    Nice work man,

So you shorted NAND flash pins with the needle until it was detected via USB?

Guess that would make sense too, as the device is likely looping/hanging when loading the incompatible uboot.
In my case I could see it looping with initialzation messages coming over the serial line.
Shorting the flash will disable it and the device will likely skip loading anything (like incompatible uboot) from it and go on to USB/SDcard etc.

You just want to watch out which NAND-pins are being shorted, as it could destroy the flash or other parts of the device.

If anyone with the MXQ_A board is interested I've found a bootloader that works for a true power-off. No logo though, just blank, and LED stays blue but, coupled with kszaq's MXQ build v6.0.1.1 then you'll not only have true power-off, but working WiFi, Stable IP-Address and working remote. Just load the android first from the link, and then v6.0.1.1. Link: https://mega.nz/#!zMsGGQZa!iPmZO8-VF...kmHWW-yTb7s5vM for the SDCard/Toothpick version. If the link vanishes, it can be found off http://chinagadgetsreviews.com searching for MXQ and you're looking for this one "Image: MXQ_112k4.img / m201-ota-20150915.zip". If anyone finds one that works better (i.e. keeps true power-off but adds bootup logo and/or working LED) then please do let me know :-) The stock versions I've tried for this board give a nice MXQ logo but does not provide a true poweroff, only suspend.

It was a last ditched attempt and it worked. So all is pretty much back to normal apart from:

        1. My wifi antenna wire came loose and I may solder it back but it didn't work properly anyway.
        2. Can't boot the box from remote anymore, well I need to unplug it every night anyway, as the USB memory sticks get really hot, so no biggey having to plug it in once a day.
        3. On a plus note it does seem a bit smoother / snappier, not that it made up for the stress in anyway!

So I may not be too keen to update in future, think I'll let jed and Kosta lead the way for a while!

Now I am going to try and chill. Goodnight all!
        Congratulations!!!

Jed: Does this work with the remote with the color buttons at the top and without the line around them? If it does a my give it a go. Am I a warrior or what!?! Have you got a link to the ROM that only does suspend as that would suit my needs?

It is important to try and minimise my USB sticks heat problem as I'm sure it will shorten their life, and is possible a safety issue.

Yep, the one I discovered with true power-off works fine with"our" remote. You already have the ROM that only does suspend - it was you that posted it :-)

Try the MXQ sd/card version. Not the HD18Q version. Can only not work but you will still have your android when you power on without the sd card inserted.

I flashed this Android rom but i did not get wifi in Android.
Remote worked but i did not check Mac Address changing in ethernet connection.

I flashed OpenElec 6.0.1.1 over the Android rom and wifi works Remote works.

Mac Address Changes after power off or re boot. So ip address changes after each power off or re boot.

My Board is "AM_MXQ-A 20150825" Wifi Chip "RTL8189ETV" Just to be clear.

UPDATE: Just tried 6.0.1.1 sd card on another MXQ White test unit s805 i just received and can confirm that this box does not
change Mac Address in Android and does not fully power off in Android either. I un plugged it whilst in Android to re power it and it keeps its Mac Address and the same IP.

I then booted into OpenElec and saw i had shut down and re boot option and custom shutdown options.

Shut Down (Clean power off) works and re boot works.

In OpenElec after shut down or Reboot It changes Mac Address and IP.

So i believe the issue is OpenElec

OpenELEC-Amlogic.HD18Q.arm-6.0.1.1.zip works great on this version mxq clone

if we wanted to update our openelec version do we have to do that via the sd slot, and is there anyway to put new version of kodi on?

You can also copy the .tar file version to the "update" folder and just reboot. Kodi version is integrated into OpeneElec. On android you can put in later version Kodi but not OpenElec, you have to wait until its updated, but its 15.2 anyway - latest release version :-)

Perhaps we can ask kszaq to put back the default 001122334455 Ethernet address that he removed with these newer OpenElec versions, that would then hopefully override the issue of stable MAC/IP address. Its a bit hit and miss. With some bootloaders its stable, with others its not. I thought it was stable though with the 2015_09_15 Android bootloader - and we are just using this image to get the bootloader by the way, I am not saying its the best Android image for the MXQ_A box, its not as its not the stock for this box, its just got better power-off handling than the stock version.

yeah its not for my box, was wondering if there was an option to update in the menus. 15.2 isn't very good been tolf to update to 16 for my paid add on

Yes, ain't I brave!? Well it was that or the bin and it wasn't quite as stressful as I thought it would be especially as you only need the one cable plugged in, USB to the laptop. I just touched the Nand chip pins, in between, and the lappy just picked it up. Don't think it's too risky and if hard-bricked there is no other option as far as I could figure.

@jed Yes I installed that ROM and the openE 6.01.1 and it all seems OK. Don't think it's powering off my USB sticks though and I'm not sure about the MAC address, I'll get back to you on that

                                IMPORTANT NOTE TO ALL
I did notice that with the update I did above the system/kodi back up was causing problems with the ethernet and wifi connections, same problem I had before no time data and after hard reboot no wifi. I therefore reinstalled and set my addons etc up from scratch and it all seems much better. Not sure if this is an OpenE bug or a corrupt backup. So if all seems to work before you reinstall a back up then you might want to reinstall OE or do a soft reset and see if that sorts the problem. Hoping I don't have to set up all my addons each time I update!
