By the way, my B4K is still alive after phoenixcard upgrade - 4.2 and smooth UI. Unfortunatelly HW video decoding for its chipset still not always working.
i just did the phoenix & erase nanda method as well, worked without a problem. i did a antutu benchmark on my old firmware & now on the new one so i'm checking to see if there is a diffrence.

The measy RC-16 air mouse does not work again though maybe i'm doing something wrong ? ah well ps3 joypad works good also using the six axis tool (kinda weird both products from measy & not even working )

also i think this is a developpers build because it says RC3 (release candidate 3).

It feels a lot smoother though wondering what the antutu result will be

I use RC11. No problem at all. But sometimes only gyro mouse is working, not a keyboard. I disconnect receiver from B4K and put it back - it helps. I plan to downgrade it to RC9 actually. Also system keyboard settings are very important.

I think it is because of amount of available ram + some code optimization. Anyways with this "beta" 4.2 we can easily wait for official update.

yeah the RC-16 is without receiver (well it's an addon if you want) i only have the bluetooth for it to connect. but it's probably my fault for not looking it up first

i'm quite happy using a dual shock 3 from my ps3 atm and it's all really smooth now goana test plex now

btw to get root, i used another method .. i did not know about a general allwinner root.

i used a zip file named "Onda_Allwinner_A31_root_v1_0.zip" i still have it here, it's just an OTA zip file (you can get root by going to the update program and then selecting that zip. It was for another device but works with measy b4k also. i had found it somewhere don't know where exactly. It's just a runner script it executes .. copying, symlinking su, superuser.apk etc and does a few other things like removing some of those chinese app's. although i do remove a few others. not sure if it's a safe method though. I've uploaded it to my skydrive in case you need a look at the script or something https://skydrive.live.com/redir?resi...AC8A63%2120232

                I`ve downloaded mine from : http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2143581
Looks like a similar tool. Installation method is the same.

I have same advplayer. Also not working. I didn`t check rest of apps. I installed Vidon, MX player, Xbmc and use them.

                          Couple of questions:

                          1. What is the native resolution of the new b4k rom? Antutu will report it

                          2. Is the B4k equiv to the Cs918ii - does it have the same wifi chip? Or is it same wifi as U4k

                          3. I've found kernel sourced for SDk 3.2. Is it possible to flash kernel only?

                            1) all allwinner devices are NOT softbrickable ... with that i mean that if you completely mess up your nand (dd'ing 0's or failed firmware update) and there's no oss whatsoever left it will boot into whats called fel mode .. http://linux-sunxi.org/FEL this is a low level system where you can communicate with the device to execute commands and even restore devices ... this is probably what some of those tools like phoenixsuite etc uses at some point. I came across a thread where there was a guy that on purpose brick is device by dd'ing zeros to the nand so fel mode would become active an he could restore his firmware using livesuite (http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.comp.h.../521/focus=659 )

Not all allwinner devices use the same system to get the device in fel mode for example i've read posts about having to press 10 times the fel / recovery key and similar things

also this is only true if you of course have a complete original firmware (img file) to flash and a way to flash it (normally livesuite)

                            2) came across other threads where people also tried the phoenixcard version 3.09 to boot a linux kernel from sd card ... they came to the conclusion that there are problems with them on A31 device's .. there's a whole paragraph about his tries here on a 31 soc http://linux-sunxi.org/PhoenixCard

                            3) boot order changed on a31 devices http://linux-sunxi.org/BROM

                            4) linux kernel source and u-boot source are released http://git.rhombus-tech.net/linux & http://git.rhombus-tech.net/?p=u-boo...nner-sunxi-a31

                            5) i opened my B4K unit just to check if there wasn't a micro usb port on the pcb and just to see what's inside .. I was happy to see that there was a heatsink on the cpu i also took photo's of it in case anyone is intrested i'll upload them

                            6) allwinner firmware images (*.img) can be unpacked & repacked so you can change your firmware using this tool to remove or add things & mess around .. (you do need a linux system for it) using this tool:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...php?p=49337733 extra info on modifying stuff ... https://www.miniand.com/wiki/Allwinn...iveSuit+images (explains basically everything)

in theory should there be fix found for the sd card booting stuff it should be possible to boot linux from sd card as well as another version of android

it's normally also possible to backup original firmware using dd command & exporting partitions .. i have seen a general script for this but can't find it back .. [edit did not find the script but found this ... which is equally good http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/...tition-images/]

once i have my cables i start messing around .. can't wait .. i'm fairly certain we can get the firmware update work for b4k devices one way or another
Superb note, great research that gets me started!

I'll try to hack about with this and the SDK 3.2 kernel sources over the weekend.

                            Rehosted B4k image

this should be possible one of the /dev/block/nand[X] device is the kernel .. Not sure which one though.
you should be able to do this by dding onto it. but it's risky since we do not know yet how to reset using fel communication (i haven't really tried yet will do this weekend probably). For example we kill nanda to do the update it's probably bootloader but don't know what will happen if your dd'ing of linux kernel got messed up (since nanda is not erased and you have no way to erase it to trigger the phoenixcard upgrade method)

                              PS check here also: http://linux-sunxi.org/Android/partitions

i have seen threads where they upload new kernels usinng dd command, yet i have never tried myselve..
