    Pipo M9 Pro RileyROM 1.7

Now v1.7a!!!! With an extra v1.7b (see below)

First of all, let me apologize for all of the delays in getting these ROM's out. Wow, what a busy week. Both of my jobs are taking up way too much time...but that's no excuse.

Anyway, here is RileyROM v1.7 for the M9 Pro.

This ROM is based on the 3g and wifi versions released on 9/6 and 9/9.

I'm not sure I will continue this, unless requested...but I created 2 versions of each. One with all of the apps Pipo includes in the stock firmware including the Pipo Launcher...and one that is fully debloated.

If you want to play with the Pipo apps, on first boot, click activate at the prompt and connect to wifi. Then reboot. When the tablet reboots it will activate all of the apps for you to access. I enjoyed playing around with the new launcher, but in the end...I decided that my good ole Apex Launcher was still the best for me...so I went back to the debloated ROM.

    As usual, this ROM is:

    Rooted
    Debloated
    init.d support
    Busybox support
    Expanded Ext4 file system
    CWM backup added
    2, 4, 6 or 8gb user app space

    Boot Animations by Tattman65
    Reboot app by Petrus
    Flash Tool by Finless
First Time User's Guide by Pr0xZen

I've been experimenting with some new tweaks...and I included them in the 1.7 versions, however I got reports that the tablet hung in the bootanimation. I have gone back and redone these ROM's without the experimental tweaks to make the ROM stable. Therefore the download links below have been updated to v1.7a. They are uploaded and ready to flash!!!!!!

Also, I ran across a new firmware released today (9/17/13), I think it is for the 3G tablets, but it doesn't specify, so if someone wants to try it, let me know. As usual, I couldn't find a change log for this new firmware. The firmware name is dated 8/28...but it says OTA, which is a new feature Rockchip has added for OTA updates, but I don't think it will work on a custom ROM...we'll see.

    Wifi_Stock_Launcher

    Wifi_Debloat v1.7a

    3G_Stock_Launcher

    3G_Debloat v1.7a

    1.7b...based on a new firmware released 9/17/2013

    Enjoy!!!!!!

Isn't it easier to make a .zip to flash via cwm with Pipo apps? thanks for the rom anyway!

      @@Also a small tutorial...

If someone wants to add multi-user on this rom, here's the how-to:

      > Delete Provision.apk from /system/apps;
      > Add "fw.max_users=x" on build.prop (/system), being "x" the number of users you want to add;
      > Reboot and its done.

When the tablet boot up again you just go to Settings > Users > Add new user and that's it!

I have included a template in the ROM kit for you to build your own CWM zip if you prefer to flash that way.
The format I use makes it easier for first time users, and allows for people to mix things across versions, such as the kernel.

Just doing it one way saves a bunch of hard drive space on our server and reduces the bandwidth requirements.

That is why we do it that way.

I tried adding multi-user the other day as you requested, but on my M7 Pro the settings app disappeared. I'll do some more testing. That's why I haven't added that option yet.

          Hello,

I just joined this forum due to purchasing an M9 Pro. Thank you Riley, for all the hard work that you have invested in this. You have made a lot of people happy with their purchase, by further improving Pipo's work.

I am used to flashing phones, but I have never flashed on a tablet before. I got the M9 for my dad as a gift. Can you please provide step-by-step instructions on how to install your ROM on to this device? I have looked around and cannot find them. I just want to make sure that I am doing it correctly. It may help to keep the instructions in the OP of all your update threads, just to have there for people like me, who randomly find a site like this through a Google search. It will save many questions and thread replies down the road. Thanks so Much!

I'm not trying to take over the show or anything here, so please don't get the wrong idea. However, perhaps it may be beneficial to keep everything in one thread Riley, then keep editing the Title and OP to most current build? This way everything is in one thread, all in the same place and it'll be easier for people to backtrack to find answers to questions and such. Just throwing it out there, it seems like it would make life a lot easier for yourself and everyone. Perhaps I just got too used to XDA's policies lol

Really, all you need to do is take a look at the First Time User's Guide which is inside the zip file. There is also a readme file which contains more specific information about the ROM/Device.

Just follow those steps and you should be good. If you run into any problems, just post your questions here and somebody will help you out.

Well, in my opinion it would be nice too, keeping all the versions into one thread + updating it with newer versions.

                @@Multi-user

I've done it on my tablet (M9 Pro) without problems so I think it wouldn't cause a problem for other owners too. I don't really know if Pipo use the same framework to all their firmwares, if so, it should work on any device. Cheers!

One of the definitions of the word "tradition" is:

"Always do it the same way all of the time, even though you forgot the reason why you started doing it that way in the first place." hahaha!!!!!

It's kind of a tradition among us old timers on FT.

I've been a member here on Freaktab since a few weeks after Finless started it. Starting with the early Finless ROM's we've always started a new thread with each ROM release.

To me, it is really beneficial because everyone knows which version you are talking about. As many versions of as many ROM's I've done...it serves to help me know exactly what someone is talking about...plus, I really hate clicking through many many pages of a certain thread to get to the good stuff. Knowing I'm on version 1.7 and working in that particular thread, it keeps me more organized.

One thing you may have noticed is that we all strive to help one another on Freaktab and nothing is ever deleted...so you can refer back to it someday. I don't memorize everything I've learned, but I do try to remember where I read about it, and can usually go back and find it pretty quickly having a bunch of little threads, versus one OMG long ass thread. That's also the reason we try to keep all of our versions available to download...unfortunately even the ones that didn't work...and I have produced some of them as well.

Also, it would be very difficult at this point to go back and change a fundamental design feature like that, because we have to maintain all of the links to threads back and forth and to file downloads...so I'm afraid we are stuck with the current format for the most part.

I really appreciate your thoughts and suggestions.

I hate excuses, but it is what it is....

One challenge for me is keeping track of all of the requests I get to add things to my ROM's. I try to act on those requests within a couple of days of the request, otherwise I forget who, what and where the thread is with the request. As a priority, I try to concentrate on at least getting a rooted ROM out for each new firmware release (and I really appreciate it when members discover a new release and let me know about it)...then, if I have time (between my two jobs, and family activities) I enjoy learning new stuff, but the testing process is very time consuming...which is why it takes me so long to implement new features. Once I learn how to manually do something...then I try to figure out how to script it into my kitchen so I can offer it on future ROM's. Unfortunately, though....if I find that one of those new features brakes things...I have to suspend offering them until I have time to test/learn more. That's just my process. So, I'm not giving up on the multi-user feature...I just need to work on it some more.

                    Hello Riley

                    Bad news, WiFi version

I downloded twice both versions ( stock and debloated ) and none of them boot only first image on boot, not bootanimation.

Okay, so there is a system like that across the entire website, got it. Your explanation makes sense, so thank you for explaining all of that. I understand where you are coming from & respect it, from a developers view. I do not have the tablet yet, so I have not downloaded the file. I wish I had, so that I saw it and refrained from asking such a silly question. Anyway, thanks again for explanation and I look forward to enjoying your work!

                            Riley

I did not have the same problems as the other users with rom not loading/freezing.

Although the rom does function, I have found 2 problems:

                            1. No lock screen. Upon startup tablet is on home page, and after turning screen off and on multiple times the lock screen is nowhere to be found.

                            2. I cannot format NAND after wiping cache in CWM and first reboot as the instructions say. I tried flashing several times with different parameter files but when trying to format the storage pops up saying "computing" and then disappears instantly. I reverted to 1.3a and the problems are gone.

This is for 1.7 WIFI debloated.

                            Thanks for the continued efforts.

                              Thanks.

Looks like one or more of my tweaks are causing problems. I tested it on the M7 Pro and everything seemed to work.

Be looking for an update 1.7a, tomorrow sometime.
