Nextbook Premium 7 SE w/ ICS

If you PM me a location, I can send whichever of the dump files u would like to take a stab at. Perhaps a smaller one to begin with. Keep in mind these dumps were not created with rkdump because of permission issues. I used; dd if=/dev/mtd/mtdx of=/sdcard/x.img bs=4096. Previous post lists dumps and file sizes.

If you know of a way to root this puppy I would be able to get around the permissions issues.

If I can get your dumps I may be able to fix them. Not the first time some dumps were corrupt. When I say corrupt the data is fine its just it not starting and stopping at the right offsets. Usually I can look through these with a hex editor and fix them, combine them as needed, or trim them and get a dump working again.

So are the links still up somewhere?

PM'd you the file randy gave me... hope you can make it work. I have looked at it in hex editor and its missing chunks/major tail that dont match the pure update image from next7p.

Edit: it is majorly off since the update image (Next8P12-Netflix.update.img) for next8p12 is 290 MB and the next7p12 dump is 480 MB. (have tried using tail end of file from next7p12 image and no luck).

Stay tuned. I will make a stock ROM kit and a rooted ROM kit. The rooted ROM kit will give system as RW and install SU and Superuser.apk nothing more. Later I will look more into customizing it with EXT4 etc.

You really want the non-split version? In my opinion having kernel in boot.img makes for a slower system and is the old school way RK28 ROMs were made. It will be much easier for you to work with the ROM with it split. Taking out kernel from boot.img is a major pain. You have to use a perl script and then edit the RAW binary kernel with a hex editor to remove leading garbage, then repack it with rkcrc.

But if you guys want it I can do it.

OK guys so fill me in a little. I have not been keeping up on the new nextbook.

What is the Tablet and how different is it than the older 7P Gingerbread? Are there hardware differences? Will this ROM work on the older 7P?

Actually I see the need for a stock unsplist version so you can flash back to stock if you need to return the tablet. So my Stock ROM download will be a unsplit version.

My first custom ROM of this will be a split version and rooted. This makes more sense to me.

• Camera & Mic
• Volume Keys
• Micro usb
• Microsdhc
• Some shots showed micro hdmi but i havent confirmed that

The core specs are the same tho 1ghz rk2918, 512mb ram, low dpi 480x800 7" display, etc

As per it working on older thats what i wanted to find out and i think the merged boot was causing me issues when i messed with next8pse update rom so im gonna further test with your pure split next7pse one.

No micro HDMI on mine. If there is an app that outputs hardware info that would be usefull to you. let me know I can run it and report.

I'm not oposed to doing a reset and re-dumping if that would help at all.

I'm sure its the same as the old next8p that had volume keys... of course until get mine who knows when Randy is our most able support with the actual device so only he can verify that theory.

Plug in the USB cable into both the device and your computer, then hold down volume up and down, and while held down, insert a paperclip into the reset button hole to press the reset button on the back of the device (keep holding down the volume up and down buttons until you hear Windows detect the USB device).

Use the tool/drivers from here to see if its in flash mode (I'm certain teh same rkandroid bootloader drivers are teh same).

I wish i could do more but i'm having trouble scraping up funds for next7p12.

Also as per specs... next7p vs next7p12 that will cover that part.

Also news.... I flashed this ROM to my Arnova 10G2 and it boots. So I know the ROM is not a brick. Of course nothing works like the screen etc so I cant test further but we now have a stock ROM

Man guys... this thing appears to be heavily bloated! Also no Google Play is pre-installed.... Looks like the getjar market is there though. Lucky I have all the ICS files needed to enable Gplay from my rooted 9G2 ICS ROM.

So questions for you for my first custom ROM. Of course we need Randy to test

1) I will root it.
2) I will increase the size of system.img and do you want Google Play installed?
3) Do you want me to debloat it? If so since I cannot test, what apps should be removed? There looks to be a ton of junk and some APKs I do not recognize.

So what do you want for my first custom ROM?
