Actually they posted links to the source they started working on. But the referred git repository doesn't have any committed changes other than the initial uploads. No modifications to the kernel are published according to my knowledge.
So as I said it might just be a misunderstanding of 2dark4u's post where he says, he modified 5000 lines of code. I don't know, do You?
But as I said I might not use the kernel source for anything. But sometimes it is just interesting to see what the solution of certain problems is.

Well I'm waiting with baited breath for this, is ether0 correct in his complaint sources have not been made available, or in fact have there been no kernel changes and/or sources have been posted.

Of course its quite possible ether0 has just been a little bit to assertive in requesting said sources and finless/2dark just a little remiss in the speed of getting sources up and available.

Biggest cliffhanger for me since I had to decide what to have on my toast for tea last night.

Confirmed working on the MK802 III

Hi guys let me start by saying a big thank you to Finless Bob and 2Dark4u for this excellent rom, if it weren’t for your tireless efforts most of us with Android mini pc sticks would be stuck with buggy manufacturer firmwares. Great job and keep up the good work!

I received my MK802 III from geekbuying about 3-4 weeks ago and while initially quite impressed with it (using stock manufactures firmware) I started to notice some of its major short comings after only a few days, which were

          Cons
Unable to display 720p or 1080p correctly.
Only a very limited Android market available.
No way to hide the status bar at bottom of screen.
No way to reboot the MK802.3 had to pull out the power lead every time.
Device would randomly lock-up/reboot from time to time (even with 2amp 5volt charger)
Device sold as up to 1.6Mhz CPUwhen in-fact it wont go above 1 - 1.2Mhz.
Couldn’t adjust the CPU clock above1.2 Mhz even after rooting the device.

One of the major problems I was expecting was poor wifi but I needen't have worried at all.

          Pros
WiFi working great, good speeds and rock solid connection. (only on a non secured ssid, ie no wpa/wpa2 security, in fact no security at all! Otherwise it wouldn’t connect)
I used mac address filtering on my wireless router and set it up so only the MK802 III could connect to it. Speedtest.net shows the mini pc stick as maxing out my Virgin media internet connection at 30Mbps download and 4Mbps upload, no problems streaming 720p MKV movies from my NAS over wifi.
I only tried one 1080p clip which was a 2 minute MP4 trailer of the new bond film streamed from my NAS wirelessly again no problems at all. I use MX player for all my media content as it does hardware acceleration on HiDef material.

          Benchmarking
AnTuTu score on stock geekbuying firmware/rom was 5400, not to bad but noting special tbh.

So after a few weeks using the stock ROM I decided to have a look online to see if there are any custom ROM's for this mini pc stick, that’s when I came across Freaktab.com and this ROM which is advertised for the UG802 mini pc.

As far as I could work out the UG802 is basically the same as theMK802 III in terms of its internal hardware so I decided to take achance and flash it to the MK802 III.

I download the ROM and followed Bob's excellent instructions in the read me to flash it onto my MK802 III using the 'ROM FlashTool' provided in the download.
The whole flashing procedure went smoothly without any issues and only took a few minutes to complete.

I first tried the 1080pp kernel and boot image:
          kernel_1080_CPU1272_GPU466_RAM1120.img
          boot1080.img

Wow what a difference it makes to the home screen, every app icon looks pin sharp albeit a little on the small side with small hard to read icon labels, this of course is to be expected at 1080p and couldeasily be solved by using 'GO launcher ex' and customising the size of the icons/labels.

          Pros
          1080p resolution
          Full Android Market
Can now hide the status bar manually
          Rom comes rooted
Can now raise or lower the CPU speeds between 252Mhz and 1275Mhz
          Rock solid WiFi performance
          Reboot option now available
720p MKV stream fine over wireless network from my nas
1080p MP4 streams fine from my nas (bond film trailer)

          Cons
Quite laggy when dragging apps around on the home screen
The status bar can be difficult to bring back after hiding it withthe down arrow, sometimes it just refuses to pop up again after hiding it (have to reboot)

          Benchmark
Antutu score with this kernel and boot img is 8300 (max 1272Mhz min252Mhz interactive)

Due to the lag on the home screen and small icons/text I decided to flash the 720p image

          Flashed Mk802 III with:
          kernel_720_CPU1272_GPU466_RAM1120.img
          boot720.img

Perfect looking home screen, apps and text are now much easier to read and still look very sharp even at the lower resolution, also the lag that I was experiencing on the 1080p rom has completely gone, infact its very quick indeed when scrolling from one screen to the next or going into or out of the app draw. This rom not only looks great but feels very fast as well.

          Pros
          720p resolution (ideal for me)
          Very fast
          Rock solid WiFi
CPU can be adjusted from 252Mhz to 1275Mhz
          Comes Rooted
Streams everything I have thrown at it from my nas over wifi(720pMKV,MP4,H264)
No lip-synk, no lag or stutter on HD 720p material using MX Playerwith H/W decoding on

          Cons
Errr... It shows a boot screen for the UG802 instead of the MK802 III
Seriously I cant think of any faults with it!

          Benchmark
Antutu score 10125 (min 252 max 1272 interactive)
Antutu score 10484 (min 1272 max 1272 performance)

          XBMC
Runs fine on any of these roms, just make sure you install a modified NEON version which can be found over at XDA developers and use MX player as the default player from within XBMC. I wont go into detail as this has been covered many times, I did try the new Frodo beta2 build and as far as I know no version has been modified yet to use MX player as the default player. I did notice that the new Frodo build is very quick in the menus and at pulling up and switching various fan art images as well as having PVR/Live TV menu available

I know this ROM was made for the UG802 but it runs very well on theMK802 III.
The 720p version is my favourite as it offers superb speed, features and overall reliability, I have been using it for two days now without any issues.

Sorry for going on lol but well done finless Bob and 2dark4u on this fantastic rom !

ok about my problem with sound
            i tested my ug802 using kernel_720_CPU1272_GPU466_RAM1120.img
            with following
native power adapter - sound cracks on youtube audio, tunein stream & mx player audio both s/w & h/w decoder
iphone power adapter - same as above
ipad power adapter - no problem except little sound cracks when use mx player with s/w decoder.
so problems are not def. hdmi cables ! device need more juice
            that's it.

i had a thought about the sound issues. usually amplifiers work best at a mid range setting. maybe trying to turn the sound on the ug802 down a click or two and compensating by turning the tv volume up may help with sound crackling.

i know what you mean, but this is not case here

Agreed, it really needs a minimum of 2 amps 5 volts in order for it to work well, the more amps you give it the better i think.

Can you plug the UG802 directly into your TV thus eliminating the HDMI cable? if you can try it and see if it performs any better with your ipad charger.

Maybe the item in the link below might help, a right angled female to male HDMI adaptor

                          Audio passthrough

First of all, Finless and 2dark4u, thanks a lot the great kernel you guy have whipped up!! I'm looking forward to the hw acceleration driver which is taking shape!

But i have a question: will it ever be possible to enable audio pass-through, without downmixing? What has to be done to enable this feature?

And maybe: is it possible to resize icons and text, because although images and videos look fantastic, often text is quite hard to read.

Amazing ROM from Finless and 2dark4u

I just have to say what a world of difference this ROM makes for this little device. When I initially booted up this device prior to the flash, needless to say I was unimpressed and didn't like GUI. I was a bit confused with the installation procedures, but when I figured out that when my TV was showing no signal and the device's blue LED was still lit, that I was indeed where I needed to be: in Flash Mode. Once I got through the rest of the steps without a hiccup and saw the posts on this thread of other user having problems with sound in the 1080p kernal, I chose the 720p 12something kernal with the 720 boot.img(forgot to change the partition to 2GB but oh well...) and when it fired back up with the new launcher I was ecstatic about having basically a tablet on my TV. I have been playing with it whenever I get the chance, and was just wondering if anyone else has experienced the same issues with on-screen sizing: like in Memedroid images and votes for comments are extended beyond the borders, and on 3d bowling there are white areas on both sides of the lane you bowl on. Has anyone else had size/format issues with other apps?

Thank you Finless Bob and 2dark4u, expect a donation right after I finish Posting!

Yup, most apps aren't optimized for Hi-res. Nothing that can be done.
