Only if you want Harware DTS/DD decoding. XBMC do this just fine in SW. Also MX player with XDA DTS lib.

It seems that the kernel tree is sort of generic across the devices so this device should benifit as time goes on.
I have downloaded the latetes kernel source from amlogic openlinux site (arm-src-kernel-2014-03-14-73442db911.tar.gz)
and it does not seem to have specific support for S802 (I doubt if its messon8...) so they are still holding on to it in their Git repositories I guess.
Come one release it! Its the GPL way - this device will get great community support with this!
