MK808B clones, how to identify them.

So far as I know there are 3 versions of this stick (Let's hope the Chinese do not complicate the matter more and launch more). Each with its own ROM, if you use the ROM of a models in another one, usually it works but you will lose the functionality of wifi and BT, so please try to identify your device before flash any rom.

To recognize there is no other choice but to open it, (Do it careful, dont break the wifi antenna), there is not so much problem to open it, can be done easy.

Lets go with the first one, it is usually called in the Forums mk808b "original" or "genuine, it has wifi and BT chipset rk903. My device is this one.

This model also has a variant that also works with the same ROM:

    ROMS:
    Official stock one from geekbuying:
    MK808B Geekbuying
Recommended, for me at least better than the stock one and added extras such as gamepads, some ethernet adapters, tweaks, etc:
    Freaktab MK808B
    More ROMS:
    Armtvtech MK808B
In the last page pls ensure you choose Room for the "original" not "fake".

The second variant is known in many forums as mk808b "fake" or clone mk808b V1. Comes with MediaTek chipset for wifi and BT.

    ROMs:
    Stock rom:
Armtvteck mk808b clone v1 Stock rom
Made by Finless in freaktab, for me better than the stock one, it has tweaks and aditional modules like gamepads, etc... :
    Freaktab clone V1 ROM

The 3º Version for now of this device is know how "clone V2" or "Sunvel V2 Clone" is very similar to the above and also uses a MediaTek chipset for wifi and BT (I am not sure of this), but the previous ROM device does not work fully.
Some people report feeding problems through the usb designed for that, having to feed them in some cases through the usb OTG:

    ROMs disponibles:
    Link official ROM:
    mk808B clone V2
And the ROM that Bob made for us in this forum, in my opinion always better than the stock one :
    Freaktab mk808b clone V2

All the info getting from: Freaktab; armtvtech and Vondroid.

If you have any question ask. If anyone can complete this post pls tell me, I only have the first stick so any help would be aprreciated by the others models owners.

Thanks to TecKnight, he said me that the pictures was changued about second and 3º clones now i think they are well .

And thanks to Zuberio too, he post a video in youtube openning the mk808B case :

Wow! Thank you for this post!

Can I ask a favor? Can you post links to these posts you have made for the FAQ? e.g. post in the FAQ thread links to your informational posts you have made. I wont be able to keep track of these things later when I put the FAQ together.

    Thanks,
    Bob

        Leolas,
Thanks for pointing me to the right image for my Sunvel clone.
For the record, my SunVel clone does not have a heat sink at all for the processor.
Here is my SunVel sans Heat sink.

I haven't had any wifi or bluetooth issues with it either since installing Bob's Finless ROM.
        Thanks, Bob !!

Thanks for the report, I will add your image to the post if you give me permission to do that. Then you use the Sunvel V2 clone Rom by Finless? Ir seems more similar to clone V1.
          Thanks for your collaboration.

Yes, you have my full permission. Yes, I used Bob's Sunvel 1.6 ROM. I understand Bob now has a beta that is designed to work on several different MK802 models, including the SunVel ?

I am pretty certain that this is the original SunVel firmware:

Despite my device having exactly the same Mediatek WiFi and BT chipset as several other devices, my Bluetooth would only turn on with Bob's SunVel clone image and the image above.
WiFi worked fine, but not bluetooth.
One other thing. Although it is partially obscured on my image, the label on the board actually says:
              SunVel 1808
Not 808 as I have seen posted.
The exact chips on the daughterboard are:
              MT6622N - Bluetooth 3.0
              MT5931SA - WIFI B/G/N

Watch that has no heatsink on the processor, currently there is not custom ROMs that can make up the speed of the CPU, but if you try one be careful with overclocking on it.

                Leolas,
Now I see the issue. You have the images reversed. If you look closely and the second image of what you are calling the clone V1, it says SunVel 1808 on the board. That is the same board that I have. The last 2 images in your post are actually the clone V1.

Do you have BT? Is 808 clone? Or 808b?.
                  Thanks for the info

I have the SunVel 1808, which is the 3rd known MK808-B device.
The first is the original, with the Broadcomm chipset, the model you received.
The second is the one commonly referred to as the "fake" 808 or V1 clone.
It uses a daughterboard with the 2 Mediatek chips on it and it has a heat sink on the processor.
The third MK808-B is the one with SunVel 1808 printed on the main board.
It also has a daughterboard with the 2 Mediatek chips on it, but it has no heat sink on the processor.
Despite having seemingly identical hardware to the V1 clone, the SunVel 1808 board is not fully compatible with the V1 clone image. Specifically, bluetooth will not turn on when running the V1 image.
To be honest with you, I don't believe any of the devices are actually "clones" or fakes. I think they are just MK808-B models produced at different factories that had different resources available at the time.
Maybe they only had a certain quantity of Broadcomm chips available and had to find an alternative, I am not sure. The cases and packaging are identical across all 3 models. If a company was trying to make an inferior copy of a MK808-B, would they spend all the time and effort making the packaging indistinguishable from the original ? No, I believe they would make a cheap, half assed copy of the packaging, saving a few more $$.
I actually believe that the engineer that designed the SunVel did a much better job of isolating the wifi and bluetooth antennas, especially compared to the V1. My wifi and bluetooth connectivity and speed are uniformly excellent. I actually feel like I made out pretty well.. Once I installed Bob's Finless on the device, it has been solid as a rock.

Yes, seems so, i dont like to call them fakes, causes it sounds really bad, and they are as good like the first launched and maybe better. Then I must changue imgs from 2 to 3?. I will do when I will be in the pc, in tapatalk is a pain to edit imgs

Great post Leolas - really helped me out. I made a YouTube video of me opening up what turned out to be a genuine MK808B. Hope you like it

I've ordered the non-B at geekbuying and my stick looks different than the original 808 but not like a clone. It looks like the B version but has no BT sign/button.

Which Stick do I have? (1.6 & 1.7 Beta for non B works)

If it is working with the mk808 roms, and wifi works, then you have a a mk808. If you install a mk808b Rom you will lose wifi.
