The s905 has full 8 and 10 bit HEVC hardware support. You need a t.v. that can display 10bit color. The current offerings without HDMI 2.0 port is a joke in my book. I suspect there are many out there like me that will not touch 4k for a long time making the MXIII-G for my use viable for a long time.

Apparently, most s905 boxes do have HDMI 2.0 the new Beelink Mini also has Gb Ethernet. Low prices and additional features make the new boxes appealing for those looking ahead to 4k.
Yeah I figured it was an overheating issue - Antutu is designed to push all components to their max, hardly a reflection of real world use (even less relevent wrt openelec, as it chews a fraction of the resources android requires - This was why I thought I'd test the higher speed using the hotplug scheduler (Theory being, 2-3 cores occasionally peaking at 1.9Ghz would be less stressful than 4 cores running constantly @ 1.6Ghz) - Ideally, all the heavy duty processing is passed off to dedicated silicon (mali, etc), so the CPU should rarely if at all have to crank all 4 cores to their maximum clock speed.

I'm much the same wrt to the s905 - My "newest" TV is about 5yo, & they all play back my library exceptionally well, with a little help from openelec - While I have little interest in 4k or the latest fad's in TV, my hope is that the improvements required to cater for this newer display technology, filters down to improve the quality of the display tech I do use

As far as my work on the MX3g is concerned, I really am just "standing on the shoulders of giants" here - I only offered up my builds to fill the gap until it got officially supported by one of the openelec/amlogic regulars (considering the bang/buck value of the MX3G, I actually thought this would have already happened) - I will continue to do this until this does occur, or I reach tweak nirvana with this box (yeah, right - The people who deserve a beer are the ones that made my minor tweaking possible (codesnake, kszac, kerber, etc) - My take home for this is that I've been able to expand my knowledge/understanding of the entire Goog TV/Openelec eco system

Was wondering if someone could help me here. I have a MXQ S812 with square remote. For the life of me I can not get this remote to work in recovery. None of the buttons I push will navigate through the menu. Can't even choose OK to reboot the box. I never used the square remote before so not sure if there is something I need to so to set it up. I've always used the round remote for the M8

      Thanks

Update: I had to put the usb dongle in first before I booted into recovery to be able to use the keyboard. Remote won't work at all.

After I flashed 5.95.5.2 rom that Kerber just built. My box won't even turn on at all. I have not idea what happened now. I can't even boot into recovery. All I get is the little blue light on the front of the box.

I did waiting on a response. And since I'm a member here and seeing a lot of knowledgable members here. I figured maybe I can get some suggestions here.

From the looks of it. Looks like the box is bricked now. Now I'm trying to do some search on how to fix it. Was thinking to maybe try the short circuit pin fix.

I flashed with sdcard. Loaded up through recover and it installed fine. But after reboot it wouldn't turn back on again. Just the small blue light on the front side of the box is lite. Can't boot into recovery anymore, clock on the box doesn't come me on. And continuous no signal displayed on the TV screen.

Not sure why but the box wouldn't flash unless i was already in recovery and then chose ext > sdcard. Wouldn't load if I did toothpick method with sdcard installed in box first.

I guess I could try an android rom and see if it'll read it without going into recovery first. I'll have to try that tomorrow when I get up. Thanks for the suggestion, didn't even consider that since I seen it wouldn't even go into recovery.

I was just reading about that. Never tried it because I always did the normal toothpick. Thanks I'll give that a try. I'll look for the stock firmware. It's the metal box M!10.

What I've found is that kodi appears slightly slower, but navigation is smoother, movie playback also appears a little smoother - If anyone would like to test this (via ssh openelc command prompt):

                        nano .config/autostart.sh
                        paste this into the file:
                        ---snip---
                        #!/bin/sh

                        echo hotplug >/sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_governor
                        echo 1992000 >/sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_max_freq
                        ---snip---
                        chmod 755 .config/autostart.sh

                        reboot

I'm think of making this the default for my next build (I've got a few more corner case files to test first

If anyone else has any good tweaks for the MX3G or the S812 in general, please let me know - I do believe that openelec on the MX3G can be optimised far more than it currently is - I just don't understand the S812 that well, & the hardcore documentation for it is mostly in Chinese (Goog translate only helps so much
                        Hi there wilro

Im testing these settings and i can confirm that kodi in playback seems a little bit smoother but also the UI is slower . On x264 it's better on x265 seems not so good, ill test some more with x265 content and report back. it's an improvment over x264 no doubt. Thanks

There is only a different logo on top of the box, Tronsmart may have customize a boot screen but the hardware is the same. There is a Beelink MXIII Plus 2gb that has a different WiFi chip AP6535 which includes AC.
Thanks for checking - Yeah couldn't find any real difference between the MX3G L4 rom & the Tronsmart MXIII Plus L6, so in theory, my mx3g rom should work fine on it - Shouldn't be too hard to add the extra firmware for the AP6535 if there is any interest.

Thanks for testing - I've ran with this config for the last 8hrs straight (various video/audio, but nothing x265) - It appears to run fine, with no excessive temperatures/crashes - The x265 thing makes no sense to me however - I would think the CPUs would be less strained handling x265 content - Could you tell me the specs (res. file size. audio/video encoding) of one of the files (both audio sync prob & poor x265 playback) - I'm bound to have similar files here (I digitised my old Video cassettes back in the 90's - I thought I had a pretty good selection of oddly encoded stuff to pick from for testing purposes...

Is the Openelec addon repository working with this build for anyone? I can't get it to do anything other than provide information, i.e. using the context menu. I cannot launch/configure/update. The reason I ask is I am trying to get live tv working with vdr (using a usb tuner that is supported in linux). I can't download the vdr-addon although I have read that it is rolled into Openelec (?) I don't appear to have any backend to use with the vdr ansi client.

I'm a real noob with this stuff. I tried a few different OpenElec zip files I found and none loaded correctly. I think I'm doing something wrong. Can you please outline the zip file installation process?

-How do I need to prep the Micro SD Card? Fat32?
                                - Do I Unzip the file directly to the Micro SD card or do I just copy the zip to the card?

I managed to get the recovery process started. It saw the SDCard via the toothpick method but my card must not have been prepared correctly. It complained about not mounting /tmp/cache or something similar, I should have noted the errors more carefully.
