So if we want to lower or increase the strength of the wifi we must change the pa0maxpwr only or also the triso2g and swctrlmap_2g? pa0maxpwr seems to be some percentage of the wifi power. so if i just open the file and put this value in 80 (80%) and save the file without any other change am i ok?

    thank you.

      It requires a reboot.

no need for reflashing the rom? that's great.

UPDATE: it seems that it is more complicated than i thought because i tried to edit the file and i got an error that it can not been saved (obviously because it is used from the system)...

I downloaded the firmware yesterday. I might do a ROM today for the U8T. I'm debating.

As soon as I get boot screens from Tattman65, I will post the new U8T ROM. When I do, I will start a new thread and ask for further discussion of that tablet to move there.

This is gonna be REALLY confusing for some folks being able to know whether they have a U8 or a U8T.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PAY ATTENTION TO THIS, BECAUSE THE TWO ROM/TABLETS ARE DIFFERENT!!!!!!

U8 and U8T ARE NOT THE SAME!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've already been through this with Max's and Pro's for the M Series...and now there's a T at the end.

Oh, BTW....I've been testing a custom recovery for the U8 all day today.

It's still a little rough around the edges, but I'm happy to say that we FINALLY HAVE A WORKING CUSTOM RECOVERY for the U8!!!!!!!!!!

This is a customized version of TWRP instead of CWM. Thanks to Freaktab Member Abdul_Pt, who's been doing all of the development work.

I plan on adding this recovery in the preinstall folder on my next U8 ROM, but in the meantime, check out Abdul_Pt's TWRP thread for the release of TWRP for the U8:

The first release will be a beta. The reason is the screen doesn't update from the main menu, so you have to anticipate which button is on the next screen to press. Yeah, it's kind of a pain in the ass, but if you are a little patient, you can get all of the TWRP features to work. We hope to get a solution soon. The screen shot on the TWRP thread is a little different on the U8 because, like I said, it's in portrait. Abdul_Pt had to rearrange the screen.

The U8 is unique in that it defaults to portrait mode, and there aren't external volume keys to navigate, so you have to use the touch screen. CWM wouldn't work, so I'm switching to TWRP for this tablet...and maybe more in the future.

I have preached for months about using NTFS format on your external SD card, but you must use a FAT32 formatted card to be able to access it from TWRP. Also, I've found out that this KitKat ROM won't copy files to an NTFS formatted external SD. So for this ROM, I highly recommend that you go back to FAT32...it solves all of the problems. Just REMEMBER to be careful about removing the card with unmounting it to prevent corruption, which is very easy to do with the FAT32 file system. NTFS is much safer...but simply won't work on this U8 ROM.

                Enjoy!!!!!!!!!

Oh, I forgot to mention a couple of things.

The U8 version of TWRP will be posted by Abdul_Pt on his thread. Just wait for it. None of the generic versions will work, so don't bother with them...you NEED the U8 version.

Also, The Petrus Reboot app has some problems with the U8 that we are trying to work out. For now, don't use the app to reboot to recovery. Instead follow these instructions:

                  Open a terminal app

                  Type SU and enter.

                  Acknowledge root permissions in SuperSU.

                  Then type: Reboot Recovery

This will get you into TWRP on the next boot.

There is a reboot to system button in TWRP.

Petrus updated his Reboot app today...and it fixes the freezing problem on the U8. Just download app from the Reboot App thread.

This is such a cool ROM. Thank you.

Would you be able to make a variant without G-Apps?

I'm pretty busy right now trying to get TWRP working for this tablet...Abdul_Pt is doing a great job with it, and it's almost ready for release.

There are so many dependencies between g-apps, that would be very difficult...especially with KitKat.

I may be able to debloat some more on the next ROM.

I read about that too, but I turn off every Google thing I can find, including Google Play Store and Services, and everything still works great. One or two apps I had complained about location so I found alternatives that used AOSP APIs rather than Google's.

I use ADW so I don't know how the stock launcher deals with this set-up. I imagine it complains.

imho, g-apps aren't such problem. as rom is rooted, just freeze them, work with tablet few days, and if there is no problem, deinstall them. at least, i'm doing that way.

                              Multi-users

                              Hi Randy!
Do you plan to enable multi-user feature in your next Pipo U8 ROM?

KitKat is different in the way that feature is implemented. For the Jellybean ROM's, I just turned the feature on. I will need to do some more research in order to get that feature working.
