read Write privileges? Did you get a Superuser confirmation?

The system isn't read write until you do this.

I don't make system read write by default for security reasons.

BTW, I've experimented with the three major Superuser apps...and seem to have more luck with SuperSU. I'll use that from now on.

The reason I have been streamlining the system is to try to make the whole package smaller. It seems like these firmware packages are getting much bigger. I'll try to find a workable size.

I'm currently running two different kitchens...my home PC and my laptop. I need to make them both the same. I made this ROM on my desktop the other day, which was a little different. I redid this ROM last night on my laptop and made the SMS rom a little bigger with SuperSu. I couldn't upload it due to internet problems at work. I'll try to get this uploaded soon and post a link so we can compare the difference.

So far I have just deleted the Chinese keyboard. Since we have some users who still need this, I'll work on a way to leave it in, but change the default as the standard keyboard. I think I have that figured out.

There seems to be a division between those who put battery life as most important, and others who want to push the hardware to higher performance. This is difficult to pick which tweaks will accomplish both goals. I'll delete the line that turns transmit power to 100% for you deep sleep lovers.

I like everything maxed out for use, and simply power off the tablet when I'm done using it. It is just my habit. But I realize that others prefer to just leave it on to sleep and try to reduce battery consumption. That's two totally different approaches...so I'll try to find a happy medium.

One more thing. The black screen you get on first boot is the provision app setting up the Pipo apps that I leave in. It requires an internet connection. Since it is searching for a bunch of apps that I have deleted, it takes a while to finish...just let it do it's thing. Eventually you will get the prompt to select which launcher to use.

I suspect you need to mount /system as Read/Write. In ES Explorer, select Tools on the left, then Root Explorer, then Mount R/W and pick RW for /system. If it already says RW, it must be something else. That would also allow you to delete Provision.apk (Rename to SomethingElse.apk won't work to allow multi-user).

You can get BuildProp Editor free at Google Store. It should change things so that you can write the file and then change them back. It lets you change individual lines w/o editing the whole thing (unless you want to add lines).
