i can not so much contribute here because of my english and also I am a beginner with Android, sorry

my Device is MK808 with antenna Mode (both antennas are external)

today I tested a fresh install of 1.7a on speedtest.net
    Ping=22ms Down=11,1 Mbps Up=2,11Mbps

after that I flashed to 1.6
didnt made something else and tried to keep antennas in same direction
    Ping=10ms Down= 19.75Mbps Up=8,77Mbps

I must confess that I stay at the moment with 1.6 even I love 1.7 more

Thank you for your work Bob!!!

OK let me look at this yet again. Might be boot.img.

OK I think I figured it out!

1.6 used a kernel from Oct 2012. 1.7a is using kernel from Jan 10, 2013!

So seems like this is a kernel issue. Hang tight I am going do more testing.

However if some of you would like to help, pleas take the kernel.img from 1.6 and flash it with 1.7 system.

        Thanks,
        Bob

what happens if you separate the 808 and the router or disconect one of you externa antennas??

mine gets good speed when I keep them at least 1.5m appart, under 1.5m the speed i verry low.

          thats on 1.7a

Tomorrow i will TRY to test with kernel.img and also with antennas.

                WIFI speed problem solving!

OK, I am pretty sure it's the new kernel but I am getting some inconsistant results myself using speedtest.

With the October kernel I get consistant results. With the new Jan 10 kernel I do not. So something is going on with this new kernel.

Now let me just say this. My ISP (Roadrunner) CAPS my download speed to about 4300kbps. So testing for me of full rate is almost impossible using speed test APP.

But with the October kernel that is in my 1.6 ROM, I always get the MAX download speed my ISP allows. With the Jan 10 kernel, sometimes I do get MAX and sometimes not. In fact most the time not! But sometimes after a reboot, it will go full speed for me. So for sure there is some inconsistency with this Jan 10 kernel.

So with that said, I need you guys that are having wifi speed problems to HELP ME, HELP YOU!
We need to get this resolved as I want you guys to enjoy my 1.7 ROM.

Here is the Oct 2012 kernel. Now one problem is you cannot just flash kernels alone. Well at least I cannot. If I just change kernels, I get boot problems and all kind of force close on system APPS and framework. So sorry to tell you, to change kernels you must erase nand and flash the full ROM. This is better anyway for testing of this problem!

                Instructions:
                1) In my 1.7a ROM kit go into the FinlessROM folder. Rename kernel720.img to kernel720.old
                2) Download the October kernel.img (link below).
                3) This is not zipped so just copy kernel720.img into the FinlessROM folder in the 1.7a ROM kit
                4) Reboot to bootloader (flash mode) or whatever you do to get into flash mode (reset button etc).
                5) Run the flash tool and erase NAND
                6) Flash the ROM.

You will now boot with the October kernel and my 1.7a ROM. To confirm go into settings>about device.
You will see kernel version is Oct 27. System will be 1.7a.

Now please try your speed tests. Also please reboot once and try it again. We need consistant testing.

Here is the download link to Kernel Oct 27.

NOTE: This is only for the MK808 Original not the 808B or clones! None of them have this problem which is why I suspect the new MK808 kernel!

Thanks! testing it now, but I assume you mean, rename it to kernel.img? as there is no other kernel720.img on the folder, only boot720.img

edit: initial tests seem to be good, I will kep testing it and rebooting and will keep you updated!

Bob's theory and observations with kernels may explain why I've experienced no wifi problems with 1.6 to 1.7. I've used Omegamoon's kernel with Finless' ROMs.

                          unfortunately, no, still the same

                          would logs help?

I can create one from 1.6, and doing the exact same steps on 1.7 and see if that helps?

I am thinking this for the steps:

1.- set up correct time zone
                          2.- set up wifi
                          3.- set up account
                          4.- open market
5.- try to download youtube app
6.- play a video on youtube (the same video)

I can do that and provide logs.

here is what I have tried so far.

                          this equals in slow speed:
                          1.7 no mods
                          1.7 with system.img updated (1.7a)
                          1.7a with everything except system.img from 1.6
                          1.7a with 2dark4u kernel
1.7a with updated kernel from you

this will give me a bootlop so I can't properly test it
                          1.7a with omegamoon kernel (bootloop)
                          1.7a with Kizs kernel

this gives me GREAT wifi speed:
                          1.5
                          1.6
                          latest stock rom from geekbuying

I want to add that my MK808 is in the exact same position, everything is exactly the same except for the rom, so unless I am missing something, I do not think that it is a hardware issue (could it be?)
my router is about 1.5m away from my mk808 I cannot move it any further away since the cables are so short

but the wifi signal always says "excellent" and connection is at 54mbs

right now I am going to test to install just system.img from 1.7a and the rest of the stuff from the stock ROM will get back at you with this

                            Bricked?

                            Bob,

Let me first tell you how awesome this is. I am pretty sure this will put FreakTab on the map!

I wonder if I bricked my MK808.... I accidentally flashed finless 1.7 for N101 on my device. After trying to boot up, I realized the mistake and went ahead with erasing NAND and flashing all but recovery (which I use for Picuntu recovery) from Finless 1.7 for MK808.

Trying to boot now results in nothing. Is the device bricked? Can it be recovered? Do I need to flash recovery as well? The device is still recognized by the flashing tool, which I think is a good sign.

No change with old kernel and 1.7a still slow close to router and increased speed when I put them some distance apart.
