I am new in this thread and this is my first post and hope i will get help from the grus, i need help regarding how to root "Matricom G-box Midnight MX2". I received this box yesterday and i want to do root this box, i dont want to install costum rom just root. Can any expert post step by step instruction how to root matricom gbox midnight mx2. unless you are planning to do some developing or advanced android playing on the box i would not advise you to root it as it will be more prone for bricking / corrupting when being used.

I would keep your box as is and just select if you want to run the android platform on it (matricom / mbox) or stick the openelec /linux build on it for pure xbmc/kodi.

The rooting in my opinion is just an overhyped way of getting problems quicker :-)

half dead box

Hi guys the above box firstly boots up fine and as long as it's connected via ether net it works. The issue is wifi won't work and 3 of the use ports have stopped working. This is what I have done do far<br />
1. Tried to factory reset - the box just powers down and doesn't reset<br />

2. I have use a file explorer to try to delete old wifi in settings/etc/wifi and replacing with a wifi file that I got from a box on dame firmware that is working - it won't allow me to delete wifi file<br />

3. I have use benni's magic so card and followed the tutorial to the letter- when I press the reset button the box blue light comes up but I get no display and have left the box sat the same way for an hour- still did not boot with new firmware but still boots up on normal firmware.<br />

I cannot ftp it as there is no wifi and am at a loss as to what to do next, any ideas? Please<br />

I have tried titanium backup from a working device and that hasn't worked

Is there a way to flash mew firmware from the main screen I.e once it's fully booted?

Thanks for ur quick repply actually i want to do root my box bcoz mostly i use livestreampro (shani"s addon) so sometimes u need to copy python file in system or user data to play some live stream if ur box is not rooted then u cant copy the python file thats the reason i want to root my box

it seems 100x people have contacted me with the same problem - it seems that some sort of addon / script was updated a few days/weeks ago and is causing the xbmc to become very unstable when playing back any streams.

Because the actual problem may be different for different users the best fix would be start from scratch again having to reinstall the latest version of kodi (14 helix) and going through the fusion installer and the rest again. The other quicker solution would be to clear the cache (not the data) found in the xbmc program list. The cache may contain some bad files and causing the crashes. Clear the cache (which should be about 20-60mb, the data contains about 300-600mb so be careful what you clear). Then try and start xbmc again and you shouldnt lose your prefs and addons but xbmc should become more stable.

The last option is to clear both data and cache but you will need to setup from scratch again fusion etc etc etc....

I have managed to boot mxbox into cwm but that is as far as I can get, I have tried various different roms, matricom, droidtv etc but always get sdcard/update.zip error. I have been at this now for 4 days and scoured the Internet but am getting nowhere, following all the other tutorials such as bennibannasi my box just sits with a blue light and blank screen. Cwm from sd card is the only thing that gets me anywhere and now stuck again. Could someone please point me in the right direction

Try go back a few pages I give a detailed tutorial that has worked for many people when everything else has failed. Providing your box is not faulty you have a good chance of it coming back to life

my thoughts with this goes first to a small sd card (either the 4gb is giving you less than the space desired or you have a bad card - use another one)

second you may be preparing the card on a bad platform (windows 8 or higher) or your card reader is at fault.

try changing the two above and try again

hi

ok having some serious problems and at my wits end with it

the box when i plug the power in most of the time just the red light. the odd time the blue light will come on but no picture on tv. Ive tried the toothpick method but anytime i try that the light just stays red and nothing happens.

Now ive tried the HDD image thing and im getting this error

what im doing is opening the HDD and selecting the MATRICOM FILE as a source then my sd card or usb stick as a target. i then get that error message. is there something im doing wrong or not doing before this
