    Finally!

So now I have to go look at what to mod... Gplay built in? bash scripts? Open RW system.img by default?

Shawn, I bet you could do this all yourself honestly. I am out of town next week but if you guys have not started hacking away when I return, I would be suprised

If I can help, just let me know!

    Good Job Shawn!

      Rom Modding

Thanks Bob, I'm actually planning to work on making a better rom soon. I'm going to take out the unneeded apps like Kobe and weatherbug, add in the google play market, and add in the RW permissions for system.img. I should have it completed in the next couple days.

          Rom modification

I'm planning to release some tutorials to help mod and do stuff like extracting the img files or making a custom rom soon. I had used snowbreeze to help make the first rom, but then it stopped working, so I will post a better tool to do all of the rom modifications. I'll probably package it up in a zip and post that as a PMID701C rom modification environment. I am currently stuck as to how to extract the root.img and system.img's and repackage them. I think I'll need to install linux, so saber, how about you lend me a hand and let me use your linux pc over vnc or rdp? It'll save me time and effort from having to install ubuntu or fedora.

With the nephew running around here watching on demand and netflix, the wife works from home from time to time and is always streaming music, got the security cameras up to watch. Throw in another outside user my router might not be able to take the strain .
In reality it wasnt too bad getting it done. I think it might go better after using gparted to change the partitions around to reboot into Windows then to let it repair itself, then back into Ubuntu to finalize the install, it might go easier. I ended up going big with a 46G for root, 4G for swap, and 250G for home, figure'd I wouldn't have to do it again if I went that way since I still have access to all the Windows room too.

So by the way am I to understand you got the ROM cooked without even needing Linux? I know it would not be easy to try to really start hacking on them without it since there is the whole EXT4 thing going against you in Windows.

Oh and dont forget to get with Artistlogic for the splash screens.

            Welcome to team DarkStar Shawn,
            Matt

              Woohoo

Thanks. I never expected that I'd be on Team DarkStar. And yes, I did cook this rom without needing Linux at all. I actually made the CWM rom on Windows also. I did use an ext4 explorer though in Windows just to take a look at the filesystems of the imgs. I didn't change the bootscreen in this rom because it's suppose to be a stock rom. The next rom I release will have ArtistLogic's bootscreen. I just want to thank everyone for their hard work, I mean without notpod's images I would not have been able to make this rom. I'll install Linux later and really start working on these roms.

This rom can be flashed with Live Suite and does not use any Onda firmware files. This rom is the same rom that comes preflashed on the PMID701C when you first buy it at the store. So now you can go try new roms without the worry of not being able to return to factory defaults.

                  Tutorial:
                  1. Download Live Suite.

                  Hello!

Many thanks for your efforts! Unless/until Soutern Telecom decides to officially release a ROM file to reflash with, your contribution will prove vital to anyone who has locked themselves out of their tablet.

As for myself, my tablet seems to no longer want to "go home", either by touching the screen or by pressing the button. As soon as I have time to reinstall everything, I will flash my own back to factory default, now that there's a file for me to do that with.

Hopefully, this might motivate ST to release the needed images to reflash both the C and I models of this tablet.

                    zip corrupted, image file...

First off thank you for your effort and I too can't wait till we have a custom Rom for this tab. I am impressed with it for$99 bucks. I for what ever reason can't get the file without it being corrupted. I've tried from two different machines. any advise would be appreciated.

                      Hello!

The ZIP file is about 115MB, so it could be getting corrupted along the way. Is the zipped file saying that it's corrupted when you try to extract the individual files, or is the download puking before it finishes? If it's the latter, try the download from a wifi hotspot, it you can.

Shawn, can you generate an MD5 checksum for this ZIP? I'll try to extract the archive *I* downloaded, and if it extracts OK for me, I'll generate one and post it.
