I fixed this. The permissions on the 'su' binary must be 6755. After getting the '#' prompt, type

    chmod 6755 /system/bin/su

Once I had true root access, I was able to fix this by installing SuperSu, which has the ability to disable/hide, then later re-enable, the superuser capability.

I am now able to watch Flixster (Ultraviolet) movies on the tablet.

How do I get back to the # when I reconnect the tablet without going through all the steps brujo123 stated in #6... and what does this line of code actually mean, just a simple explanation??? (just to help me understand a little) I saw this line in one of the files... do not remember if it was in the runme.bat or one of the .prop files???

EDIT** Went and redid the steps. I think its fully rooted but when you look in OTA rootkeeper Status: "/system supports root protoction" is not checked. Does this matter?

          NetFlix, Flash and YouTube

Will it be possible to get Netflix and Flash working??

NetFlix runs but when you play the movie, only the sound will work, the picture is not displayed.
Adobe Flash 11 can not be installed. There is an error on download: " could not be downloaded due to an error retrieving infromation from server".
***Note: was able to install flash by going to adobes archive site and select the version and download
Youtube runs fine. If there is "HD" in the lower left corner of the video, I have to turn off by selecting the "HD" and then the video will play.

Any suggestions on how to tweek this further to get it working?
          Thanks

After typing "adb shell", I think you can just type "su". However, that may not suffice to change the permissions on "su" itself. You may have to go through most of the sequence so that you can get to "adb remount". That's what I did.

In Unix (and Linux and Android etc.), file permissions specify whether a file is readable, writable, or executable, and by whom. In addition, the file permissions may have additional specifications such as "set user id" and "set group id", which mean that the file can potentially run with the permissions of its original owner rather than the permissions of the currently running program. The permission code 6755 includes "set user id" and "set group id" as well as "execute".

I'm not sure. I used the SuperSU app instead. The real question is: Can you hide the rootedness so that Flixster (and similar apps) will play movies?

According to this YouTube video (and other Internet sources), you might be able to fix this by installing the 1.8.1 version instead.

I've been reviewing this thread is a cumulative process written out yet? I'd be more than happy to consolidate what's been mentioned if anyone can confirm an actual rooted, working ptab8000.. I bought 2 for my kids and would love to root it!

Yes, mine is rooted and working, but still with a couple of glitches, most notably the need to reinitialize the Amazon App Store (by clearing its cache and data) after every reboot.

Why worry about the amazon store if you have google play installed? If you google this issue it seems to be pretty wide spread and not just on the Polaroid tablet.. I've had issues like this and I'm not even rooted...

With the Voodoo OTA rootkeeper, there is a temp. un-root option, which I am assuming you can unroot, then restore the root later.

                          Help a newbie please?

                          Hello fellow Android users,

I got a Polaroid PTAB8000 on Black Friday, and since I've been reading dozens of post on this site and others. I'm trying to root so I can edit Build.Prop (to play a certain game), but my brain has been turned into a jumbled mess! Everything I've tried has resulted in failure, so here I am to ask for the noob-friendliest tutorial ever - how the heck can I do this?

Thanks in advance to anyone who helps me,

Did I actually "brick" this device?

Well , when I went to to bed last night, was so happy most of everything app wise was working after rooting. Plugged it in to charge, go to use it and now is in a loop. Boots up and every 10 seconds restarts. So what do I do now? Since I had it rooted when I go to the settings it doesnt have the model# as ptab8000 anymore. Suggestions?
