      USB Information

After doing a bit of research, I have found out that the USB port of the PMID702C is an actual USB port and not an OTC (system upgrade only) port.

This is good news if you are looking for a keyboard case for the Tablet.

I have found a few on **** for under $15. All that is needed is the MINI USB converter. I got one for about 60 cents (with free shipping) on ****. It will convert the standard USB to a MINI USB (5 pin) port.

Here is one that I am looking at currently....

If you look closely...this one actually comes with the mini USB cable instead of the standard. It's the only one I've seen so far...

        PTAB7XC is my model number

The kit at BL comes with a neoprene case, a stylus and a screen protector for $10.00.

I picked it up when I got the tablet there.

They sell the stylus pens and the neoprene cases alone for $5.00 each separately.

This case/keyboard/usb cable seems pretty nice for the 15$

I'm thinking about getting it sometime soon..

I thought that it might be a USB port. But when I tried plugging the cable into a usb f/F connector, the a powered USB hub I had no luck whatsoever in adding a usb keyboard. No sign that tablet recognized any usb devices. (Unless there's a setting issue different from my android phone.)

I got. This. But the screen protector is too big.

I picked up the "kit" today at BL. You're right, the protector is too big. But I got it on without cutting anything. The trick is to first clean the screen really well, and take care that no dust particles are on the screen. I started by randomly picking an edge and getting the protector as close to parallel with the edge of the bezel, and gently laid the rest down. Use your fingernail to coax the plastic to tuck under the bezel, first on one side, then the other. The only other problem will be getting the air bubbles out. That'll simply take time to work out.

                Hope this helps!

P.S. what sucks is there are absolutely NO instructions in the box!

does a small keyboard really raise the utility of these

devices? I have had this for less than a week and am finding more uses as a tool and not just a toy.

can one's fingers get on that board if you get a case with keyboard or should i just get the big lots case and peck the screen board ?

I have wifi only on this pmid 702c and no data phone so this a new area. i learned yesterday that a .apk is like a .exe in android

I can administer my home network with it so it is becoming useful to me.

                  Thoughts?

I think google play is working now but I have lost both the physical button on the front and screen home buttons. I have seen that people said a Factory reset solved the problem. Does that mean after the reset you had to install google play again and what did you do to help both to work?

Is factory reset the little button on the back or do I have to do the thing with downloading from the souther...... website? I have a mac and wondered if I do have to do the stuff from the website, will it work because Macs don't really recognize .exe files. I have a really old version of Parallels but I don't know if that will work ok or not?

Basically I am trying to figure out if I really need play or should I just use the Amazon App Store (and others) to get the Apps that I need after the reset.

Like most I would like to have my cake and eat it to (aka home buttons working with Google Play)

I am so new to this I am just trying to navigate my way around. I really don't have a firm grasp on all the different things you guys are talking about but I am trying/willing to learn. Any and all help would be appreciated.

I put it in this thread because I think the PTAB7XC and the PMID702C are pretty much the same at least from what I can gather. Thanks
You've probably figured things out by now, but in case others run into this or you still haven't gotten Google Play to act nice, I'll recap my experience with this problem. Keep in mind I'm a novice in this realm, too. This is my first Android device and I've had it for 11 days now.

After going here: http://www.the-digital-reader.com/20...roid-pmid702c/ and following those instructions, Google Play worked fine for a few hours, then the home buttons stopped working.

I tried to de-install Google Play manually, but that didn't rectify the home buttons; so, I finally resorted to doing a factory reset. That got my home buttons back, but it also reset all the adjustments I'd made to the device settings and reset all my browser bookmarks. The device was essentially in the same state it was when I first bought it, although pictures I had taken and the download folder was still intact.

Being a glutton for punishment, and not really being sure what caused my "home Button" problem, I went back to that same link, and reinstalled Google Play by the same method. Once again the tablet and Google Play worked well for at least 6 hours, at which time I went to bed, and when I woke the next morning, I found the home buttons were again not responding.

So, once again, I did a factory reset (/settings/Backup and Reset/Factory data reset). Back to square one with my home buttons working again.

This time, (as N4RPS had suggested), I used LiquidLimez' script you can find in this thread: http://www.freaktab.com/archive/index.php/t-706.html

That script worked well for me as I now have had Google Play working flawlessly for over a week. My tablet has no issues whatsoever, and I'm quite pleased. I did notice that my tablet now thinks it's a Pmid701i after running this script, whereas it was initially a Ptab702c, but EVERYTHING is still working perfectly.

Having said all that, I'm not sure Google Play is worth all that time and effort. Getting apps through Amazon and other means seems just as viable. Maybe I'm missing something, but I'm not all that impressed with Google Play.

I don't mind the home buttons not working really now, I'm used to it... I use the back button and an app named "button savior" that adds a tiny icon on the side of my screen that has a home button built in that works.

I myself have not installed Play since my tablet is not just for my personal use but for the kids and guests to use as well. That being said, you tend to get the the most and latest apps from Play since it is the "Official" market for Android and supposedly your malware threat is also reduced.

I read in another post that if you install the firmware from the official ST site then you get the links to the other markets and not just to Amazon. I've already posted about other markets that I have used and which one I currently use.

I believe Google should change their current way of allowing market access since they are really limiting their revenue stream by following the way Apple does it, but that is for another post.

                          Help with USB keyboard

I just got my USB keyboard (with mini USB adapter) and I am trying to find the instructions on how to get the keyboard to work. I remember seeing them somewhere on one of these forums, but now I can't seem to find it.

Can anyone help me out with getting this hooked up?

                          Thanks in advance!

                              Cannot always close browser tabs

I'm having issues closing tabs in the browser of the PMID702C. After working as expected at first, the X on the tabs don't always (actually rarely) activate to close the browser tabs. Instead of highlighting in blue to show it is selected and then closing, it just stays gray and remains open. The quick controls did not help.

I saw at least one other person is having the same issues:

                              Any ideas or tips?

you have to rub the little 'X' either a down stroke or up stroke...then once the 'x' turns blue...tap it again. The wife useing her tiny fingers showed me it was possible. For awhile i thot it was impossible with my fat fingers , but ive got it down quickly now ......you can also try flipping the tablet. Closeing the browser X Tabs was the only hick-up i could find with this tablet. There's a glitch on every personal device , knowing how to use it personalizes it more . Hope this helps
