        Thank you very much.

Unfortunately the problem is still there,so the issue is within the new firmware.

I was able to flash TWRP though and had it come up on screen.

The only thing that didn't work on those that I tried was mounting of the partitions.

My understanding of a locked bootloader (which could be wrong) is that when locked, you can't even flash a recovery image without bricking the machine.

What was your installation procedure to get the test rom onto the device? Or how would I flash the stock rom back?

I tried to install xposed without recovery (using a tool called flashfire) and after it rebooted past the bootanimation it got stuck on a black screen and then rebooted. Is now stuck on animation, won't boot.

I'd appreciate some instruction to reinstall the stock firmware or the test rom

I just flashed the recovery image, without having to flash a whole firmware.

General instructions here to give you an idea.

              http://www.cnx-software.com/2014/08/...roid-tv-boxes/

Then you will need is the flash tool, which you can get here.

Then a Male A to Male A USB cable.

You will have to boot the box in bootloader mode, which to date I have done from a reboot app but as you are essentially bricked then you will need the manual method, which I have not attempted with this particular box.

First I always get the software tool up and running with the firmware loaded ready to flash and plug the USB cable into the PC (USB 2.0 port).

Now generally you need to insert a toothpick (I use the inside of a pen) into the AV hole to press in the reset button and whilst holding it, insert the USB cable and power into the box.

When the android tool shows that it has found the box, then hit the upgrade button to start the process (I often erase the flash beforehand just to be sure, although not always necessary).

As far as Xposed is concerned, on a box with these specs I would not bother as it will use up resources and make the box slower in operation and quite likely not as pleasant an experience.

Did any of the recoveries you were able to flash allow you to flash a .zip file? If so. I could attempt the xposed.uninstaller.zip before having to factory restore.

I had a Nexus Player with similar hardware specs that ran xposed just fine. I'm really just interested in a few modules. YouTube Ad blocker being one and YouTube background playback being another. Flat Style Colored Bars. Off the top of my had, that's all. And I don't imagine those would hurt the resources too hard.

No, all were plain image files for flashing with the Android tool.

I do think that you will find the Xposed module alone will likely use up enough resource to make the box run slow but I'm sure that at some point we can find out.

Best option for getting a compatible Xposed framework may be to ask on XDA.

Yes these devices have alot locked stuff makes it hard to change. To check to see if actually locked. Someone change partitions to be use as unified storage. You will find it will not take. This is why only supercelleron try to help device. But even he say it go much a pain to work with because everything locked up.

This one already has unified storage but I might play around with the partitions and see if I can change them.

This is the firmware revision that came on the D5 that works better than the update.

Is that supposed to be a link to a file?
I still need to restore mine to try and get it working again.

Frustrating to soft brick your new toy just a day or 2 after getting it lol

If that is in fact intended to be a link to a file, I would use rkbatcktools to flash it?

                            No, not a link.

Just the revision information that I originally have.

I'm waiting for Gearbest to see if they can get a copy of it.

Until then, the one posted by Blinkone (or my debloated version of it) is the only available flashable revision for now.

Failing that, if there is somebody that is still using the original version then there is a tool that can be used to dump the firmware.

Which rk_xxxxx flash tool or batchtool(as I formally knew it) would you recommend? I see multiple variants available. And I'm not sure of the drawback/aadvantages of using on of the other

This one that I have used in the past and also used to test a dump of the latest version directly from the box.
