It's the xbmc from the links in my posts above. Will check version later.
I haven't played any games on it I'm afraid.
It seems a little sluggish compared to Finless 1.7 roms.
Will check root at some stage.

Can confirm this rom IS rooted. CWM installation as detailed at http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.p...8-3066-devices is working too.

...it comes rooted? I flashed it several times during tests and had to root each time. I used another (failed) method when installing CWM.

              Interesting (and rather odd).

Root checker definitely says it is rooted. ES File Explorer has root access when I select it (and I can remove system apps with it and also run adblocker/adaway so definitely rooted) and the CWM installation worked perfectly from the instructions I linked above.

A SIMPLE SET-UP AND HOW I ARRIVED THERE

Here is what my current simple set-up looks like and how I arrived there. Hopefully someone will find it useful if exploring Android TV for the first time or considering flashing this excellent ROM.

                SCREENSHOTS:

                TV STICK:
The stick I have calls itself a Justop K9b, which is a MK809ii I believe. It was purchased from amazon back in June 2013. At the moment it is shown at the following link: http://www.amazon.co.uk/JUSTOP-II-An.../dp/B00AFVO1EA

                ROM:
The ROM I have flashed is the one linked in the excellent first post here. It is available (as of Dec 2013) from http://www.rikomagic.com/en/download/download_18_1.html . It is the second one down - Rikomagic MK802IIIS8G(B) Android 4.2 Software(131107) and the direct link is http://www.sendspace.com/pro/dl/sxms6w
A full installation guide is included in the download, but I used the 'connect USB to computer whilst holding in the reset button with a paperclip' method (as mine has a reset button), installed the drivers from the package when requested, and flashed with the included RKBatchTool. Don't forget that the first boot takes the longest.

                WHY THIS ROM:
This is now my preferred ROM! As noted in post 1, wireless works! These TV sticks are notorious for very poor wireless performance/disconnects. I have previously tried a few ROMS including the stock Justop ROM and Finless 1.7 and 2.0 for Imito MX1/MX2. They were pretty good, although wireless performance was dreadful with all ROMs I tried. In the end I purchased a mini USB ethernet adaptor. I should say that I am using the wired connection at the moment, but only because the wiring etc. is already there! I have run it on the wireless for extended periods without issues. However, even wired it is better than lots of other ROMs where I have had to 'fix' ethernet on boot using a little script. On this ROM, ethernet works on boot without any fiddling around.

Another reason is I just prefer the 'cleaner' stock boot screen on this ROM. It's purely a cosmetic thing. The ROM is rooted from the off too!

                ANTUTU BENCHMARK:
Changing HDMI mode from 1920x1080p-60 to 1280x720p-50 increased the Antutu benchmark to 12170 from 11565, which I'm led to believe is quite low compared to some ROMs. What I do know is that my £70 Xiaocai X9 phone scored 13266 and my original Nexus 7 scored 13524.

                INSTALLING CLOCKWORKMOD RECOVERY
Big thanks to the author of the post at http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.p...8-3066-devices for how to do this as I had previously managed to get myself into a CWM bootloop! Note: I would have thought that you'll need to be rooted to do this, so as this ROM is rooted you'll be OK!

The great instructions from PolarBear are basically as follows:

                1) Download and install the ArcTools apk attached to PolarBear's post.
                http://www.freaktab.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=4041&d=1384832674
                2) Once installed it will ask you to update so do it.
                3) In the ArcTools app, select the button that is second from the upper left "REBOOT".
                4) From the menu, choose "REBOOT RECOVERY" then "SELECT REBOOT".
                5) Your device will boot into it's original recovery mode.
Note: When I did this it rebooted into recovery and did a full reset - I thought it had hung in recovery mode but give it time. It then reboots to the factory state.
                6) Once your device is powered back on, start the ArcTools app again, click/tap the pulldown option list near the top left.
                7) Click/Tap on "ROCKCHIP GENERIC (RK3066,RK3188) CWM RECOVERY v. xxxx by fun..."
                8) At upper left, click/tap DOWNLOAD. When download is complete, click/tap the next button "INSTALL APPS". (NOTE: Follow this and the next two steps at your own risk!)
                9) The script runs very quickly here, and when you see the last line "RUNNING SCRIPT(1)" the process is finished.
                10) Now just repeat steps 3 and 4 (REBOOT, REBOOT RECOVERY and SELECT REBOOT), and your device will reboot into CWM recovery!
Note: I am able to control CWM with the USB mouse by moving it forward and backwards and left clicking when the desired option is selected.

                LAUNCHER:
My launcher of choice is Holo Launcher HD (free) from Google Play. It looks just like the stock Launcher on this ROM, but the icons are 'cleaner' (no grey square around them), I can customise the number of rows and columns on each screen, remove home screens and hide some apps from the app drawer for a cleaner, more 'family friendly' appearance. As I only have one desktop screen, I did have to turn off tablet scrolling between screens. I also wanted a darkish, crisp backdrop for the desktop - google was my helpful assistant here!

                APPLICATIONS:
One of the first apps I always install in Android is ES File Manager. This is available from Google Play. Using its built in Root Tools option and making system folders rw, unwanted system apps can be uninstalled using this app.

I also use the RKM_remote.apk on my Nexus to aid control/text input when using the TV stick. It's the one for the Mobile Control APK for MK802IV/IIIS/III(Android 4.2 system) from http://www.rikomagic.com/en/download/download_24_1.html (Direct link http://www.sendspace.com/pro/dl/oo37b6 )

Adaway and Adblock plus are my two favourite adblockers. They aren't in the Play Store so you'll need to find them. They are only a google away. Reboot by Petrus (http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.php?1050-Reboot-App) is another early install. Get it from https://www.dropbox.com/s/xhlhjnwkm0...oot_v1.1.2.apk

I don't have any games/e-mail etc. installed on it as the stick is used purely for catchup-TV and accessing networked media files. I may pop a flash-compatible browser and flash on it to access UK web-based catchup services if I get a moment. I did have these on my previous config.

                PLAYING NETWORK MEDIA
This can be done through XBMC (see below), but to be honest, I use ES File Manager with files defaulting to play through MXPlayer (from the Play Store). I simply set up a link to the network share in ES File Manager, create a shortcut on the desktop to the folder and access files through it.

                UK ON DEMAND TV
The BBC iPlayer (needs BBC Media) is available from the Google Play and now works over wifi and ethernet (I couldn't make it work on Ethernet on Finless ROMs). It isn't optimised for the big screen though and is pretty pixely. It's good enough for a casual viewing whilst working. Demand5 and 4OD do install from the Google Play, but neither seem to play (with or without adblockers). The ITV player claimed to be incompatible with the device, but it does work when installed manually. Again, a little search is all that is required.

                XBMC
For higher quality iPlayer and ITV Player viewing, you'll need XBMC and to install the appropriate zip plugins. The version I have installed is 13.0-Alpha8 Git:20130922-5aef1c5 (Compiled: Oct 5 2013). The guide for this is available at http://makesmarttv.net/external-play...no-compromise/ and the download linked there is at http://wololo.net/downloads/index.php/download/7975 .

Basically, run MX Player before installing XBMC. Install XBMC from the apk (uninstall previous installs first), run XBMC (first run takes longer) and quit from the program. In the article it refers to the playercorefactory.xml file. I have made the one I use available at http://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/7...orefactory.xml
I also use my advancedsetting.xml file from http://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/7...edsettings.xml
Use ES File Manager to put the playercorefactory.xml and advancedsettings.xml linked above in /sdcard/Android/data/org.xbmc.xbmc/files/.xbmc/userdata You'll need to show hidden files first I believe. You can then find and install plugins - there are loads of guides around for XBMC. I just use the iPlayer plugin and the ITV Player plugin at the moment. I also have it set to access my network share, although as noted earlier, I don't tend to use it to play these.

                THANKS:
Once again, huge thanks to creator of this thread, this rom, the XBMC guides linked above and the CWM installation linked above. I haven't really tinkered with my Justop K9b for a few months and this was just the kick I needed to start the usual cycle of: "Tinker, tinker, tinker, brick, reflash, tinker, tinker..."

                MY BACKGROUND
Just a casual tinkerer to be honest who tends to trawl through other people's excellent and much appreciated work, picking out the bits which work for me. My biggest project/contribution to the tinkering techy world is probably my work on the now-discontinued o2 Joggler device (from just before 'tablets' took off) over at http://www.jogglerwiki.com/forum/vie....php?f=2&t=555

Thanks for a very well organized break down and post, @offbeatdave. I'm surprised no one has asked yet, but what are your Antutu scores like with this rom? Is the rom capping your CPU upper limit at 1416? That was another thing I didn't quite like about the Rikomagic rom on my device.

Yeah, it is capping it at 1416. Will try and benchmark later.

                              ANTUTU BENCHMARK:
Antutu Benchmark clocks in at 11565 - whatever that means! I've never used it before so I've no idea how that stacks up. What I do know is that my £70 Xiaocai X9 phone scored 13266 and my original Nexus 7 scored 13524.

                                Hi,

I have the following problem with this ROM installed. When I try to shutdown the system, a reboot happens instead of shutdown. There is no such problem with stock ROMs and Finless ROMs. Does anybody have the same problem? How can I fix it?

                                Thanks
