The file I thought I loaded was:

    Tronsmart MXIII Plus_106L1 SDcard_151029

As I said I thought I was going back to Android but it booted into a Tronsmart branded Openelec with a fully working PVR extension. I put the sd card back in a bag with a a bunch of others. I'm going to have to search through tt and see what is one the card I used.

Well this is really strange. I found the card I used and it has Tronsmart MXiii Plus_106L1 SDcard_15029 on it. I don't want to reload because I'm happy with I got. Have you tried the file to see what you get?

You've got me curious also, as I had a look at this rom when it was first posted, & it definately IS an android rom - Easy way to tell:

        Go to System->Openelec-> About

This will tell you what version of openelec is actually installed/running

Well this explains a bit..sort of. I'm running 9.95.5. I'm still really confused. When I loaded that the first time, the PVR functions didn't work. Then I started to unzip the OpenElec 6.0 version on my computer, but that turned out to be an image which I would need to use the AMlogic USB burning tool. So then I decided to try the Tronsmart MXiii Plus link form above. I erased the SD card and copied the new files on to the card. When I did the toothpick thing it didn't autoload the files like the first time. Instead it went into the recovery menu and I navigated to the SDCard and selected the image. It opened up through a few steps and eventually got to a zip file that I selected.

When it booted up I had the Openelect with the PVR extensions. Maybe I was just reloading the 5.95.5 again, but this time it was a complete install?

Sounds like you only only upgraded the u-boot code in the box - When I flashed the new tronsmart rom on my MX3G (had to use the usb writing tool) & then switched back to openelec, I still got "Tronsmart" logo on power up, which then changed to the Openelec logo and booted as normal - I wonder if there is any advantage to tronsmart's boot vs the the native MX3G's (They are pretty much identical boxes, afterall

OK, looks like the MX3G has been merged into Kerber's git tree, so we should see MX3G builds on http://amlinux.ru/image/6.0.0/ in the not too distant future - I have put together a new build which is mostly OE 6.0.0 here:

This needs to be installed using the "toothpick" method, as due to changes in the update procedure, my previous builds won't upgrade to this version correctly (however, using the .tar files to *downgrade* to previous builds *does* work

There are still a few warts in this OE 6 build that I haven't tracked down yet, but it does (try) to fix a number of issues/niggles in my previous builds. (Keep the previous build handy! You have been warned!)

The main differences between my build & Kerber's current git is the "power off" patch, & my preference for the power button to shutdown OE rather than suspend (The former will no doubt be addressed in due course, whereas the later will probably keep me making my own builds for a while

I see MXIII-G files listed there now. There is a .tar and two.zip files one them an update all with the same date. Can you explain why the three files and how people are using these files? Thanks again for your efforts.

Not really sure what use the "-update.zip" file is for - It just boot an interactive recovery, much like android, you can wipe data/cache partitions etc. I have the same files with my builds, I just don't upload them (My poor internet link takes forever as it is with just the tar & zip files

Looks like it could be another week before my box shows up. 😞 I updated the zotac 2957u Openelec box to version 6. Everything works captions for live tv, hevc, streaming etc. I could replace all my xbox 360s with this box. I hope in the future the MXIII-G can work just as well.

Loaded up the 5.7 (thanks wilro) and all the basics seem to work ok. Loaded The Beast and now consistently get blackouts/small resets (my TV tells me the HDMI input has gone off and then on) when moving through sub menus within add-ons. This behaviour was not present when i was running Android/Kodi/The Beast, it works really well.
Now I know The Beast has a bazillion addons and settings so its a matter of going through them or go to 5.5 and see what happens. I found The Beast a good way to try out addons and note the plugins i like, i hope to make myself an addon build so i can do some boxes for friends and family.

just thought i would report on my experiences and again thanks Wilro.

                        Howdy Guys,

Sorry I've been a bit quiet here lately - I've been trying to track down some rather annoying behaviour with this box:

                        1. Overheating/heat problems - Once the box hits the 60+ degrees mark, I'm seeing sporadic behaviour (wifi 2/5ghz stop, playback picture quality degrades/locks up, ssh crashes, etc)
                        2. CPUFREQ doesn't behave, possibly contributing to the overheating issue - ONDEMAND pegs all 4 CPU cores to max ( 1608000hz), & never changes, the HOTPLUG scheduler only uses 2 out of the 4 CPU cores (but DOES scale up/down as expected), resulting also in degraded playback quality, & occasional lockups
                        3. Audible "clicking" every few minutes when sitting in Kodi's menu system, with an occasional very loud one.

I use NFS+Mysql to access resources across 3 different amlogic based devices, the other 2 units don't appear to exhibit any of these problems (MXQ-S85 + OTT all-black MXQ), it only happens with the MX3G. Admittedly, the MX3G behaves far better through the Gigabit lan port, rather than wifi, however, still exhibit's picture quality degradation when it hit's high temperatures (quality is pretty much restored for a while if I stop playback, reboot & resume).

I have tweaked 100+ options/recompiles since my last release, none of which has conclusively addressed the above 3 problems I'm seeing - I'm curious as to what others are seeing?

I don't make use of many kodi plugins personally, & really only use it to access my own media library - I had planned on looking into plugin related issues, however the above issues take priority (I also don't want any rogue plugins interfering/skewering my ability to track down the above problems

Hi there! Do you know any openelec image for USBBURN? I can't reach my bootloader anymore (it's a very good stance compared to two days ago, when it was bricked ) Thanks

Have you considered opening up the m3g's case and having a small fan blow over the CPU heatsink? This could help dramaticlly imo, I should have my M3G within the next 2 days so I hope this isn't a problem I will have but if it is, I wonder if it is possibly to mount a small fan inside the case connected to the boxes power???? not sure about that but it would be a cool mod!

I have my unit now. Using Android, I am not seeing heat issues or lockups. Unfortunately, the pvr plugin pvr.wmc is not working in one way or another with all versions of Kodi I have tried. I will attempt Openelec when I get time.

                                Hi Kozzito,

Not aware of any Openelec usbburn images - Safest bet is to use one of the Lolllipop images to restore device functionality (I use MXIII-G_101L1.img), then toothpick/sdcard flash OE. I've had to do this more times than I can remember due to near-bricking my device
