    WeTek Play - AML-8726 MX

    Hello guys,

This is my first post here, and I would like to share info about WeTek Play, new Android TV box powered by AMLogic AML-8726-MX SoC.

I manage to compile latest version of OpenELEC with Kodi 14.0, and now device is running OpenELEC directly from MicroSD, so when I want to use Android, only remove MicroSD and reboot device so it boot directly in Android 4.2.2 JellyBean.

Interesting is that device have option of Plug & Play tuners, and available tuners are for Satellite, ATSC, and Hybrid tuner which is for Cable/Terrestrial (T/T2).

Great thing is that it have RS 232 and RS 232 cable is shipped with device, so it allow easy debug and testing with direct access to u-boot console.

    Here are some of infos:

    OpenELEC (unofficial) Version: devel-20141118151354-r19722-g0a17285
    OpenELEC git: 0a17285b1dac219582bee6cc3ff666da23ec1b2c

    Linux OpenELEC 3.10.33 #1 SMP PREEMPT Tue Nov 18 15:16:40 MSK 2014 armv7l GNU/Linux

Wifi is Broadcom AP6211, so both Ethernet and Wifi is running ok at same time.

Apart from compilation, I added AP6211 firmware (fw_bcm40181a2.bin) in /lib/firmware/brcm (also patch for g18dtd included in attachment).

My built firmware already include AP6211 firmware and Wifi is working:

MEGA provides free cloud storage with convenient and powerful always-on privacy. Claim your free 50GB now!

How to install OpenELEC for WeTek Play:

Simply unpack file wetekplay-openelec.tar.bz2, and burn .img file with Image Writer application ( http://sourceforge.net/projects/win32diskimager/ ) to your MicroSD, turn off WeTek Play, insert MicroSD and WeTek Play will boot into OpenELEC. Once when want to go back to android, simply remove MicroSD and reboot and it will boot in Android.

look like prismecube ruby. But wetek very cheap than prismecube. Because 150 £ prismecube ruby. Otherhand somebody very easy compile new (tvheadend and other ) component What you want.
No video have 1080p fps and cpu usage dvb channel. But very slow zapping. My minix and ganitech usb dvbs tuner fast zapping than all other device. Maybe tvheaden ver very old protocol 12. At this time protocol 17 and android tvheadend work perfecly than linux version. Wetek android player like to other amlogic dvb player apk. May be wetek need to support tvheadend or vdr vnsi client for device under android

                    Hi taki,

Yes I use very old tvheadend, tomorrow or next days i will compile newest version.

My antenna is very old and need to be re-alligned and today when i was recording was raining like hell with wind, so signal was not so good.

Device performs very fast as it is Dual Core 1.5 GHz AMLogic SoC.

Also this was on OpenELEC 4.2.0, anywau now when DVB is working everything can be done

Good thing is that WeTek have Plug & Play tuners for all Satellite, Terrestrial and Cable. Hybrid tuner is for both, Cable and DVB-T/T2.

Of course not, I doubt if mx2 have tuner at all. For me one of the best Android TV box which I had in my hands.

I think first one which I have to be Google GMS certified, it is also listed at Google Supported devices list

MX2 dont have external rs232 and many other things.

Honestly no idea, I contacted them after review on CNX Software as developer and I got one last week. Jean Luc at CNX mentioned that they will start selling at end of november.

You can mail them, if you get info you can share here.

Few words from me about WeTek device

                              Hi,

I saw this topic and decided to write few words. I have WeTek device for some time now and I can say that their dev team put lot of effort in making this device.

WeTek is not clone of any device on market. As I know they put lot of effort in modifying and extending Amlogic SDK to satisfy user's needs. Lets face it, all Chinese devices come with basic Amlogic SDK modified for their pcb's and maybe modified Launcher with small redesign of it.

Another thing, it's enthusiast or developer friendly because you can access to any part of it by accessing UART console by connecting provided RS232 cable to your computer.

As you saw, there are CM, AOKP and other ports of Android (see their forum). There is Linux support (full featured LUbuntu desktop) which can be booted from properly created sdcard.

DVB-S2 tuner which I received with device I did not test because I don't have proper infrastructure, but I know that beside Android, OpenELEC and tvheadend works with tuner as well.

I got info that WeTek will be available next week worldwide. Device will be shipped with 6-axis AirMouse RCU with numeric keypad and multimedia controls on it (receiver is in box itself, connected via USB).

Now, what I wrote might sound like some sort of advertisement or something like that, but its not. It's my opinion. I know WeTek guys and they are pretty cool guys and from them you can expect any support you need

                              Cheers,
