In it's stock state, the box is useless to me.

WARNING: There's a bad batch of M8S Pro+ boxes which are experiencing regular freezing and crashes. We've narrowed the source of the problem down to a Samsung eMMC 5.1 chipset (KLMAG1JENB - B041), batches SEC 652 to 713, and these usually shipped from the factory with version 20170829.121614.V0321 of the OEM firmware. If you have one of these, it's highly recommended that you not flash any ROM (custom or OEM), as the prolonged block writes seem to result in serious data corruption.

IMHO the batch is not affected, since you have 628 and the damaged batches are 652 to 713.
If there's no way to get a refund or sell it, try to install the AndroidTV Firmware as a OTA update.
If you're lucky it will work.
It's up to you.
If losing money is not a matter to you, I'd give a try.
If not, try to ask for a refund or sell it.

Just make this kinda test.
Use it for some hours...try to install Kodi, use a free IPTV channel list, try to spend some time into it.

If you don't get any freeze and/or crash...cross your fingers and try to install the NexusTV firmware.

Again: it's up to you.

Hi, dont flash the custom rom it will just give error's and crash , had same box with that firmware and chip i couldn't recover it so just threw it in the bin , no one replied to my post regarding this box

I have received exactly the same box and have the same problems!
I ordered this box after reading all the positive reviews, but now it seems that I don't know what firmware to use and there isn't any original firmware available for my stock ROM in case it goes wrong.
There is also no reset button on my version, so I don't know how to proceed.

Hi wonder if anyone can help me ordered few boxes from gearbest and geekbuying no issues with flashing and using custom Rom run fantastic

and just received the latest 3 from geekbuying , went ahead to flash 1 of them but kept getting crashes and restarts I have taken pictures of the rom that came with and seems newer then before and also taken picture of board chip

not sure if want to flash the other one just incase this rom issue and not box issue also cannot find the stock ROM 20171208.183013.V0928 so can flash it back and see if still get same issues

Nope, I wasn't able to get this working. Will require rebuild, and I don't have source.

Does anyone have a newer OEM firmware release for this box?

Hi to everyone, last week I've bought this box and flashed this rom.!
I've got two question:
1. I know that to have 5.1 in Netflix's App I have a DD+ receiver. Now I've linked the box to my OLED 55EG9A7V and the TV to my sinto throu SPDIF. The Netflix app installed into TV can reproduce 5.1 sounds but the box no. But the OLED can decode the DD+. What is it wrong?

2. I would like to use the magic remote to control the box but without CEC. I found that from Nougat the remote.conf is obsolete and the mapping for remote is in dits file of kernel. Is true?

Hi guys, my M8S Pro+ has just arrived.
I'd like to put AndroidTV on it because the stock ROM is simply disgusting.
I opened it and my eMMC is a FORESEE NCEMAD68. I think it's not from the bad batch, right?

I have one box Mecool M8S Pro Plus with Samsung eMMC batch SEC 652 and ROM of death, pics down. Before find this forum and thread, i tried flash update ROM with Stock 20170919.150557.V0619 in Android OTA Update, that is brick my box.

After one day attempting anothers ROM's Stock, with USB Burning Tool and Burn Card Maker, never boot full, freeze Mecool boot.

On my last attempt after two days, I successed flash one ROM this link OTA file, burnning with Recovery Stock in Apply update from EXT flash zip file, my box unbrick.

In same day after unbrick my box with ROM Stock, I tried flahs Android TV this Thread through Burn Card Maker and I successed. I have been for more than one month my box dual boot, Android TV and LibreELEC sdcard, smooth run.

But I would ask the op Guest the possibility of an Android TV ROM based on that Stock ROM that saved my box, if it has something different in it, the menu is faster.

Hi everyone

I have a little problem with Netflix app.
I succesfully installed latest Nexus TV Rom from Magendanz on my Mecool M8s Pro+ and everything works great. I wanted to try Netflix app from Google play store and before that I checked with DRM Info Widevine Level and it was still L1.
So after login to Netflix account i tried to watch some movies or tv series. I didn't occur any 114 or 115 error but I have other problem with loading stuff. For example when I choose one movie it opens immediately with FHD quality but with another movie loading stops for example on 25% and nothing happens or another one opens after long time but with very poor quality. I try to clear cache, clear data and even reinstall Netflix app, but it won't help.
I tried using Netflix on another devices (smartphone, tablet) with same Netflix account and it works like a charm.
Did anyone have same problem and there is any solution for this?
If not I think I should open dispute with seller to make a refund.
