nice work to neomode, so fast and nice.
You sure you want to be a tester?
Can you recover from a bad flash?
If so i"ll prepare you an Ubuntu Trusty 14.04 LTS LXDE image to flash (~3gb)

          So image is uploaded.

Un7zip it first then is preferable to format nand
          Code:
          sudo ./upgrade_tool [B]lf[/B]
          Then
          Code:
           sudo ./upgrade_tool [B]uf Ubuntu_Trusty_14.04_LTS_LXDE_X5_Mini.img[/B]
          Make sure to check md5sum
          c28b0e5f1f950af0504ddf668c072d4e Ubuntu_Trusty_14.04_LTS_LXDE_X5_Mini.img

          Boot will take 10-15min

                      Hello,

The Best way for a Build Environment is the Following Setup:

1.: Ubuntu 12.04 or Linux Mint (I prefer Linux Mint because i don´t like the Ubuntu Desktop)
2.: Install all Updates after the Install
3.: Then do the follow as Root

                      sudo add-apt-repository ppa:webupd8team/java
                      sudo apt-get update
                      sudo apt-get install oracle-java6-installer

sudo apt-get install git-core gnupg flex bison gperf libsdl1.2-dev \
                      libesd0-dev libwxgtk2.8-dev squashfs-tools build-essential zip curl \
                      libncurses5-dev zlib1g-dev pngcrush schedtool libxml2 libxml2-utils \
                      xsltproc lzop libc6-dev schedtool g++-multilib lib32z1-dev lib32ncurses5-dev \
                      lib32readline-gplv2-dev gcc-multilib libswitch-perl

                      sudo apt-get install gcc-arm-linux-gnueabihf \
                      lzop libncurses5-dev \
                      libssl1.0.0 libssl-dev

Now your ready to go. If you have any more Questions feel free to ask.

                      Regards
                      Neomode

Thanks for the time for this but am setup with 14.04 already as am an RD at xda and part of cyanogenmod team (p880-optimus-x4hd maintainer)
I was more interested at kernel source, device tree, and propriertary blobs.
I havent worked with rockchip soc before so i dont know where to start with this.
