The best way is to edit the line in build.prop to comment out the OTA update link.

Thanks. That sounds easy enough to do.

When I flash the new ROM is there anyway to not flash TRWP? Is it as easy as just checking the recovery.img box? Just curious because I already have an almost fully working CWM and I dont wanna loose it...

I went ahead and replaced both the parameter files and the recovery from the new rom with the ones from the old rom. You can find them in the rileyrom folder of each. Or you could just not check the recovery box. It won't hurt to keep your recovery.

Recovery runs independent of the main system.

Have you talked to abdul about getting a custom twrp for the sero 8?

Yes, but he has been very busy. I will remind him. I have a list of tablets that need TWRP.

I was using the rk dumper tool to do a complete dump of my sero and noticed there isnt a user portion in the parameter. Instead the userdata portion has -@0x00000000 as it says user would. But when i do the calculation based on what it says and get the hex value for start it only backs up roughly 2 gigs. Is there a different calculation if user isnt there and its userdata that needs calculating?

I fianlly got it to flash the rom, but when the tablet reboot its stock in the boot logo "Hisense Sero 8, rileyrom 1.1, Freaktab.com turning round and round. There were no error during erase IDB and flash the rom, how can I get out this mode and reflash again?

                    This is a KitKat ROM.

                    This ROM is:

                    Rooted
Debloated of all of the Walmart/Sam's Club apps
                    Init.d/Busybox support added
                    Google Play Store fixes
Auto Install of apps in the external SD "autoinstall" folder.
                    Reboot App by Petrus
                    New Boot Animation

Since this is from a ROM dump, I've unpacked and repacked the boot.img and recovery.img files to make them the correct size. I've kept the stock parameter file, so you will have the same user app space, until I can figure out how to change it...there's a line missing in this parameter file...so I'm afraid to mess with it...I don't know how a change will react on your tablet. I believe that apps are being installed on the internal SD...so there's no need for other parameter files.

Just run the flash tool and plug in your tablet using the USB cable that came with it. Make sure USB debugging is turned off. The flash tool should see your tablet in Mass Storage Mode. Click reboot to flash and it will change to flash mode.

IMPORTANT: Uncheck the loader.bin at the top, it's checked by default. The reason for this is, we are going back with the same firmware. I don't know which loader.bin is currently on your tablet...so the one included in the kit will brick your tablet, if it isn't the same. It's ok to use the same loader.bin with the same firmware...so don't worry.

Erase IDB, then flash the ROM.

It will first boot to recovery and format everything. Later, if you want to flash CWM or TWRP recovery, you can just flash it instead of the stock recovery from the flash tool.

                    Here's the link:

                    Download

Here is a newer version based on an OEM ROM dump provided by Freaktab user steve&b.

This new version contains the same features listed above, with auto installation of TWRP Recovery (by Abdul_pt) on first boot. When you flash the ROM, you will see the stock recovery format the partitions. Wait a couple of minutes before rebooting on the first boot to system. Then when you reboot to recovery, you will have TWRP.

                    Download

                    Enjoy!!!!!!
                    Donations Welcomed...please tip the developers.

While the animation is running, the flash tool should see the device in mass storage mode. Just click reboot to flash together back to loader mode. Try flashing with a different parameter file.

I tried that and it did not wor. However, after rebooting a few time it suddenly worked for some reason. It was on the animatioin for about 10-15 minute but it now boots fine. The tablet is working and rooted.

I have another question, my 32GB SD card had a small second partition for Link2SD, it was worikng fine with Sero 7 pro, when I insert the same SD card to the Sero 8 the second partition will not mount. I put the same SD card back to Sero 7 Pro both partition mounted, moved it back to Sero 8, 2nd partion will not mount. Does this has anything to do with Kitkat not liking the second partition?

That's a real possibility. This kernel may not recognize the format of the partition.

If you set the partition up from the other tablet, you may need to set it up from the Sero 8. Rockchip devices have a different mounting scheme.

I got an another issue, I used Titanium backup to restore apps and data I backup from Sero 7, I had a 11.75GB free space on the Sero 8 before I restore from the backup. After the restore I had only 3.35GB free space left same as the sero 7. Some how the restore also format the free space to match the space on the sero 7. Even after I clear all data the free space is still 3.35GB, is there anyway to fix this problem other then flash the rom again?
