Hey all was wondering if any of you could point me in the direction of an openelec rom for this "mxq" box. I normally deal with rpi2 and openelec but a friend asked me to see "what I can do with this pos" in his own words lol
It won't let me upload a pic of the board but it says
    HD18Q_V1.0 and dated 2014/08/18
It's a square board with a quarter of it cut away if that makes sense. When it loads up it has a mbox splash screen and it has a tile like launcher, think windows 8, Other then that I don't have much more info sorry

Many thanks and all the best

    Paul

If I remain as Android.Does Openelek overwrites recovery? What for? Can I restore Anroid with help of recovery in case of a problem?

                      Hi There
I have the same board in the all black mxq. I have successfully run Kasz's Openelec with this board.
Very important i know which remote control you have (see pics). If you have the remote on the left use the HD 18Q Builds.
If you have the remote on the right of the picture use the MXQ Arm Builds. I have the same board as you but i have the remote on the right with the raised buttons. I run the MXQ Build 6.0.0.1 nand and it works great except wifi is very SLOW which has always been the case whatever system i've run.(rubbish chip) Power ethernet adapters are cheap. The blue button always stays on. Reboot and Clean Shut down working.

Just got one of these delivered from amazon.....

                        MQX V2.0 S805
                        Rom is MXQ V2.0
                        Board is M201D
                        Working firmware is http://chinagadgetsreviews.blogspot....itkat-442.html
Comes with a December 2015 kernel and build number
Openelec either HD18Q or MXQ wont boot and will brick box, however it might be possible to stitch in the bootloader from the above image.

The inside board just states MXQ v2.0 but if you checck with CPU-z it states the board is m201d

Hi I have the box on the right here. MXQ build works with remote and wifi (latest 6.0 from Kasz). I was looking into the led patch this morning, the led is probably hooked up to another gpio pin than the one defined in the patch? This could be easily solved by probing the kernel at runtime (try to toggle gpio pins and see if led goes on or off).

Wifi worked really well in my original android stock rom, I was able to stream hd video without any issues. However now the chip is detected but very laggy. Not sure what the cause is of this problem. I could try to add some other drivers and see if that works.

I understand the gpio is hooked up differently to Kasz's Openelec. I am lost when you say probing the Kernel at runtime? and try to toggle gpio pins ?
I need to know the steps as i don't understand the steps to do this.

My original stock Android rom only suspended when the light went off. The box would not completely turn off. The wifi was very slow with original rom.
I am glad your wifi was fast with original Android rom as this gives me hope that the wifi chip can work.

I see pigbait has same box (http://freaktab.com/forum/tv-player-...126#post552126) and talks about the wifi module.

Yes I by going through the gpio in sysfs one could try to figure out to which pin the led is hooked. Maybe also by extracting the dts file from the working image (at least if it's not binary). Did you check your antenna position in the media player? Sometimes these wifi antennas are in the worst place which causes signal drop and bad connectoins. I fixed that in a mk809 stick eg by moving the antena to another place (like 90 degrees tilted from the pcb and away from any metal shielding). This increased the performance significantly.

In my case the antenna should be ok as everything worked well with the original rom. I also saw the patch for the led in the source so it doesn't look that hard to modify. Maybe when inspecting the pcb one can get a visual clue on which gpio the led is attached (by looking at the traces and pinout of the soc)

Is there any one click root apps that can root mxq s805 please I really want to root my TV box please.
I'm fine with stock rom but I would really like root and custom recovery, any help on this would be greatly appreciated thanks in advance.
