you will need to load firmware into sd card and attempt to re-flash the unit force method

    1. prep sd card with correct recovery files
    2. insert sd card and power off system from cable
    3. toothpic inserted, sd card inserted and carefully together plug in power
    4. android recovery loader begins and auto starts to flash system
    5. wait till finish - you will get 2x errors in the end - this is fine
    6. reboot from menu and have sd card removed also - android should load as normal

Thank you, Kerikhaos for sharing. Also i have a CS-918 v7_0 board very buggy and unstable units, do you know if there is a Matricom built for this unit. From reading my eyes out I can only see that Matricom is the best built to put on these Android TV boxes node

i can see you have attempted a restore from this thread

is there a chance your firmware didn't flash correctly? Are your bugs shared by others? If so you will have an issue as matricom only share fw with the g18ref units and have no other similar. Their new quad box the Mxq is patented this time so Chinese can't clobe exact board so no chance of their fw being shared. Only this is possible with the mx2 boxes

you will need to hunt for newer fw maybe from your supplier or other dedicated online forums as its a specific reference board

          Hope this helps

On the link you mentioned, I was able to get the box up. I cannot however get the the Nand flash to mount so Kodi when I install cannot run. Getting "Waiting on External Storage"

I am using the 2g+8g ROM that was linked on that post. I plan to stay away from these CS918.

I am looking at the M8 and needed to know if the Matricom fw will load on this. Again I am sure these Chinese M8s are cloned. So I want if I purchase the M8 to wipe the Chinese Fw off the box and load a stable Matricom built onto it.

On another note, I down loaded the 1.1.4Fw you posted, I extracted the files, got three other files, I reckon load all three onto the SD card, and go about the flash as you posted above for my MX TV box?

If your having a problem with installing then it may because on your fw the bid is not recognizing the usable disk space partition (kind of like the same issue with the mx2 installing the matricom 1.1.6 fw). You can check this by going into your settings and checking storage to confirm how much usable space you have. If this shows 0 or something other than the 5gb expected space you have a partition problem. It will hard to advise further on this box since there isn't many choices of fw to use for recovery.

the mx2 is the better choice for stability and performance for the money but the m8 s802 boards preferably the 2gb ram editions using the Chinese mbox fw are more stable than any matricom fw. Unfortunately u will not be able to use matricom fw on these s802 boxes because this time round they made sure no copying or cloning would be allowed. Matricom a mxq s802 has a 16gb disk drive not 8gb plus they have locked the fw for use outside their numbered boxes. For now anyway forget matricom on clone boxes but I will be keeping an eye out if any changes or updates occur where someone has managed to send their official fw to the Chinese boxes.

yes 3 files on root of an sd card and begin force recovery update. When done all should be 1.1.4b fw

I'm thinking about m8 instead of mx2. Are installs the same of course I will be running openelec. I would prefer to run mx2 to cause its a little more profitable but I don't wanna keep having to deal with client cause of it freezing. I'm not tech savvy I think I can flash the box as long I have the right files and are m8 the all same like no clone?? I'm thinking about getting them straight from China would that be a good idea??

first - the chinese are making the gbox q only for matricom...there will be no compatibles nor clones of this device....so forget running matricom fw on anything but the original box.....it is not like the mx2 where it was the same hardware but different firmware...in this case its totally different and not compatible.

the mbox firmware is the leading chinese fw......its like the matrcom fw of america but in my opinion by car more reliable and more stable than the matricom stuff.....i believe its the case with quad core devices.....as long as your seller has provided you with the original mbox firmware then you have nothing to worry about.....IFFFFFFF however you have picked up their so called clone (which in fact is the same thing but just with a crappy fw on it you will be stuck because they are reluctant to give out fw unless you have bought a certain amount of boxes from them).

Make sure you seller has provided you with a quad core s802 with minimum 2gb ram and 8gb disk space. These should come with the mbox fw. If it does not mention the fw and the price is less than 75 dollars....i would be suspect of what it is your buying

i have been recently told by them the newer boxes which are the S812 chipsets are even faster than the matricom boxes but are more expensive

thats correct, also make sure it comes with the mbox original firmware - if it does not then you will be stuck and unhappy with the bad firmware

Can you tell me what is the "Original MBOX Firmware version" that I should ask if it is loaded on this board please.

So I know what to stay far from.. Thanks

just make sure the box has the mbox version. They should confirm it has the latest which i believe is 03 - 2015 version so confirm that to them and see what they say....if they say its ok then you are good to go...also request the firmware files to be downloaded so you have recovery

                                MX2, HD18 V2.22

                                A Little bit of background.

I bought this box over a year ago with a bloated ROM installed
                                Changed ROM's to:

                                Slayers
                                Demoniums
Played with Finless Rom and attemted to help get WIFI to work.
                                Installed Matricom 1.1.6
                                Then Conycorries New MTD Linux.
Back to Matricom, 1.1.9, 1.2.0 and 1.2.2, I think it was on 1.2.0
                                etc.

About a 3 weeks ago I thought I would give Openelec a go (I think the box was

running Matricom 1.2.0 at the time), I absent mindedly flashed it and likely

screwed up the prep on the SDcard.
Result - blue light and no output to TV, would not reflash to any ROM I tried

or work on 2 other model TV's.

I bought this cable on **** (USB to RS232 / COM / TTL Serial Converter Cable

Adapter Module - PL2303HX) and tried everything I could find on the net

including shorting pins 7-8 and then tried 5-6, 7-8, nothing seemed it was

making a jot of difference, including trying to get AML ImageBurnTool to work

(error no config file reported by program when trying to load the ROM into the

                                program).

Last night I soldered a connector to the UART pads on the PCB and connected the

USB to RS232 cable and loaded Putty, switched on the MX2 and it came up with

                                this:

                                EEEE I3000000032940xf300110303;77520EEEE I400000004294_M6_BL1_3431>2534313

No console to connect to or anything else useful.

I read up some more and thought I would have another go with:
                                'SDcardMaker_eng'
Sandisk Ultra HC class 10 micro SD in a Sandisk adapter
                                Unticked the 'quick format' option.
                                Used u-boot.bin IIRC from:
                                'droidtv-boot-recovery'
to make the SD card and also copied over the files from:
                                'MX2-Full-1.1.5-FirmwareRC'
IIRC also with another copy of the ''u-boot.bin'

I slotted in the card fired up 'putty' and plugged the power into the box (no

pins or reset switch used) and it started filling the screen with formating

                                NAND etc.
Then it got stuck at looking for something from the network which it could not

find and didn't go any further or show anything out of the HDMI.

BUT on reboot I now had the option to stop the boot process and go into

                                console...

                                Gave the command to:
                                'nand erase whole'

And was back to square one...

I then remade the SDcard as before, but first extracted the files from:
                                'MATRICOM_MX2_115_FULL_AUG_09_2013.imgc' using 'HDDRawCopy1.10Portable'
onto the card and then copied them to the PC.
Once the SDcard was remade as this again:
                                'SDcardMaker_eng'
                                Sony class 10 8GB SDcard'
                                Unticked the 'quick format' option.
                                Used u-boot.bin IIRC from:
                                'droidtv-boot-recovery'

I then copied over the files from the image I had extracted earlier, fired up

'Putty' and got a whole lot more goings on, with it not getting stuck with the

                                ethernet loop.

Rebooted and it went into the Matricom 'first use setup' and into Android

                                YAY.

                                Software,images an hardware used:

                                MATRICOM_MX2_115_FULL_AUG_09_2013.imgc
                                HDDRawCopy1.10Portable
                                SDcardMaker_eng

USB to RS232 / COM / TTL Serial Converter Cable Adapter Module - PL2303HX

                                ('droidtv-boot-recovery' IIRC for u-boot.bin)

Long winded I know but hopefully will help others.

                                edit: Sdcard type used.
