I'm already getting it loaded w/ my fav apps and running them to see if they do OK, other than a lil OS lag most apps thus far are running at what seems normal. A lil glitchy in the browser and when scrolling in the market, kind of a loading lag, I noticed the WiFi on the my 2nd 701i is only about 1/2 the strength of my other 701i & 701C. So the browser lag could just be that, the 1st 701i is in my daughter's posession and she won't give it up to me yet for comparisons, LOL. A fix for the Netflix would be great on both the i & C, don't really want a bad rotation in Chinese to get that though.

I hear ya. At least your Netflix is watchable (I'm assuming with the latest netflix app). Mine, like many others, was just unwatchable on the 701c. It would start to play for a minute or two and then the audio would get out of sync...then it would just freeze.

I had to download and install an older version of Netflix (1.5.2) to get a watchable version of Netflix. There is still a very slight audio sync issue but it's not terrible.

One of the things I always wonder about with these budget tablets is quality control. From what I've read it seems like performance can really vary from individual tablet to tablet with the same model number.

I'm streaming my netflix using playon server and using the android playon app. It works quite well.

one question, do your menu and back buttons work in v5? mine arnt and i wasnt sure if i buggered something when i popped the case for a look yesterday.

I have the 701c with the V5 1.1 ICS rom installed and can confirm reversed orientation and menu/back hardware buttons NOT working. My date/time also keeps slipping. For now, i unchecked auto orient, use "clock sync " app for sync, and am not too concerned about buttons.

I remember seeing a different Polaroid 7 tablet model number but the boxes looked identical. I didn't know wtf the 701i was. I just knew the 701C sounded like a decent buy from the forum here and reviews online. I was trying to make sure I got the 701C...apparently so was the cashier at Big Lots.

I remember her going through the stack of about 10 polaroid tablets looking at the end of the box. I bet anything she was making sure I got the 701C since that was the one that happened to be advertised in the paper .

Being a cashier at Big Lots, many don't know the difference of any electronic. Some I really wonder if they know the difference between a MP3 player and a laptop. The cashier probably was going for what was in the ad because that's what most only know how to do. A guy came in yesterday and asked about the polaroid in the display which was the 2.3. He walked out with the 4.0 after I showed it to him. I do unto others as I wish would be done unto me. If there was something better for the same price, I'd hope the cashier would inform me. Also, it wouldn't hurt if the cashiers did a little research on new products to better assist customers. I do. If there is an electronic I don't know about, believe me, I know all about it by the next day. I then am able to give honest thoughts on products and make sure they know what they are walking out with and if it is what they are truly looking for. I know I hate when I get something that isn't what I thought it would be and have to return it. I bought one yesterday and honestly, I'm returning it. I found the picture quality terrible and never have I had anything that disconnected me from wifi so often. It actually will not allow me to connect to wifi again (once it has disconnected me) until I have turned the tablet off then back on again. Four times in an hour of that and that's all I needed. Maybe I got a defective one but I'm over this product now.

Yeah I don't really blame the cashier. I think she was just trying to do her job by making sure I got what was advertised in the circular ad that week.

I think it's pretty cool you take the next step and actually try to be informed about the stuff you are selling to customers. Most don't go beyond the minimum of what is expected from them. In fact, there are so many in retail who can't be bothered to even do the minimum requirements of a job. (Rolling their eyes when they actually have to open a display case etc).

Kudos to you for doing your job well and treating others as you would like to be treated.
I know there are many customers who are jerks too..but it also gets old dealing with clerks/cashiers/who act like it is a chore to do their job.

Sorry to hear you were disappointed. Did you buy the 701i or the 701C? Mine has lost Wifi like 2 or 3 times...typically when it's been in standby for a long time and comes out. Sometimes it will give "wifi error". Most of the time I just had to go into settings and turn WIFI back on and its fine. There was one time when the WIFI wouldn't snap out of it and I had to power down and turn it back on. Then all was well.

I try to keep in mind that could have something to do with interference, my connection or router, as well as the device. While the 701C is far from perfect I think it's a pretty decent tablet for the price. I have seen other 7" tablets for $99.99 (A few of which Big Lots used to sell) and they were about half as nice as this one. I've also since some tablets priced around $20-30 more that aren't as nice.

I find the picture quality on mine to be more than adequate but then again I'm a tablet noob and didn't expect too much. The fact that this has a capacitive touch screen and not a resistive touch screen like most in this price range is another great plus for me.

I do think there are more "duds" and problem products when you get into this budget price range..so reliability is sometimes just luck of the draw I suppose.

Something else to consider while shopping foryour next PMID701C

One thing on WiFi disconnects is that if you are using an older router you might want a newer one. I saw a display while I was debating getting my third Polaroid yesterday that was a newer Linksys Wireless N router for $25 right there at Big Lots. Might not be a bad investment if you need a router upgrade.

                    Opinion?

                    So NUX.
Now that you have had both the C and I for a couple days, rooted and installed Google Play and other apps you usually like to run.

Which one do you prefer using? Not which one is flashier or looks nicer to show but which one do you find yourself or others in your household using more if given the choice?

I am quite happy with the C and gingerbread. Matches my phone OS etc and will be a little less laggy from what I gather.

                    Thanks mate.

Also about the WiFi issues. Some units are just not as good as other but for sure get an updated router as SaberCat suggests.

I also installed a WiFi on/off widget on mine. If it loses the connection I just recycle and all is ok in a few seconds as it reconnects. I use a Fry's N wireless router in my detached office and jump to the house with a 802.11G Linksys wifi extender. The 701C only gets a little confused when I am right between the Router and Extender and comming out of stanby. Quick on/off and it picks one.

I got the 701i. I've bought many tablets (older models) for both my boys, my brother, my sister, and my mom. Everyone loved my boys' tablet so it just kinda spread. haha. I'm pretty good with electronics in general. I've checked everything possible but I really think it's the tablet. It's probably a dud and I've seen my fair share of them. Though, with this tablet there hadn't been any returned and I've read good things and maybe I'll decide to exchange it. Idk yet. Annoyed with it. It seems to freeze when it has lost connection and won't allow you to turn it back on. I've waited for over 30 mins at most and it still stays "turning wifi off..." While it's a good tablet, I still think it's lacking some. But for the price it's good.

                        Hey Smokey,
Where are you in Ohio? I'm in the Youngstown area but I've not looked for a 701i yet. I'll see if I can find one tonight if you haven't already looked where I'm going, Boardman, Warren, Austintown. Let me know.

I wonder if someone made a cwm backup of 701i (before they enter any passwords) and we loaded the onda ics rom and then restored the back up, if that would fix the auto rotation problem. I would be willing to try if someone has a cwm backup of ics.

the clockwork we have at the moment will only work on gingerbread, not ics. there are some irons in the fire, but we dont have one yet.

I just got one of these too, installed gapps from sdcard, worked fine except for gtalk which force closes which is most likely the lack of camera... does anyone know how to get that working?
