OK since you guys are my test dummy's.... before I post this as an official ROM in my ROM forum, I need someone to flash this. I flashed it on my Arnova and it booted but thats as far as I can go.

This ROM now has the kernel removed from boot.img. I rooted it e.g. System is now RW permanently as well as /data /cache, etc.
I installed Google Play and the needed files.
I did NOT debloat this yet.

I need testing to see if this all works.

Here is my 1.2 rooted "TEST" ROM with Gplay

This ROM works on my Next7P12. Root is root, gplay works, the only issue I have seen so far is the occasional popup message "unfortunately systemupdate has stopped" clicking ok closes the popup with no obvious consequences. I believe this is caused by the OTA Update service. I will see if I can disable the service.

[EDIT] Disabling OTA Updates in Settings, About Tablet solves the above issue.

Pretty incredible seeing as you don't have a device to test it on :-)

        Thanks Bob

        Randy.

Great Randy! I am glad it works. Now I know you have given me somewhat of a list of BLOAT but now that your are rooted can I ask a favor.

Go into /system/app and rename some of the bloat APK to xxx.aps (instead of .apk) and see what effects the system and what can be removed completely! Some apps you just cannot remove as they maybe related to framework.jar. The only way to know is rename them, reboot, and see what errors you get.

Please... if you can build me a list using the exact file names of the APKs in /system/app I can debloat this ROM and make a 1.5 that will rock!

I will try tomorrow if I don't work too late, either way I will get you the list asap.

On the other hand, Got the popup a couple of times this morning so I guess disabling OTA updates was not the solution. My bad.

Update. I should have waited :-) creating the list of removable bloatware, removing stuff (likely the ota.apk) eliminsated the error. So far.

              Randy.

G'day Bob, seems I am not scheduled to work this morning, so far, since I set my alarm for 4:45 I figured I'd make myself useful. Here is the list.

                NextP12 APKs.txt

                It boots amazingly fast now.

Since I removed Astro and Explorer, I've been using Rhythm Software's File Manager (my fav), I imagine we should stick in some file manger or other.

Any chance we can change the keyboard? As soon as I tap "default" to change keyboard the system reboots, this has been an issue from the original ROM.

                Randy.

OK I should be able to work on this today and make a 1.5 debloat. I have to visit my Dad in the hospital today so there will be a large gap in time before I get this done.

As for sticking in apps, I cannot do that as it cannot violate the creators terms of use or distribution rights. Even for free apps! So in order to put an app in a ROM we have to have permission from the creator.

Anyway the debloat ROM will include Petrus APP Injector so you can put back what you want. So if there are any other apps that could be taken out as optional, because we can put them back after the ROM flash, let me know. On my other ROM I remove almost everything! App Injector gives the user to put back exatly what they want.

The reason this works so well is NAND disk fragmentation. When you remove stuff you leave holes in NAND memory because it is blocked in 4096 chunks. So removing everything you can up front, then allowing people to put back what they want, is best for performance. Heck I even remove the stock browser on my ROMs. However that can cause problems fo other things like voice search so most the time you put that back anyway.

So just some more ideas to what else could be removed.

                  Bob

Randy, I think we may have some confusion.

Are you sure this ROM is the SE with capacitive screen and not the 7 SE with resistive screen?

The reason I ask this is because the guys with older 7P's that flashed this ROM say the screen does not work. The older 7P is a capacitive screen. I am thinking it should works on the older 7P which leads me to believe this ROM is the resistive screen model?

Nextbook as updated the web site. See my 2nd post in here:

                    http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.p...onfusion-7S-SE

I just got the 7S (resistive) ROM dump from user NPRS. I guess I can compre the 2 dumps and see if they are the same.

I am still a little skeptical..... The reason is that the older 7P has the EXACT same specs as the 7SE except for the amount of RAM and of course the button layout if very different. I could understand the buttons not working but the screen should UNLESS they changed the screen manufacturer on the SE models which I suppose they could.

What did you pay for your SE's guys?

Resistive lists for 149 and SE for 179. I know you got them cheaper than list.

                                Hello!

That's 'N4RPS' (or, as Gene Wilder would say, that's FRANKENSCHTEEN, heheheheheheh...)

(I apologize for posting this across multiple forums; I do not make doing that a habit.)

                                My FULL serial is 'YF031269456'.

Once I remembered to run the utility, your procedure worked perfectly. (The 7S has hardware volume buttons.)

Thanks to you, Finless, we now have a Premium 7s stock ROM.

I'd say the 7s is ready for rooting and all the OTHER THINGS you like to do with a ROM.

                                How 'bout YOU?
