I'm a newbie too, so I sympathise with you when you are not too sure whether to click on something or not.
Through my own experiences and reading this thread, I have realised it is almost impossible to brick this tablet.
The most important thing is to carefully follow the instructions that came with the ROM. If English isn't your first language, then make sure you fully understand the instructions before you proceed.

And rrileypm doesn't want a beer. Most of us have donated a few dollars to rrileyrom (see page 1). This not only shows your appreciation of Randy's efforts, but also allows him to buy tablets which he can test his ROMs on.

I am also a tablet newbie.....
However! I have a very long history of computer nerding behind me.

Before flashing 1.9.2, I installed 1.8 without any problems (besides auto-reseting now and then) and 1.9 with the missing boot animation and a few minor bugs because of it.

I have made several minor 'mistakes' that are all my fault but these tablets are very hard to brick.

Try using a toothpick and 'resetting' the tablet by pushing the toothpick through the little hole next to the camera and flash on the back of the tablet. That should reboot the tablet. As I remember 1.8 I had quite a lot of restarts on bringing it up. Enable WIFI, restart, etc......

The main thing is to UNDERSTAND that these tablets are new and Pipo is using us, the end user, as their beta testers. They are slowly getting their poop in a group when it comes to the system programming on these tablets.

Try reading and understanding what it is you are doing when it comes to flashing these ROM'S. If you unchecked something it may effect the operation of your tablet. Read the included instructions and follow them while flashing your device (tablet.)

After all these tablets are just another computer, it is the software that makes them useable.

My suggestion to you is to download 1.9 test 2 (or wait for 2.0) (from #195, page 10) and install it (it works perfectly with me).
However, make 100% sure that you erase the NAND (IDB) and that the process ended ok before flashing the ROM. Use the procedure and ROM_Flash_Tool_137 that is in the package.
        It should work...
        Good luck!

Thx all. My Pipo M9pro 3G is back!! Riley's 1.7a is working for me. I'd tried 1.8 SMS ans 1.8 SMS2, but got a black screen and hanging loader again. Tommorow another day to look into it. I really want to SMS with my M9pro 3G.

        Goodnight!

Good morning all ! This app is loaded with the Pipo set up. By unchecking the en_apk button it was not loaded. The Pipo setup looks in a particular folder and loads the apps that are in it. Randy left this useful app in place on this test rom. I have not found it to affect wifi performance at all despite it appearing to be permanently on. In fact it is not. Check the app drawer and click on the wifi display icon to discover the app. Its for streaming the display to a screen with wifi - look to the future, its not useless!

            Back from baseball for now.

I've put together another test ROM to try which hopefully will rectify the problem with the bootanimation. Don't worry what it looks like, it's just the fact that there's something going at this point. After we get successful boot, we can try other things.

            This is called Test2:

            Download

            Thanks for testing.

I'm hoping to be able to order one of these tablets on Monday to test with. In the meantime, I appreciate the feedback from testers....and keep those donations coming!!!!!! (see post #1 for a link)

            Randy,

Just to say thanks! - the equivalent to a few cases of beer on its way to you. - Hope you get your M9Pro soon.

The dans root batch file seems pretty straight forward but can't talk to the tablet, so i suspect i need to add the driver. But how to do without losing the one for flashing? Thanks in advance, colin.[/QUOTE]

The rockchip drivers for flashing roms worked for me and enabled Dans rootscript to "see" my tablet. Not sure why yours doesn't.
I would presume that running the driver.exe file would only add drivers and not replace the existing ones.

Thanks Mattie for coming back - I suspect it has something to do with USB debugging - it needs to be on for some stuff - like Titanium backup, but off for others like the rockchip flashing. I probably got it the wrong way round. I am waiting to get Randy's V2.0 Rom before doing anything else, as I don't want to trash my PC settings before flashing what I think we are all hoping to be the ROM that works for all of us! (no Pressure Randy, take your time and get it right!)

The ONLY rom I have managed to text with was the stock rom dated 11th October, you can find it here......

                      SMS Texting

This is ONLY my personal opinion, BUT I suspect that the sms release is there to satisfy Chinese customers who want to use the WeChat service which seems to be free for sms texting on your 'phone' it is NOT an advertised feature of the tablet that I have seen. I have no idea if it was included in the latest ROM release from Pipo, and I dare not put my China Mobile SIM into the device for fear of trashing the play store services (My Samsung Note WAS devoid of all things Google when I purchased it here in China and it took me a LONG time to turn it into a different version that Google is now happy with) - all down to the sim card regions etc etc....I worry that the second I put my Chinese sim into the tablet that Google will again refuse to play with me! If others could test this on V1.9test2 to see if it works or not that would be great. I also suspect you need to put a sim card in from a phone with data plan that allows sms texting - I am not sure if a data only sim will let you text ??

                        Dear Friends,

I can confirm that with Riley 1.9 Test 2 i solved all my problems and I thank you for all your help.

Wifi works perfectly at full speed now.

I have only 2 problems now

                        1) The screen never goes to sleep and the power button doesn't turn on/off the screen, it's always on.

                        2) Can i install a phone application to use the 3G Sim card to make phone calls? I had very ultra cheap chinese tablets that could make phone calls with the 3G module. How can we do it?

should i reset with the tablet turned on? also, when i reset do i loose all installations and configs?

                              reset

Yes, and then no! You can reset on or off and you won't lose anything. Think of it like ctr/alt/delete in windows [well old windows anyway!] It resets into off, so after you will need to turn it back on, don't sit waiting like i did one time!

Your USB debugging suspicions are correct - as long as you do have ADB.exe. First, try running it at a command line
                                ADB DEVICES
and verify it just presents an empty list of devices. If some other message, it isn't the driver (at least yet). Once something appears as a Device in response to that, you have the driver installed and usable by a script. The script itself could have other error messages though.

The M9Pro presents one USB device ID which uses a mass storage driver from Microsoft in Windows. That isn't the Device / Driver that is used for flashing or for ADB access (USB Debugging enabled). The Flash tools need to find that device and driver to display "Found RKAndroid Mass Storage USB" to click the reboot to flash mode (or have the RKBatchTool display pink). When you do Switch / Reboot to Flash / Bootloader, the M9Pro removes that mass storage device ID from the USB cable and presents another device ID which will need a 2nd driver to actually do the flash, erase NAND, etc. Those two devices are mutually exclusive and you can only update their driver while the device is present and appears in Device Manager.

I want to encourage you to do something else though. A third USB Device id is generated when the M9Pro isn't in Bootloader / Flash mode and it requires the ADB device driver to be able to run ADB from another machine (part of scripts). That ADB device can be present or absent independent of the Mass Storage device and its driver can ONLY be updated when USB Debugging is enabled and the device is present in Device Mgr. It is not necessary to turn USB Debugging off to flash. Turning it off is more to avoid user confusion when trying to get the drivers installed correctly. You have the mass storage and flash drivers installed OK now, so start Device Mgr on the PC and toggle USB Debugging on the tablet. You should see a device come and go with the USB Debugging setting (and usually hear an audio sound that a USB device has appeared / disappeared). If it appears as Unknown device, M9Pro, Android Device, some phone device, ... depends on what may have gone on previously. As long as it does appear, you should be able to Update Driver to get ADB working. I don't know what "Drivers.exe" created, but if you are doing Update Driver for the device that comes and goes with USB Debugging, you aren't going to mess up flashing at all. Explore to whatever drivers you have and it will only install them if they are configured for the ADB device. If it doesn't find anything suitable, you are looking for some zip / rar / ... that contains a
                                android_winusb.inf
                                with Device ID lines containing
                                USB_Install, USB\VID_2207&PID_0010&MI_01

I got my winusb.inf from this post

but the download link requires picking Download for free, entering a captcha, waiting for the countdown without clicking, and ending up with
                                RK3188_ROOT for CX-919 FW0715 MOD by Everal.zip

I'm pretty sure there is an equivalent somewhere at rockchip.nl that picaye mentioned back on post 289, but that isn't what I used to get an appropriate winusb.inf. There is a good driver included in the Android SDK, but it lacks the lines for USB\VID_2207&PID_0010&MI_01 to be recognized on an RK3188 device.

                                Totally unrelated,
/system/apk_en and apk_zh are empty in 1.9test2 so I PRESUME that it doesn't make any difference if the initial Setup cares if the box is checked or not.
