I'm also wondering about whether or not the S.T. "official" ICS upgrade actually kills the tv out function on the 701C or not. I don't think anyone has upgraded and then taken the time to verify. I upgraded via S.T.'s ICS update, but I don't have a cable so I can't verify.

As for the ICS upgrade helping your performance on Netflix, I wouldn't get my hopes up. I've tried everything and then some to make it work well on my 701C running ICS. As flaky as the S.T. production of these tablets seems to be, who knows. Go ahead and give it a try but I can certainly tell you it did NOT solve my Netflix problems on my 701C. Like you, I was hoping it would. No dice.

So far the most consistently successful setup has been running the old 1.5.2 version of Netflix on the stock 701C gingerbread rom. There is a very minor audio sync issue at times, but the video always played well.

Don't want to hijack this thread and make it another thread hijacked by Netflix discussion so I'll say this quickly and let it be. Here are MY experiences with Netflix on ICS on the 701C. Maybe it will save you or someone else some time.

For ME every version of Netflix I tested on the OFFICIAL polaroid/S.T. ICS 4.0 upgrade rom for the 701c ran terribly. Video and audio were jumpy, it would freeze, crash etc. This is true even when I tested with LiquidLimez marketfix and the other superscript floating around here.

The closest thing I've had to success with Netflix running ICS on the 701C has been while using Shawn's ICS rom for the 701C and the LiquidLimez marketfix here. I'm not sure what is different between shawn's 701C ICS rom and the "official" polaroid/S.T. ICS upgrade rom, but Shawn's definitely gets me closer Netflix success than the official upgrade rom.

Using Shawn's setup and the marketfix script I did notice Netflix ran beautifully on SOME/many videos. The audio and video were in perfect sync when it did play. I just had issues with it freezing at certain points in certain videos. It would typically do that at or near the same point. Play the same video on a pc, Xbox 360 etc and it plays through that same trouble point just fine. Whether it's a buffer problem, a problem with the Netflix app or what I can't say.

Now to make sure I leave the thread on topic:
Thanks for all the hard work you've done to date on the Polaroid Roms Shawn!!

      Polaroid 701i STOCK ROM
Polaroid 701i Gingerbread ROM (Coming Soon)

      Flashing Tutorial:
      1. Download Live Suite.
      2. Turn off your Polaroid Tablet
      3. Select the corresponding image file from inside Live Suite.
      4. Hold the second button from the bottom (menu) and plug your tablet in. (FEL Mode)
      5. Select Format Upgrade.

      Live Suite

If you have any problems, questions, or concerns about this rom send me a PM. If you like my work, feel free to donate. (Help me buy a new PC so I can continue to make ROMS!)
Has anyone successfully installed Shawns 701i Stock ROM on a 701i? I have Win7 64-bit and both LiveSuite 1.07 & 1.09. I get to the point where the file is selected and the cable is hooked up. The computer beeps when it detects the device and then Live Suite closes or hangs. I can flash the ST 701i 13 stock firmware fine (and have done so several times).

        FEL Fail

I just bought the 701c. I cannot get into FEL mode in the way described. When I hold down the menu button... Windows 7 says it can't get a driver... though when I enter normal USB mode, it has no problem. Is there another way to get into FEL mode, or to image the Polaroid from its own memory? Thanks!

If you download the official Southern Telecom ROM package, it has an additional driver install package in the LiveSuite directory called LiveSuitPack_version_1.07_20111026.exe. I had to install this and reboot before my drivers would work.

Accidental flash of Polaroid 701i with 701c ROM

I accidentally flashed the Polaroid PMID701i X10 with the Bloatware Free ROM (gingerbread 2.3.4, I believe) Shawn made for the Polaroid PMID701c . I have both the 701c and the 701i and I didn't pay attention to which tablet I grabbed. Well.... Everything seems to be working great (so far, anyway), although I did lose a lot of apps and the general setup I had spent so much time tweaking to my liking, it runs much faster than the ICS 4.0.3 that came on the tablet.
Anyway, I also found that you do not want to "install" the drivers in Windows (Vista 32bit, in this case), by having Windows search for drivers and pointing to the Live Suite/USBDriver folder (yes, I plugged in the tablet before starting Live Suite, and Windows wanted to find some drivers for it, so I pointed it at the Live Suite/ USBDriver folder). Let's just say the tablet could not be recognized and Live Suite could not connect to it. Took me a while to figure this out, but after I uninstalled the driver (from Windows that is) and just let Live Suite find the tablet, everything worked fine. BTW, the reason I was needing to flash the 701c was that it flaked out on me yesterday and wouldn't boot up past the Polaroid screen. This is the second time this has happened to me in the last month, the first time I returned the tablet to Big Lots, but this time I was determined to find a solution to the problem, SO I have to say a big thank you to Team Dark Star for all of the work they put into developing the ROMs, without them I would be lost, without the tablet, and out the $98.00 I spent on the tablet. You guys rock. This site rocks. Thank you all.

                Hello!

Sure - IF there was one out there for you to install. If somebody knows about one, speak up!

However, with 2.3 and 4.0 ROMs out there for the 701x already, I could be wrong about this, but I don't think anyone's going to want to write a backport to 2.2 for you, if it's not already floating around out there somewhere...

is custom better than stock ics?

a couple questions, I just got 2 for 89.99 woot! Thanks for all the hard work, my kids will love these on the up coming 10hr car trip

So is Shawns ICS better than the ST ICS upgrade? (whats the difference)
Is the google play store available with the ST ICS?
How is volume controlled on the ICS updates without physical buttons?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think Shawn's ICS ROM is a custom ROM that involves any tweaks for performance. It's custom in that it was a result of his hard work to give people an ICS upgrade script for the 701C BEFORE S.T./Polaroid did. He also got us the stock rom's so we could restore firmware before S.T. released them.

He has a debloated Gingerbread ROM but I don't think his actual 701C ICS rom is much more than a ICS rom reverse engineered from the 701i ICS rom so 701C owners could have ICS without waiting for Polaroid to get around to it. (Not that I'm making light of all the hard work he did. We're all truly grateful!)

Do you have the 701C model? I really don't think one ROM is better than the other. Shawn just got it for us first so we didn't have to wait for S.T. because they kept postponing the release of firmware.

If you have a Polaroid already running ICS there isn't any reason right now to change. If you have a Polaroid PMID 701C running Gingerbread then you could upgrade to either ROM. There honestly isn't much difference because they are both basically the 701i ICS ROM. I do know there was an issue with losing the function of some of the buttons when I rebooted with Shawn's ICS rom for the 701C. However it was easily fixed by swapping out a single file.

As for the volume you change that with soft keys/buttons on the touchscreen just like Gingerbread because there are no hard buttons. However one of the things I like about ICS is you can generally get to the volume settings easier than with Gingerbread. With GB I noticed some apps and games made the task bar disappear and you had to back out to adjust volume which was annoying. With ICS you can generally tap the bottom of the screen when viewing video etc and it makes adjusting the volume less of a PITA in some cases.

                        One last thing...

Just remembered the "official" 701C ICS Upgrade rom is pre-rooted.

Not sure about Shawn's ICS rom for the 701C...

Thanks for the info, I have the 701c so I flashed shawns rom and everything seems to be working great. I love the access to controls in ICS.

                              Hey guys

Hey everyone, I still haven't heard back from Southern Telecom since April, maybe if a few of you sent a couple emails to Nate, the customer support guy, about the success you guys are having from my roms, it might help persuade him into hiring me.

                              His email is [email protected]

If anyone does send him an email let us know if he replies.

P.S, I have received my new computer (AMD A8-3850!) which means I can start working on roms again, but I don't have anything to work on currently, so if anyone has any ideas or projects they'd like to work on for the tablet, let me know, I'd love to keep working on roms for the tablet. I don't have a tablet anymore so anything I publish may be glitchy / not work, so feedback will be needed.
